Best Zoos to visit in the United States
From institutions on each coast … to facilities from the midwest to the southwest … Here are 12 of the best zoos to visit in the United States
#12 ZooTampa at Lowry Park
Located in Tampa Bay, Florida, this nonprofit zoo is recognized as a vital component of Florida’s wildlife and biodiversity. And it’s a popular destination as well. The park receives around a million visitors each year. More than 1,300 animals are displayed over some 65 acres (25 hectares). They include many zoo favorites like giraffes, hippos, and rhinos. Animals native to Florida like the Florida panther are featured, along with certain species of crocodiles and alligators. A lot of visitors think the primate section features some of the zoo’s best designs. Great apes like chimps and orangutans are featured in a running system of waterways that seem to connect each exhibit. Judging from the accolades, locals and tourists really like this zoo. In addition to other awards Parents Magazine named it the number-one family friendly zoo in the US!
#11 Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens
Opening in 1875, this is one of the oldest zoos in the US. It started off in the middle of Cincinnati with about 65 acres (27 hectares). It now sprawls into neighboring blocks with special reserves in the outer suburbs with more than 75 acres (30 hectares). In addition to containing 500 animals and 3,000 plant species, the zoo is respected for its breeding programs. It was the first institution to successfully breed California sea lions. It’s also one of the few zoos in North America that houses and breeds endangered Bonobos, also called pygmy chimpanzees. The Africa exhibit is the largest animal exhibit there and features white lions, a bat-eared fox, and cheetahs among other animals. A good way to get around is the Safari Train, which takes you past various habitats. If the temperature is below 50-degrees F (10 C) when you visit, you can participate in the Penguin Parade. Regularly ranked as one of the nation’s top zoos, this establishment did even better in 2019. Readers of USA Today named it the best zoo in North America!
#10 Lion Country Safari
If you’d rather see a variety of wild animals from the comfort of your car, then visit this operation.
Located across 600 acres (243 hectares) near West Palm Beach in Florida, it opened in 1967 and bills itself as a ‘cageless zoo’. Cageless or not, it is often cited as one of the country’s best zoos, period. Creatures from six continents can be seen, including zebras, rhinos, and of course lions. More than 1,000 animals are on display while taking the 4-mile drive (6.4 km). After finishing the tour, many visitors opt to see the adjacent theme park which features an amusement park, an animal theater, and a petting zoo. Although it’s called a ‘safari’, not all the animals are allowed to roam free. Lions and chimpanzees are kept behind barriers. But giraffes and zebras will often cross the road in front of vehicles. A reason for the segregation is because too many visitors ignored the warnings against opening their car doors and windows.
#9 Denver Zoo
According to our sources, this is the most popular paid attraction in the Denver metro area. Not surprising since it received more than 2 million visitors each year. It all started in 1896 with the donation of one orphaned American black bear. There was only a motley assortment of animals until 1918. But that’s when the Bear Mountain exhibit opened. It transformed the zoo into the first institution that featured naturalistic habitats that helped promote animal welfare. The attraction is still a favorite with visitors, as is Primate Panorama which covers some 7 acres (3 hectares) and features tree-dwelling apes and monkeys. Predator Ridge represents the African savannah and contains spotted hyenas and African wild dogs. The Toyota Elephant Passage houses Asian elephants, clouded leopards, and rhinos among other creatures. When it opened it was the world’s largest habitat for bull elephants. And The Edge is a newer exhibit modeled after Russian pine forests. That one offers you the chance to see Amur tigers from a viewing area as they roam across bridges overhead. Overall, the zoo contains some 3,500 animals across 550 species. - Животные
It’s nice to see the Henry Doorly Zoo get some love,
I’m happy to see the Henry doorly zoo as number one since we’re usually overshadowed by the San Diego zoo since it’s in California
yesss omaha gang
The Zoo is like the only attraction that we have but it’s absolutely the best 😂
Lmao facts
None of yall have anything on St Louis lol its the most stunning naturalistic zoo in the world 100% best enclosure design
@@fatnakedjimmyneutron I’m sure it’s beautiful ☺️
The Cincinnati Zoo is great, I'm glad it was on the list!
Ayeeeeee Omaha Nebraska that’s were I’m from
me toooo
I am sooo happy to see Zoo TAMPA made it to your list it is one of my favorite zoos in florida
It’s quite good. But I wouldn’t even say it’s a top 2 zoo in Florida.
I've always like going to Zoos which is how I've got into animals and it's good that we have these Zoos that helps with the conservation of endangered species and educating others (providing that they look after their animals well of course). I hope to visit these Zoos if I ever go to the United States. Europe have many good Zoos too including Chester Zoo and Loro Parque.
I love going to the Henry doorly zoo!
Love this channel
I live right between Cincinnati and Columbus, and we only go to Columbus zoo cuz it's such a fun place!
Of these, I've been to the zoos in Denver, St, Louis & San Diego. All three are great.
You showed a video of Dallas for the Ft worth zoo btw, lmaooo
You covered some of the largest and most popular zoos in the US - but there are a number of small(er) zoos (or more properly collections?) that are more than up to standard and very popular, scattered around the country, such as the zoo in Central Park, NY, the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, etc.
BTW - love this channel and look forward to each video! Thank you.
And elmwood park
I quite like Lincoln Park Zoo! It's awesome considering it's got free admission.
Toledo Zoo represent!
Growing up the Tampa Bay area, I remember the Lowry Park zoo.
