Covering up is a much-overlooked tip, thanks for mentioning it. Loose, light-colored linen trousers and shirt are actually much cooler than, say short-shorts and a bra top, they keep the body from absorbing the sun’s heat. As a geologist who has worked many long days in every weather extreme, I can vouch for this. Covering up helps eliminate that shivery, feverish feeling one gets in the evening after a day of sun exposure on the bare skin.
Yeah I hate that when you think you’ve bought a breathable fabric then realise the lining is synthetic - so annoying especially when you’ve paid the price for the natural material. Excellent tips Emma xx
I'd say generally I avoid synthetics as they tend to not feel as nice as natural fibres (in many ways) , and then of course there is the environmental impact too. However I did wonder if there are any manufacturers using the sort of sweat wicking fabrics used in sports clothing, as these are way more comfortable than standard synthetics?
Thank you for the tips! Natural fibers for me all seasons (as much as I can). I've learned over the years that I wear them the most without even thinking because they are comfortable. The ones I end up purging are usually the synthetics. I am certainly more mindful when I buy - checking labels for material content is a must now :)
Thank you for giving me permission to ditch the bra! I too am an A/AA and have always gone bra-less in really hot weather - one of the few advantages of having dainty boobs. The only reason I wear a bra is to give me some shape, but when it’s boiling I cease to care 😂 Love all your videos.
Black does hide sweat stains, though ;) A few weeks ago I scored an oversized men's black linen button down at the thrift store and it has been an absolute wardrobe workhorse since!
I really love the cellulosic-fiber fabrics, in other words, the rayon/viscose/lyocell family. Cotton knit t-shirts, even, are too hot for where I live, but a thin, viscose one is perfect. I know these are man-made, but from breathable plant fibers, not plastics/synthetics. It’s surprising how many people think rayon is a synthetic, I suppose because it ends in -on, like nylon, which is synthetic.
My daughter wore new sandals to town and they were rubbing badly so I swapped her for my sandals then we both had blisters when we got home😂kind regards from Georgina.
It’s almost impossible to find blazers lined in anything other than polyester these days, in my youth rayon was standard, it was great, or even silk in the better brands, which was extra-wonderful. One reason I really wanted your blazer from The Curated, Emma, was the silk lining. Unfortunately, the wide, 5” shoulder seam just won’t work on me, a petite-framed woman. I hope you will add a petite option next time, I can’t wear more than a 4” shoulder seam, thanks.
Oooh I hate hot weather and I’m Italian! I know, I was born in the wrong country 🤪 I’ve been wearing skirts, flowy dresses and sandals since mid May!! 👡 👗 👒
I live in the heat (Barbados in summer 30 degrees 80+ humidity) linen isn’t always practical for professional dressing. I look for fabrics that have a crepe feel (a dry hand) - so look for descriptions that say ‘crepe’
Great advice as always Emma! As someone who struggles in the heat I totally understand what you are saying!. Looser clothing and natural fibres all the way ❤️❤️❤️
Hey emma lovely and helpful tips I really admire you in every course of style. You are the most sophisticated stylist I have ever come across. Love from India 🇮🇳
I love that you mention the tip no3 which is cover up coz so many people have it backwards. I wear hijab and sometimes I will be standing there in the sun and see people looking at me in a short polyester dress with their arms exposed thinking, " how can she withstand this heat". I always wear natural fibers head to toe including my underwear and the only parts of me that over heat are those exposed to the sun usually my hands and face when am not wearing a hat. Granted I may be cooler if i was naked in a shaded place with cool air blowing, but that's usually not the case out and about in summer is it.
I have started to use compeed’s blister stick and does a great job, removing the friction pain at the back of my heels. Especially with shoes I have broken in, but not worn for a while.
Hi Emma. The tips you gave for coping in hot weather are spot on ! Here in Greece we have become experts in the art of keeping cool and as the heat in the U.K. often brings humidity with it too, it’s even mor essential to feel comfortable on those sunny days. Here’s sending you some sunshine your way ! 💖🌞🌞
Emma, you are so funny!😂 Thanks for the great tips. I remember when I could spend the summer braless😂 unfortunately now I’m 50, my boobs are slightly going south! Love these tips as usual. I love your style! 💕
Here in Australia, wearing black during summer is just a hard *no* 😂 (unless your work uniform is black in which case you have the right to hate your company a little more in summer). Honestly, black very quickly turns to a weird grey due to the severe sun exposure and then there's the added bonus of feeling like you're losing the last bit of hydration your body is holding onto as it's sucked right out of you via the black clothing. 😩🥵
Great tips. I live in Canada. I get nervous when I hear the temperature is getting close to 20 degrees Celsius. So far summer has not arrived yet. I have to add that I do not like silk during the summer. That is so true about the lining being polyester in cotton and linen pants and jackets. Why would manufacturers do that??? Great video.
