The original Might & Magic from the late 80s is one of my formative gaming memories. Spending the night at my friend's house that had a PC, drinking Cokes, eating Doritos, and playing Might & Magic until we couldn't keep our eyes open any more. Then waking up at 11, grabbing a donut and digging back in until his parents sent me home.
I've grabbed this one and can't wait to see what it has in store for the nostalgic part of my brain.

Don't want to be that guy but.. Heroes of Might & Magic(similar to this game) and Might & Magic(old fantasy 3D game) is different games. But both series was awesome back in the days.

I'm so pleased to know the HOMM spirit is still alive. This game seems to understand it better than any of the other knock-offs I've seen. I must give it a try!

@@benq994 Make sure to ask the developers for larger battle maps and multiple AI personalities. Those are very important.
exactly. It was always weird to me, that there was nothing like HOMM3 despite the decade long efforts to copy its spirits. If You search for "games like HOMM" You will get games with just a slight visual similarity, completely different in gameplay.

I STILL have HOM&M 3 complete on my pc all these years later. So this game looks AWESOME to me
This game definitely pays homage to H3 better than Heroes 5. Heroes 5 has not much to do with H3.
@@benq994 .maybe one day we will get the unit and skill variety of 5 but with the graphics and world of 3
I play it every year at least a little. Great game, always been one of my favorites, and right along with EQ/DAoC, I always end up going back for a bit to play, because it was truly a great game, as were they.
@@thefool8224 Only if it gets sold off; the current owners seem to give no cares outside of trying to line their pockets with nostalgia money, IMO. But here's hoping it happens, I love the franchise.
If nothing else, perhaps this game will grow into a new franchise, to carry the torch onward.
Why am I even watching this? I don't even play RPG's. Damn you Splatty for being so good at what you do, damn you. But like... don't stop.
God this one if going to be a banger. The HOMM3 roots are strong, but they've still made something unique.
And it doesnt require a proper GPU! So even my dad's laptop will run it. However it may not run well on old CPU's at least for now.
May I just ask, I hope y'all answer. Is this a continuation of HOMM or something? I am a very big fan of any turn-based games (RPG or strategy), and this caught my attention. I am planning to buy it but I have ZERO idea about HOMM. Upon searching, it was a classic game that resembled this. So, should I play the HOMM series first to fully appreciate Songs of Conquest, or it's just the gameplay / game style that is the same?
@@kapitantiago2805 You definitely can try HOMM3 but this game is not related to it. However it's has HOMM spirit. Another great game inspired by Heroes is King's bounty: the legend (but it plays differently as in Heroes3 you had multiple heroes and Cities in separate maps in KB you have 1 hero and a big world to explore).
@@benq994 Okay thank you dude, got you. Since it's not related to HOMM, Imma skip that series I think. I could go back there (and with your suggestion King's Bounty) if I really fell in love with Songs of Conquest, to play same type of games. I hope I could enjoy Songs of Conquest even though I'm busy, lol. Imma chill a lil bit and wait for sale.

The MOMENT Splat went from the campaign screen to the in game cutscene I was sold on the pixel art. I think I've bought every purchasable game Splat has showcase in the last five videos, lol.

Thank you for introducing me to this game Splatter Cat. As a long time player and lover of HOMM3, and Age of Wonders, this Songs of Conquest is now definitely on my must have list. It was good to see in your video that the AI is pesky and persistent. Was hoping the game would be a challenge and I see it might be.
"Might & Magic" and "Heroes of Might & Magic" are two different series of games.
Interconnected by the setting/lore but different genres.
Ya this is HOMM, Might and Magic was amazing back in the day. That and Wizardry were just off the chain....

