I was leaning more toward Nathan, but at the end of the season, I didn't really care which one she picked as long as she picked one of them! I was just tired of the triangle lasting three seasons. Now everyone can finally move on. I'm just sad that her choice has angered so many fans. I wasn't surprised to see who she picked after watching the preview for the finale. The way the preview was cut with certain characters on screen while Rosemary was talking about some people being around for a season and some for a lifetime, I just knew in my gut that was a red herring.
On to the other relationships. I was so happy to see that Henry and Abigail have been writing to each other. I've wanted them to get together for a while now. Lee and Rosemary are always wonderful. I like the idea of Mike and Fiona possibly starting as friends and moving on to a romantic relationship, but I'm also okay if they just remain friends. I think Mike has feelings for her, but I'm not sure she'll return them. Florence and Ned are really cute together. I'm also on the fence about Molly and Bill. Rachel and Christopher were pretty baffling, and I'm glad they didn't stick around in town for a long time (sorry). I've never really liked Clara and Jesse, so I'm not very invested in their storyline. The Canfields are a nice new addition. I really like Minnie as the new voice of reason. I hadn't noticed that she seemed to be taking on Abigail's role until you pointed it out. Allie and Robert are cute, but I'm not sure the writers will spend the energy on keeping up with their budding relationship. I can only think of one other schoolyard romance (with Emily's brother, Gabe) they've had on the show and it lasted a few episodes.
As for Faith and Carter, I have no idea where that relationship is going. They seemed so hot and cold all season. One episode, Faith is telling Carson he can't miss his opportunity, but he wants to stay with her instead. The next episode, he tells her he's leaving and she gets mad because he's going? Lady, you literally just told him to leave! Then the whole thing with the ring was weird. I don't know. I've never really liked them together. I've always felt that they were only dating because their proximity while working together kept them close. Now, with Carson gone, I wouldn't be surprised if Faith moves on. I didn't even remember the thing about Faith needing to work under a qualified doctor for two years before becoming a doctor herself. I won't be surprised if it's never brought up again.
Also, the only thing in the season that really made me mad was when Elizabeth and Rosemary were fighting. I love their friendship and it was so tough to see them not talking to each other. I'm glad it didn't last long.
Sorry for the novel in your comments. I guess I just had a lot to say.

Great video and analysis! I never doubted that Lucas would be Elizabeth's choice after the "Unconditional Love" scene in Season 7, Episode 4. The writers conveyed what Lucas believed Elizabeth deserved: to be loved unconditionally. Given that he was already in love with her, it was implied that this is what HE wanted to give her if they ended up together. Then we had the Union City trip, where there was so much foreshadowing about waiting and being patient (a theme that comes back in Season 8.)
I think Season 8 was pretty much about Lucas and Elizabeth's journey to finding each other. When Lucas set Elizabeth free, it felt like the typical Hallmark trope where the endgame couple has angst before the resolution. So glad Elizabeth chose the right guy for her! This is a love story I'm going to enjoy seeing play out.

I was noticing a lot of anti Lucas commenters are hung up on the fact that he seemed shady at the get go. They forget about the real reason he was keeping secrets was for a noble cause. Hence we are left with the fact that he has the vice of gambling as his only downfall. Apparently he must be keeping it in check because he isn’t broke. (I don’t condone gambling). But my main point is that when Rosemary first came to the show how did we feel about her? And now look at her she’s half of one of the best couples on the show and has changed from the jealous and vane woman she was to a true friend and a loving wife and an overall good neighbor. Of course this may be because Elizabeth’s other best friend got cancelled but either way she is not who she was on the first season. Completely different lady where it counts (how she cares about other people now). Could it be the same with Lucas? Only he just seemed shady because of a misunderstanding. But he always cared about people.

I loved your analysis. I couldn’t agree more. I have been a fan of Lucas since season 6. I liked Nathan, but always found him secretive. And we found out why this year. I’ve heard all the comments that Elizabeth has to be with a Mountie because of the original books. But in the book Jack didn’t die. So that premise died with him. I agree with you that having Elizabeth and Lucas together allows Elizabeth to experience a more mature romantic relationship. She was so naive when she married Jack. I’m so looking forward to seeing their romance grow in Season 9. I’m also hoping for some funny scenes of Lucas and little Jack. Lucas was so good with Allie. I think he’s going to be a great father.

I love Lucas and the fact that they end up together..but I have a question...Why did they do the whole hand holding thing? They spent so many episodes focussing on her overcoming being able to first hold hands with Lucas first in private then in public. Only to have her pick Nathans hands in that game? Why would they do that? Just wondering if you have thoughts on that. I can see why Nathan fans were frustrated by that. That and the whole "Love is worth fighting for theme" I didnt get that.
Also I do think the writers couls have done better making the conversations between Lucas and Elizabeth a bit deeper amd more meaningful during their courtship. Would have made the ending make more sense.