Thanks for this Emma. I always find summer dressing difficult until I followed your advice and bought a linen shirt and trousers, which subsequently transformed my views!!! 👌😎
I've also got small boobs but I can't stand going without a sports bra or something, even if I'm wearing something oversized. I mean... it shows and I don't want anyone to see! How do you people do it?!
I am in the middle of Germany and the weather is just always exactly the same as in your place! Since there is RUclips and you can sort of compare really directly, in terms of weather it is as if I lived next door to you .. Hello from Münster! 🌸🌼🌸
Hi Emma from NYC…new to your channel and just loving it. What do you do with all your fall/winter coats, sweaters etc during the summer. Do you pack them away? Also, have any wallet suggestions? Thanks for the summer tips!!
Yes, at the end of each season I switch over anything that I won't wear in the next (so spring/summer I put away coats and big jumpers and autumn/winter I put away dresses and summery tops) and they go into storage tubs in the loft 👍
Precious tips I appreciate it although I know them. I live in Cyprus and here is too hot in summer so we have to find ways to make our living in the heat more bearable. Have a great summer!!
Thanks for the tips, Emma! Besos from a sunny, hot Valencia🔥 We look forward to receiving English tourists this summer😎 Fingers crossed you can travel to Spain. Besos💋
I loves how you explained the importance of wearing natural fabrics. They just make beingbout and about so much more bareable. And for some reason only one of my feet swell in the summe. I think its because of when I used to work in retail, being on my feet all day. I much prefer autumn out of all the seasons.
I hate hot weather! I leave in Greece and we have a lot... though we had a week of continuous rain as well. I prefer the weather in England! I have visited England as a tourist and leaved as a student too and the weather is way better compared to Greece! And of course I prefer dressing for autumn weather! I mean you can do more and add layers! I love England in general, not only in terms of weather!!!Anyway sorry for the long comment and continuous babbling! Love and greetings from Greece!!
Hi Emma you look beautiful as usual. It is so hard to find all cotton, because price in US is so high..but I sure strive to wear those all natural materials…great video. I am a d…wish I was smaller..sweaty boobs no 🤩 fun.
It’s so hard to find really comfortable underwear, I’m 61 and at 36E. At home I go Commando all the way! If anyone is coming over, I get those undies and bras on first! For leaving the house, of course, undies are essential.
I'm an E cup and it can be a pain in the ass. Unless it's a dress or a top that naturally gives more support, the sweaty boobs are unavoidable even in non padded bras
The Inuit also wear loose layers to utilise air for warmth. Deepest sympathy with the rings - it gets worse with age, I’m afraid. PS Jolly cold in north Essex.
Oh yes! Very timely vid! This coming week, we're going to get close to 30c (close to the waterfront) or higher (inland). Thank goodness for WFH, I'm going to be hanging out in my skimpiest whilst emailing lol On the subject of wearing black in the summer heat: I read a long while back that black material is actually awesome at radiating heat? So it obviously absorbs more than white or light colours, but then it's better at radiating it back out? At least I tell myself that's what's happening, as I swan about in my black dresses. Maybe feeling pulled together in a "one and done" black summer dress is giving me that mental cooling effect lol
Hello Emma, I love your videos. I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and have been binge watching since🤣You’ve inspired me to completely change my wardrobe and look for my own style. Is there a way to ask you a question via email? Thank you for all the inspiration and valuable tips. Great job!
But acetate is also made of cellulose just like viscose and lyocell and it's a type of rayon so I wouldn't say to avoid it. It's a much better option for lining in blazers than polyester 😜
😆😆🤣 I love you Emma Hill. The "Huuuuuuugh" at the 3.33'' is just ... awesome. So cool video. You did catch every single aspect of hot weather problems with clothing. Thank you from a Belgium's fan! 😊🥰
I'm in Salt Lake City Utah, US and can't remember the last time I saw rain. Soon I won't be able to remember the last time the high was under 95F. At least it's dry heat
Queen of fabric knowledge strikes again! This video made me lol so much, dear god how I wish I could ditch bras, but having a bigger bust it’s just a hard no 😩. Padding is the enemy, don’t want any more bulk there than possible. I’m right with you on the cotton pants/gusset situation 😂. V important!! I find too my feet and fingers swell up in the heat, tbh there’s not that many upsides is there??!! Bring on the sweat 😅🤣
hey Emma, very nice video. thank you so much. I would like to ask you about your green sandals on one of the pictures you showed in the video. could you tell us where the shoes (like birkenstock style) are from or post the link of them please. and also the anklet you are wearing on the same picture. thank you so much. kind regards