You are legit GOATed, Splat. Just came across this game and was thinking about doing some research. Figured I'd check your channel first and sure enough there you are, already having a video on it live. You are absolutely on point.
I am impressed on how he read the dialogues, using the same meaning and words, but in a slightly different order (27:20). I try this sometimes when reading to my kids, but not to this extent.
I gotta say, most games you show here are awesome and i've played quite a few of them! But this game, as an avid fan of the old might n magic franchise, I must admit that this one brings the banner forward very well. Thanks for the videos and keep up the goodwork!

This looks not only like a brilliant homage, it's also a pretty good game of its own. Took all the charm and lessons from the past to combine with the modern possibilities and even more care to detail for a satisfying experience. Story and writing are very much on point too.

As a hardcore fan of Armored Princess, this game really caught my eye. Somewhat disappointed with new KB recently.

Awesome visuals, great mix of retro aesthetics with high-fidelity graphics. Well designed game overall.

Bought this one based on Seth's review. Its pretty damn good....the pixel art is wonderful and I feel that supporting the dev's by purchasing this produce is a good use of my money. FInished the first mission last night & the game seems to tic all the boxes. Did I mention the pixel art alone is kinda worth the price of admission?
Looks like a great game! Looks super fun. I like how the enemy commander roams the map doing the same types of things you do. I've always liked that idea in games. Makes the ai seem alive and more like a legit enemy. Stuff like that makes a huge difference in the immersion level of a game for me. So it adds another level of challenge. You've gotta be more fruitful in your adventures to make sure you can defeat the enemy that has the same resources as you. Pretty cool idea and instantly makes the game much more appealing than it would be if that feature didn't exist. Thanks for sharing this game Splatter!
BTW - I've been binging your content lately. I've probably watched at least 50-60 of your videos in the last few days. I started at the top of the list and I'm working my way down. There's been lots of good ones along the way. Your content is great man keep it up! 🤘🏻
Visually its closer to Heroes of Might and Magic 2, which is great, because that was a beautiful game (in most places)

The indie devs have been releasing some goodies the last few years. I'll keep my eyes on this one.
Will grab this on a sale when it is further in early access. 30€ for the content it delivers is still a little bit steep in my opinion when you do not see it through nostalgia glasses.
Agreed. I was surprised it was being pushed in Steam and GOG stores when it's still early access. Wishlist though because I want to get it eventually.

I remember playing a free game like this one, with RPG-y elements, turn based, and i've never found it again.
Edit: the graphics where similar, less animated, and it didn't have the same combat, Just simple "units collide" in the map screen... i think

Age of wonders games are the pinnacle currently. I'm a bit disappointed he hasn't mentioned them.
The Pixel Art looks beautiful, some of the best I've seen. Glad to see that characters on the map don't have giant heads, thats a personal pet peeve of mine I see a lot (mostly in anime titles). One criticism I have is the context-info dump through dialogue right at the start of the campaign, my eyes quickly glazed over and I lost interest. It's just a very self-indulgent form of storytelling by the writers, who obviously love their story and the world they created and want to share it all with the players, but it's just not the best strategy if you want to engage people. The show don't tell-too-much method is my preference, and a much more accessible and engaging form of storytelling. But damn that pixel art!
I know what you mean but I grew up playing text games so this is not that bad. I'm the guy that reads every single book I find in my rpg's.

battle map: 9x13 HOMM III alright if I recall correctly, but with elevation NEAT
ressources: gold + 5 different ones (not enough for my taste hehe), at least still more than HOMM VI
Town Menu: sadly no own screen + music oh well :S
i like the attention to differentiate ranged and melee stats
seems tehre is no waiting in battle but therefore there are opportunity attacks and archers can move n shoot like HOMM V Centaurs

I'm not really into the might and magic style so I might be wrong, but isn't the 2nd character used specifically for resource gathering? Doubling your move points so to speak?
Resource gathering, capping free points, and troop ferrying. Yeah, you have the right of it.

Needs a random map generator. Both HoMM3 and Age of Wonders games have this--it's sort of expected in games of this type by now.
You know you can put defender inside the cities right? That is also the garrison that guard towers increase.