I first visited Lowry Park in 2006 of my 6th year during Zooboo. Dad...He never passed up an opportunity to scare the hell outta me.
I live right next to it
The San Antonio zoo is awesome
I love the Henry dorly zoo my family get member passes every year and we are from ne usa
same best zoo in my opinon
Nice I saw this fast
Woodland Park zoo in Seattle WA is my local zoo and had maybe still has a section called northwest trail were the did the landscaping so well that wild bald eagles decided it was a perfect place to nest.
I live an hour from columbus zoo and about 2 hours from cincinatti zoo. I visit the columbus zoo almost every year. but i would like to visit the cincinati zoo one day
Sounds like the keyframe for the audio goes from 50% to 100% at the start of each zoo
You forgot to add that the STL zoo is free
I live in Ohio and I can say the columbus zoo is awesome!!
San Diego zoo is literally a very very great and big zoo I have been there and it’s the bes5 zoo I ever gone too
Cheyenne mountain zoo in Colorado springs should be here
Ayeee philly !!!!
You really put the pliedelpha zoo over Columbus zoo
Yay, Missouri representation
Your lucky u live in Missouri, henry dorly zoo is all Nebraska has to offer
I definetely agree about San Diego and Henry Doorly being the top two. I personally put San Diego in the number one spot because the transitions between exhibits are so incredibly seamless and because of all of the additional features at the zoo. But they are close. And I will acknowledge that the Kingdoms of the Night and Lied Jungle exhibits are better than any other exhibits I've ever visited.
Im from Omaha , Henry Doorly is awesome
San Diego has many outdated exhibits. No way it’s above Omaha or even Bronx.
Believe it or not I went to st.louis zoo and saw a giraffe kissing a zebra
If they added great white sharks to Henry Doorly zoo that would be amazing also Nebraska #1 state
It's almost impossible to keep one. The only ones with the skill are a few Japanese aquariums and they could only do it for a few months
You can’t get away with that mistake the tiger leaning against a wall for the Denver zoo is actually in the Denver aquarium
Phoenix zoo is great to, right?
I love your channel but you are inccorect with respect to the distance of the San Diego zoo to downtown as it actually boarders downtown & a short walk to pretty much anywhere downtown.BTW I'm from San Diego.
That's what I thought. It's been a while since I've been to San Diego and the San Diego Zoo but I did not recall it being a good 30 plus miles from downtown San Diego.
@@cajayson8301 True, not sure how they came up with that figure but your memory serves you well. Downtown / Balboa Park is pretty compact, that's kind of the beauty of San Diego.
@@512bb San Diego is a beautiful city! I've only been there once but am hoping to return someday. It's not too far by plane for me since I reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.
@@cajayson8301 Ah yes, San Francisco is beautiful as well. I haven't been their for sometime, as I used to go quite a bit.
@@512bb for my entire life, I've lived 45 minutes to an hour east of San Francisco so I've been hundreds of times. It never gets boring.
We definitely like San Diego in this region. On the other hand, that other major SoCal city, LA, is definitely on our shit list ;)
I like how they have the Fort Worth zoo on here as they show the city of Dallas smh disrespecting Fort Worth
I know right
Columbus Zoo should be way higher on the list. Top 2 at least. It has everything.
I’d love to go to these zoos but someone decided to eat a bat and now we’re forced to quarantine ourselves.
Fuck yeah Columbus zoo, go there once a week!
Toledo zoo is #1
TYE BRONX ZOO WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST
I've never even heard of #1.
dinosoid2000 that’s because it’s in Nebraska which is usually overshadowed by California since more people visit California than Nebraska. Nebraska is a state most people don’t pay attention to which is why it’s not that known.
😌
China does not “gift” pandas to US zoos. They charge up to $1 million a year to rent one, as well as a one time $400,000 baby tax.
Why would you show a shot of the Dallas skyline for the fort worth zoo and then show brown bears which that zoo doesn't have? Makes me wonder what else you got wrong in this video
If you’re going to feature the Fort Worth Zoo you should show Fort Worth and not Dallas.
Cincinnati grand tradition. Need new exhibits for polar bears, elephants, giraffes and big cats.
THE CAT COMPLEX WAS DEMOLISHED BACK IN FALL
WAIT WHICH ONE???!
@@ac0rps32 the one in Omaha
@@TheRandomZooVisitor NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@@TheRandomZooVisitor i havent been there in awhile so i didnt know ;-; my childhood
Wait I thought it was still up we just moved the big cats.
Bronx over Columbus
Audobon zoo
sure denver but not cheyenne mountain? rigged
Denver is definitely better
9th
phileldepha over columbus
the phila, zoo sorry is a grossly overated zoo several people told me the holding pens were empty alot of animals were not on display some of the facilities were obsolete not fit for any animals there are so old,
Exactly. Old zoo, but not that great.
Fort Worth at 8 it is so overatted it is not even the 2nd best zoo in texas
Exactly. Dallas zoo and Houston zoo are definitely better.
The zoos of the world should get together to help the zoos in the Ukraine...they need food for the animals and or ways to remove the animals to a safer location...perhaps in a nato country...they are suffering...and need your help.
Waittttt dude it might be cause I’m from there and have been soooo many times on field trips when I was a kid but whew the Bronx Zoo is trashhhhh
Fuck no
🤡
How can the Bronx Zoo be trash , they have a much Better Gorilla exhibit than the San Diego Zoo.?
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
this list is bad
Nice I saw this fast
