Chan Master Sheng Yen said that this is the mantra from the Thousand eyes thousand arms Great compassion Avalokiteshvara sutra. It's talking about the names of Avalokiteshvara (GuanYin) Bodhisattva and her merits, Before you chant Da Bei Zhou, you have to arise your great compassion (the wish to wish or safe all sentient beings from sufferings) towards all sentient beings. You've to have faith in this mantra. If you chant this mantra, recite continuously all your sins, karma will be purified. Your wishes will be fulfilled. If you wish to be a Buddha, you can be a Buddha. From the most basic vows or wishes to the ultimate Bodhi, enlightenment will be fulfilled. This mantra is very powerful. You don't have to understand the meaning but just the sound and chant it will be effective.

Its a Sanskrit. The original writing of the Mantra. In Tibetan language, Alovakiteshvara is called as Chenrig. However, the monks are mostly chant it in Sanskrit.
Hi, I am completely new to this mantra thing. So I have a few questions. What is the difference between Sanskrit and Tibetan? Different languages? Or Sanskrit is a language that were used for mantras back at the start/ or early spread of Buddhism? I noticed that in the song the mantra repeats 3 times. This confuses me in terms of what is considered to be a complete mantra. So is the repetition (3x) considered to be a complete mantra? Meaning, every time I chant I have to say it 3 times in order to say the whole mantra. Or is it that this mantra is short so the singer repeat the mantra 3 times just for the sake of making the song longer? Meaning, she could have sing it 4, 5 times or more in the song to make it longer if desire. I hope this make sense. It is kind of hard for me to address this question clearly. Hopefully a monk or someone who is an expert at Tibetan mantras can help answer my questions. Thank you for your help.
Most of the time, the mantras are written in the Pali language. Sanskrit is the way of writing, the Tibetan is the adjective used to describe the origin of one branch of Buddhism. A complete mantra is the mantra itself. For example the Heart Dharani Mantra or commonly known as the Great Compassion Mantra is a complete mantra; the repetition of the mantra, in full mala, is 108. But let me clarify: I am not a monk, neither I am an expert in Buddhism. Though I am learning. Om Metta!
The Great Compassion Mantra (Da Bei Zhou) Benefits in reciting and holding the Great Compassion Mantra (Da Bei Zhou / 大悲咒) Excerpts from The Dharani Sutra English translation by the Buddhist Text Translation Society, Dharma Realm Buddhist University, USA If humans and gods recite and hold the phrases of the Great Compassion Mantra, then when they approach the end of life, all the Buddhas of the ten directions will come to take them by the hand to rebirth in whatever Buddhaland they wish, according to their desire. Should any living beings who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion fall into the three evil paths, I vow not to realise the right enlightenment. Should any living being who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion not be reborn in any Buddhaland, I vow not to realise the right enlightenment. Should any living being who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion not obtain unlimited samadhis and eloquence, I vow not to realise the right enlightenment. Should any living being who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion not obtain the fruits of whatever is sought in this very life, then he cannot have been making proper use of the Dharani of the Great Compassion Heart. People and gods who recite and hold the Great Compassion Mantra will obtain fifteen kinds of good birth and will not suffer fifteen kinds of bad death.
General Translation: 1. Adoration the noble Avalokitesvara, bodhisattva, the great compassionate one. 2. Having paid adoration to One who Dispels all Fears, O noble Avalokitesvara, to You adoration, O Nilakantha. 3. I shall enunciate the 'heart' dharani which ensures all purposes, is pure and invincible for all beings, and which purifies the path of existence.

I have heard that whatever you hear stays in your mind for a year. Then why not hear music that inspires us to be closer to god.
Buddhism does not believe in a Creator God. This does not render it as incompatible with theistic belief. That depends on the person practicing.
