Steve Walsh, Lead Singer/Keyboardist for Kansas (Carry on Wayward Son, Dust in the Wind, Point of Know Return, People of the Southward, Cheyenne Anthem, etc), is a Native American (Adopted) but he doesn't make that known, like the gentleman in the Trailer says. Walsh is probably the most famous Native American Rocker in the World.
I knew that jesse ed davis was an native.... He played on the Bangladesh album set with George Harrison.. eric clapton...leon russell. ..ringo star..bob dylan. ..billy preston.. . The list goes on.
I think one reason there hasn't been a larger presence of Native Americans in mainstream music is because there hasn't been a Native American rooted music style that they were able to commercialize.
What about Redbone the first native rock band.they had several hit songs Kashtin songs entirely in Innu. They come from Labrador canada.songs more beautiful than most of the crap on modern radio or oldies stations.
@@CrowdPleeza Pat Vegas is still alive. Buffy is 82. Both acts were banned in 1973 . Redbone was banned for singing about wounded knee and Buffy banned for her involvement in the Alcatraz prison riot. I don't know if they liked her. You would think they would be on the same bill for concerts from time to time. If Buffy actually believed she was from Canada, then why did she stay in the United States when she was banned. She is either stupid or playing stupid. Time will close the story. Geoff Leo who broke the Buffy story has suddenly stopped talking about it. He works for the Canadian broadcasting company someone it seems has told him to shut up. The core of Buffy scheme was saying she was an orphan. In Canada up until recently only orphans or foster children were given acceptance by white society. The real truth will probably never be told. Like much of American Indian history.
@@allanwesaquate When you say that Buffy was banned are you talking more musically or professionally as an entertainer? I think her blacklisting was likely over by 1974 the year Nixon resigned. In 1975 she started appearing on Sesame Street which lasted for about six years.
If you listen to the intro of "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath, there's a direct "link" back to "Rumble" by Link Wray with the drum pattern working with the guitar chords. You know Tony Iommi was listening intently to Link Wray

I'm very curious as to why this otherwise very interesting, and good documentary, conveniently, happen to leave out, the proclaimed "king of Rock&Roll🗣🎶🎸"mostly by whites", the late Elvis Presley!🕺🎸 Elvis Presley also had Native American/ Cherokee blood from his Mother!🌹
Jesse Ed Davis' slide playing on Taj Mahal's version of Statesboro Blues was the inspiration for Duane Allman to learn how to play slide
This is a GREAT documentary 🤘
Native Brothers ROCK!!!

I wonder what the Redbone band members think of the Buffy Sainte Marie situation? I'm assuming they have met her before.

The lord Bless his soul! Long love Rock
Been sitting here listening to The Hu... totally in love with Mongolian rock! Now I'm sitting here going "Where the hell is my Native rock???"
Watch this my people.
My two favorite are part Cherokee, stevie ray Vaughn and hendrix.
Redbone!
Hendrix the greatest six string warrior
Considering the recent controversy about her ancestry, where does Buffy Sainte Marie fit into all of this now?
Howlin Wolf was a Choctaw----COOOOOOOOL!😎
He was more Black though. Most Black Amwricans have Native American ancestry. What's your point?

It's interesting to note that almost every person who's family has been two generations or more is on some level of native American heritage.
Buffy saint Marie ain't Native
No Stevie Ray Vaughn , as a native, that is a travesty
Also Elvis Presley! The proclaimed King of rock&roll, by whites, was part Cherokee, from his Mother's heritage!