The fact that L and E have not had ONE SINGLE DEEP CONVERSATION worries me...A true love will have at least a few conversations before you choose that person to be a suitor..There is NO chemistry among E and L, none..N and E had those deep conversations. You can't date someone for a whole year and don't talk about things like LJ,your dreams, your hopes, your hurts, etc. etc..E still doesn't know anything about L father or his pass. She also doesn't know about L hiring Henry son to spy on him and the fact that WCTH writers decided to turn L into N2.0 should concern everyone. If they thought E and L were so right for each other, why change L??? Also, according to KM, the decision to whom E chose did not come until late in season 8. Go back and watch his interview, EK also said the same thing..So for all of you that keep stating, "I never doubted it would be L and E" you are soooooooo wrong. The script was flipped for the "bait and switch" hook, line, and sinker.

I completely agree! I also was resigned to her choosing Nathan but really like Lucas for the same reasons you did. Nathan couldn’t seem to see past his own desire, even after she said no and was actually dating Lucas. Although she was sending mixed signals she had made her choice and he didn’t respect it. That bothered me. Even after Lucas told him to do what is best for Elizabeth and Ally and not just himself. He is a good guy but it seemed his masculine pride and ego got the best of him..

For those thinking that Lucas could not be a good father figure for Jack, think how good he was with Allie more than one time. Yes! Like you, I think Lucas would be a great father. He was so good with Allie. And really, what a makes a great father is a man of character and good qualities. And he has that. Definitely Team Lucas. I thought all along Elizabeth was projecting the feeling she had for Jack toward Nathan. When she walked out of Lucas' office and fanned herself, it told exactly what she felt for Lucas. I think her continued attention to Nathan was pure guilt. If she had told Nathan that she was not IN love with him earlier in the triangle, he would have backed off. Ellie, you seem like such a lovely person! Your videos make me happy. The part about "Pintrist board quotes" in place of actually representing an authentic Christian character with real faith and priciples; Ellie, I love how you just described a thing in movies I have seen SO much. I wonder if it's a desire by movie makers to cash in on a demographic, but having limited understanding of said demographic and little interest in understanding them? Maybe an added desire to be PC makes such characters appear shallowly Christian-ish and inauthentic? I'm not sure why, but I have seen what you are talking about. I also love how you can express your love for something while at the same time being fully aware of its faults. I felt the same way about this story. (I haven't watched the series but read the books) I think for me the story did a good job tapping into human emotion and caused me to connect with the characters, but at the same time the history part of it was often all wrong. When I read the books, It felt like an alternate universe to me too.

Within "the Christian market" there such a wide range of beliefs and practices that the shallowness doesn't really surprise me; they're appealing to the lowest common denominator.

He didn't know her and only said he loved her yet never did anything to prove he loved her. I saw that she saw Jack in Nathan and a lot of times I thought she was going to call Nathan, Jack. Plus Nathan needed her whereas Lucas was always there for her. Nathan still doesn't know Elizabeth is rich too. Lucas was caring about everyone. He felt deeply for Henry and Christopher. I loved all the points you brought up 100%. I was team Nathan because I thought they were basing it loosely on the books and couldn’t see past that. If I take the books out of the picture it totally changes my perspective, however it was hard to get past how they portrayed Lucas in the beginning plus the fact that traditionally saloons and saloonkeepers are not usually considered “good characters” in these books. Also we never saw Lucas interacting with little Jack. So for those reasons I was convinced it was Nathan and I wasn’t sure if I was gonna be able to keep watching the show, but all your points have made me see things from a different perspective and I really appreciate that! I think having the show ride that “PC” line confuses the fans and writing a bit too, let the christians be christians and the others not be….we CAN get along despite what the media shows. It would be a good message.

I personally hated it and I also think that it might had been useful in the beginning but then they dragged it down so long that it got to a point where it was ridiculous. Another thing negative about that was the fact that people got too engaged in the matter to a point where they even had heated arguments. On the other hand, I don't like Lucas because I don't find chemistry at all between him and Elizabeth and for me that's a most, when they had their first kiss I just cringed. There's not passion in him, I find him too bland. Having said that, I think that if the writers had hinted at an early stage that it was him the one and had made a smoother transition I would have accepted the whole plot. But instead they played with our feelings, at the end the show bacame a soap opera. For me the show lost its essence in so many levels that I stopped watching. But that's just my opinion.