The sticky underboob struggle is real. It's difficult to find cotton bras in large cup sizes. Thanks for being inclusive, as always. 😘
Roll on deodorant works a treat ☺️

So true! I love viscose personally, very breathable, light and soft ☺️
Viscose makes me have BO but im intolerant to nylon so
I wish i lived in a country with 27C. Unfortunately in Greece we experience 35 or even 40 C which Is untolerable. Excellent video!!

Silk is my favorite fabric for hot weather. Since I live in a hot and humid climate, I find that silk works well and looks even better.

Good tips! I live in southern USA. 29°C-35°C July-August. Absolutely disgusting. Would love 27°C for July-August. Not typical

Have you tried a camisole tops with bra (they call bra-camisole )from UNIQLO ? there is so many options and good quality 👍🏻
I haven't personally as I am happy with just a vest and no bra. 👍

Great tips I would never think about bras and panties...
Also watching on a rainy morning Emma . But as a hay fever sufferer it is also a blessing and a better night's sleep I can open my window x

The problem is that most items that I have seen at regular high street retailers have synthetic lining in their garments.
🤣🤣🤣 do nir wear new shoes during the heat wave... Looking at my poor feet oblitirated by new sandals at +33C

Lots of rain here in Cheltenham, looking forward to the sunshine coming back 🌞
Get rid of wired bras too makes such a big difference in super hot weather
Also loved that black and whit gingham dress. I might have to try and make that!
🖤 black clothing lovers unite
Reviewing for this summer
Here in Italy today is 37. I think I could die 😭. Linen can't save me
🥵
I especially agree with the tip about not wearing padded bras in the heat. Yucky YUCK YUCK!!! 🌺. Thanks for the video. 😊

I dream of being able to not wear a bra. It makes dressing - but particularly summer dressing - so much harder and uncomfortable.
I’m on vacation in Florida and packed completely wrong. I needed this video!
Hope your having a great time though ❤️
Brilliant video Emma, really enjoyed watching it! 👏🏻❤
these are the best tips! I never considered ditching a bra but its really clever! Thank you.
Great tips and definitely needed! Your hair is looking AMAZING!! xx
👍
Your skin looks amazing makeup gorgeous could you show us what you use to achieve this please
Rayon or Bemberg lining are made from cellulose. Both breath more than a poly lining.
