    What is the most convincing way to prove "heat seeks cold"? I've always had a problem with understanding this.

    • @danp129
      @danp129 6 лет назад

      Thanks for trying, I still don't have a clear observable way to understand "heat seeks cold". Air colder than 32 degrees F freezes water. An hot stove may burn me, I don't know how the burner feels, only how I feel. I don't want my finger to touch a hot stove nor a liquified gases.
      I totally understand different temperatures seeking equilibrium through convection and conduction, and that heat also radiates, and higher heat will produce more radiant heat than cooler heat. I just haven't seen an exercise of "heat seeking cold" that cannot adequately be explained by different temperatures simply seeking equilibrium through convection or conduction or the fact that something is warming up because it is absorbing radiant heat.
      For the most part, my current understanding hasn't really hindered me from understanding how HVAC carries heat from one place to another, I just haven't seen a great example of "heat seeks cold", hence my post.

      I've done more research on this and understand the flow of heat is from hot to cold now. However I still get hung up when people say the CAUSE of heat transfer is BECAUSE "heat seeks cold" in many scenarios.
      Watch 2:30 to 2:54... He said this transfer of heat from the cold outdoor air to the colder heat pump coil worked "BECAUSE hot goes to cold". Now, does a heat pump really work primarily BECAUSE "heat goes to cold" or is it really working primarily because of convection of air movement causing the outdoor air to flow across the coils and the conduction conduction through the aluminum fins to the copper/aluminum tubing and finally to the refrigerant. In the scenario in the clip I pointed out, it's much easier for me to simple understand that different temperatures want equilibrium and to understand that convection and conduction were vastly more important than the direction heat flows.
      P.S. your analogy was pretty good.

    There is a very distracting noise in this video I don’t know if it’s the audio itself or a throat clearing noise but it makes it difficult to listen to especially with headphones on. I’m sure the information is pertinent but I’m going to have to find another one to watch that noise really takes away from the information being relayed.

    Light a match and hold it near the floor by an open door and tell me no cold air comes in. thermodynamics, hot air rushes out the top, and cold air enters through the bottom.

    I like the fact that you mention heat moves in "all three ways"... its almost never one method of transfer.
    That said, even though fluids (say water) heat will circulate in convection currents... isnt a tiny portion radiated within the fluid... ie from a molecule at top of the container radiated through to bottom.
    Best regards. thx for insight!

    this manual J is full of crap. manual j said my home needed a 1.5 ton. the system does not keep up with the home nor am i able adjust my temp throught the day. full of crap that causes your energy bill to skyrocket

      It's possible that a Manual D was not done which calculates the necessary duct work needed in your home. Both a Manual J and D need to be done in order to get your AC system working optimally. Of course, it's quite possible the person who did the Manual J did it incorrectly too.