Like the fact that she picked Nathan's hands in a silly game didnt upset him or throw them off. Because they are adults they didnt take it as seriously as the fans took it. They knew it meant nothing in reality. I loved that Halmark kept it real like that. People complained that the kissing was too intense but there too I felt like she was a mariied woman and not the innocent Elizabeth who first kissed Jack. She showed very strong physical desire towrads Lucas a few times already so the kissing was intense bec they are both adults and its mot their first time around the block!

From the beginning, I thought they were setting it up for Nathan because of their type of conversations that seemed more emotionally connected, but I do like her with Lucas, too. I can see they make a great couple, but I feel like they needed to go deeper with Lucas emotionally. Most of the time, it has just been hearts and flowers concerning Lucas, and many times in Hallmark movies, they decide the down to earth kinda guy usually gets the girl, but I was surprised when they didn't take that typical path. She actually ends up with the guy who is showering her with flowers, fancy dinners, etc. Those things are definitely not bad of course, but on their channel many times they usually are saying romance is in the day to day and doesn't always have to be really expensive gifts. That is the only reason I was surprised because otherwise , yes, Lucas has been the one actually pursuing Elizabeth which shows true love. Of course, Nathan 's secret put the breaks on pursuing Elizabeth. Because of his secret, that automatically defines her choice of Lucas. Otherwise, we would still be waiting for her to make up her mind! The main thing was I feel that if they wanted the audience to really really want her to seem right with Lucas, they would have shown more moments where he was more vulnerable with her. And that she primarily wouldn't have been sidetracked by Nathan every time he came around. It makes her look very fickle and inconsistent with her emotions, but of course that is what they want to do. Make the audience wonder who will it be?:) I love this show! Been watching since the pilot.:) Have to say, it was a good kiss!:):):)

But love how you pointed out that Lucas was the mature, loving option and how hallmark set a good example by having Elizabeth pick him! Like I was SO surprised, but I was so happy they were going that direction rather than the dramatic, tumultuous (and in my opinion, sort of toxic) relationship she had with Nathan! This way they could write anything they wanted if they made the show about a granddaughter instead of the original character in the books. Michael Landon, Jr. probably got complaints because in his movies the Love Comes Softly series the movies were completely different than the books that Janette Oak wrote. This time he wanted to respect her When Calls the Heart books by pretty much just using the idea that a teacher is in love with a Mountie. Mind you, even though those those movies were different than the books, the movies are still amazing and beautiful. Technically, though I love both the books and the movies. I love each for they are.

It's sad that so many think Lucas cannot be a good father, especially since he'll be working with Elizabeth to raise little Jack. Yes, Nathan looks like he's a good father, but remember, he's had Allie since she was 4 yrs old. He's had 6 yrs to get where he is. Plus, because he's a Mountie, I'm sure he's had help along the way. Since he's been in HV, he's asked Elizabeth for advice & Opal's mother's to watch Allie when he's out of town. He's even told Elizabeth that he may need her help now that Allie's getting interested in boys.

Don’t get me wrong I like that women doing more in the modern world but they are changing history on the show. I wasn’t very fond of how defiant the women were this year. I wasn’t for Lucas because he was too suave, charming, perfect & polished, & that oftentimes is a red flag in real life. But if it’s just a story & he really is meant to be that way, good for her, he was the best pick. They even had the same refined tastes, & seemed to be from the same social class, which had been an obstacle for her & Jack. Now she was getting what was expected for her in that era & would make certain things easier. In that way they were more compatible than Nathan.
Nathan seemed more down to earth & real. But when Elizabeth said she had only been interested in him because he was a reminder of Jack (however she worded it), it was like she turned to the camera & told viewers that if they were pro Nathan it was because they missed Jack. That way they couldn’t be too mad that she chose Lucas.

I felt she should have ended up with Nathan. It felt like there was a long slow burn heading in that direction. This season seemed to ignore a lot of moments from seasons 6 and 7. Moments that quite a few people thought would be referenced when tying up this triangle. It's like they completely ignored most of the previous two seasons. You bring up this point when you talk about Faith and Carson. Season 8 had a lot of heartbreak for Nathan and his fans even before the final episode. The only logical explanation for dragging this character through all these fires, or so it seemed, was a beautiful love story at the end. One that resulted in a sweet family. I felt that while Elizabeth was dating Lucas, she was actually building a deeper relationship with Nathan. I saw the possibility of an epic love story. One with forgiveness, redemption, sweet and tender love but also immense passion. I felt like they understood one another and needed one another to continue their healing process. I wish the line about Elizabeth looking for Jack in Nathan was never used. Tell your mom I'm sorry and I don't hold it against her😉. That line upset me and a few others a lot. There was never any indication that this was happening. It was a bit of a slap in the face for the character of Nathan and his fans. Similarities to Elizabeth's relationship with Jack could be seen with both men. So that explanation didn't fly for me. Plus in my eyes, it made Elizabeth seem shallow. I was not happy with how the triangle was handled or resolved this season. Those of us hoping for Nathan kept having carrots dangled in front of us. Keeping that hope alive. Instead Elizabeth should have had her talk with Nathan a lot sooner and given us time to warm up to the idea of Lucas as her choice. It's possible that more fans would have been agreeable to the ending. As it stands now, the ending did not match the story that seemed to be unfolding for Nathan. At least in my opinion and it would seem, the opinions of quite a few others

