Connor Cummins lives on the island so he knows the circuit as well as you can. It takes years to learn the circuit and if you get it wrong, there's no second chances. These guys (and gals) are the best at what they do. You have to take you hat off to them as they are a truly dedicated bunch.
@@craftycodhead1 I'm relieved that Guy Martin stopped racing there. I love the man but he's too much of a daredevil to survive that place indefinitely. I enjoy the engineering and record breaking attempts he's been doing. The women & kid calmed him down a bit.
Michael Dunlop who is mentioned in the video comes from a big racing family and is the current rider with the most TT wins with 29 wins, overtaking his uncle Joey Dunlop this year who had 26 TT wins. Michael's Father (Robert Dunlop), uncle (Joey Dunlop) and brother (William Dunlop) all lost their lives to the sport. Joey was a member of the Armoy Armada, whose sole surviving member is Jim Dunlop, another of Michael's uncles. The other member of the Armada were Frank Kennedy and Joey's brother-in-law Mervin Robinson who both lost their lives at the North West 200 (a road race in Ireland) in consecutive years in the 1970's. Joey lost his life within a month after winning his 26th TT at a race in Tallinn in Estonia in 2000. Robert Dunlop crashed and died in the 2008 North West 200 in practice and 2 days later Michael won the race that his father was favourite to win. William Dunlop, Michael's brother, lost his live in another road race at Skerries in Ireland in 2018. So to go through all that heartbreak and tragedy and still want to race shows why he is such a respected and loved rider.
Fun fact for the Isle of Man TT… The front tyre of the motorcycle does around 2 miles less distance than the rear due to it being off the ground so often during this race.
When Connor flew off at the Veranda, he ended up in the hospital next to Guy Martin who clattered a wall and became a human fireball skidding along at over 140mph. Both survived and got back on the bikes as soon as they could.
Conner survived because he went down the hill. People think that it’s the speed that kills but it’s the sudden stop that kills because the body can’t take the amount of g force that occurs. Conner’s body going over the hill was allowed to decrease speed at its own pace. A large portion of the deaths are wall and fence related.
It really bugs the absolute shit out of me when the isle on man documentaries always bang on about the AVERAGE speed... And then never mention that the big bikes are topping out at over 200mph!
