I wonder if you've tested trading iron butterfly's at the tested side of the ORB, since it seems to hover around there, multiple 0DTE areas to have it get under the umbrella?
Well I am working on that but it takes a little more time because I only trade my strategy. I am however, working with folks who use additional strats that work for them and putting those in video format. I cant deviate too far away from what I do though because thats what this community is all about. My way of trading and how I have made it work for me ya know? I am working it though!
Thank you Jimmy. Good explanation. I’m glad you made this video. I’ve seen other people using the first 3 or 5 minute candle as the ORB. This seems better to me
I dont trade the ORB strategy. I would tell you to back test any strategy and see if its more likely to win or lose with and without a retest. We are looking for probabilities as we cant see the future my friend.
Is there no Stoploss being used? neither breakeven positions? If there is no stoploss, how do you calculate your risk? It could be very small, when your EMA9 line is crossed by a small candle, but it could be huge with a long candle crossing that line!
Every trader should have a trade plan. Your trade plan should always include an entry, take profit and a stop loss. Each trader is responsible for their own risk management. I have found that folks tend to ignore what others may suggest and find out what works best for them through their own experiences. I appreciate your feedback my friend.
I really want to start using this strategy, but it looks like oftentimes the range isn't retested. In the second example here, it is was stated that the range was retested, but without any evidence - breaking out of range and retesting all within a 1 minute candle is what throws me off, here. Otherwise, splendid video
Its not a strat I personally trade. We have several folks in my group who do but they play a much shorter ORB. For example a 3 or 5 min orb. Many of them dont wait for the retest either.
It works anytime. However, you have to create a new ORB box each time you do it. Also, keep in mind that theta and many other factors later in the day will change how your options react.

Thanks for this simple and clear explanation of the Opening Range Breakout strategy! I will definitely try this in the coming week. Where did you get the 42 to 45 % success rate from? Do you think that adding a stop loss at the entry increases the profitability in the long run? Not sure if my question is clear... What I mean is a 40ish % success on a trade that has the potential to catch say a $1+ move with a stop loss at say 25 cents(*) could make this a relatively sure play in terms of consistency. Yea man. It’s pretty clear and easy. I made it because there seemed to be some confusion as to how it’s supposed to be played. There are variations of it obviously but this here is the main way.

I dont use it. There was some confusion between members in my community so I made this video to clear up the confusion. That said, I have a guy in our room that plays the ORB almost daily and his win rate on it is very high. The percentages I got were from the internet search I did to find the win rate. Not something I tested myself.
Can you define what "breakout" , "retest" and "stay above"? It could really mean different to different people. Example...some may consider it as just price going to a certain level. Some may consider price closing above/below a certain level. This could be in different time frame. Depending on what the definitions are the result could be substantially different.
The rules for this strategy are very simple and defined as far as entry goes. The process is the same for any time frame. You let your ticker do what its going to do for the first 30 mins. You plot a line at HOD and LOD. Look for a bias within that time frame. Do the ticker navigate towards the support or the resistance? If towards resistance (HOD) and it break that line then you wait for a retest of that level. If you fall back into the opening range on the retest, then we dont take the trade.
That 2nd entry does not look like an entry at all. No close above the range, no pullback or even bearish candle… I’m confused why you’d have entered there in the live market?
Im going to need you to elaborate here for me. Are you referring to 6:57 in the video? If thats the case we did close above the range, we wicked down and tested the resistance we had just closed above turning it into support and went north from there. Its also worth noting that I dont trade this strategy anymore and when I was it was very rare because the win rate was nowhere near good enough for me. I made the video because there was confusion amongst folks in our community so I tried to help.