@Maggie 💯💯💯💯 I agree with everything you said!
Also, this might be a slightly obscure point, but as a girl who comes from an incredibly long and strong line of military service (stretching back over 200 years- only about 1% of the US serves in the military, so I know most might not understand this point, but I am a proud military daughter and granddaughter and cousin and so on), I was so incredibly disappointed with how they treated Nathan’s service. The “looking for Jack” in Nathan just because he wears the same uniform- no, that’s not on, that’s not okay. It really felt like a slap in the face to those of us who love members of the armed forces (which can include the police), as if saying their jobs are too dangerous to ever take a chance on and to ever get to know the actual person behind the uniform. I’m completely team Nathan and am still not okay with how awful the show was to him. Lucas should not have been chosen. I’m having a hard time even contemplating watching the next season, as it has gone in a direction that really doesn’t mesh with seasons 1-7 at all. Where are the hard working women who got on with things in season 1? I feel like most of E’s choices in season 8 wouldn’t have been tolerated in season 1 and that is so sad that she was allowed to behave the way she did.

@@captainjaneway80 For all of the viewers that got their wish for Elizabeth to pick a gambler saloon owner , they should be elated because the writers and the producers made it to be that way ! To fill a void left by two giant characters , Jack passing and Abigail leaving town , they had to do something to keep the interest of the show favorable to the viewers and to keep the ratings from falling ! The team Gambler fans got caught up in a harlequin style romance novel approach rather than the concept that made WCTH such a wonderful.show ! They created a character that the promos depicted as having a mysterious past and quickly they have him become a love interest of Elizabeth ! They had the viewers anticipating a continue story of a Mountie and her but they purposely did not have Nathan to have any romantic opportunities to show her how much he cared for her ! Then To deliberately make a false scenario where it appeared that she had resorted back towards Nathan , they come up with an excuse that was so outlandish and this is why the many fans disagreed with their writing a gambler to win her heart ! Who creates a " one sided " triangle where only one man gets 100% of quality time , that makes no sense ! Then for all of the Team Gambler fans that only seed that he did this for her , he was patient , he thought of her more than himself , well duh ! It was written to be that way , but had they kept to the theme of Miss O's books , there would not have been a gambler saloon owner winning her heart ! They totally disappointed many long time loyal fans with taking as they said " the riskier of choices " ! To say so many unkind things towards the disgruntled fans is not warranted and the only reason they are doing so ugly , is the guy they wanted won ! To risk losing a great portion of fans just to create something to fill a missing void , yes that risk might come back to haunt them ! No show will survive with that many fans stop watching ! No true fans want that to happen but it comes along with taking risks ! Do the Team Nathan fans agree with the finale , absolutely not , but it's their show and they can do whatever they choose to do , regardless of how the fans like it or not ! Lukas, the businessman makes sense for the times. He is a money maker and able to provide. It didn't hurt that he is tall, handsome and mysterious!!!

@@EllieDashwood I hate the beard this season! He was so much hotter in season 6 and 7 with the scruff. I think they were trying to make him look older so she doesnt look older than him.

The optics didn't match the outcome. There was so much chemistry and history between Nathan and Elizabeth and I did not feel it was all about the Mountie factor. Lucas did do a better job of courting her. He was.more physically available but I felt Nathan was more emotionally honest and available. This choice made me care less about Elizabeth's character. I like Lucas but this decision made me very sad for Nathan and Allie.

The Fiona & Mike thing was odd. She was cool, confident, beautiful, & he was not at all compatible with her.
Faith & Carson had been such a good match, but then Faith suddenly became very unlikeable & confusing.

I am disappointed that Elizabeth chose Lucas knowing that he was s very sdcc shady character who did not become any better
There was intrigue attached to his activities. You could not trust him. It was fumb to choose him
Nathan has been noble and decent.

    • @EllieDashwood
      @EllieDashwood  3 года назад +12

It certainly appeared that way at first! But then there was the episode where it came out that the only reason Lucas appeared shady was because he was in hiding because he did the brave and noble thing of helping a widow being taken advantage of by criminals and now the criminals were after him for helping her.
