Kudos to Samyang for thinking outside the box. As a stills shooter pretty much exclusively, I can appreciate the uniform size and weight, the weather sealing, and the overall improvement in build quality. I personally wouldn't get too wound up about size and price. They seem to be in the same ballpark as the Sigma I series. What could be a deal breaker for me though, would be the lack of a lens hood, and that horrific stainless band around the front of the lens.😆

The unified color tone is a nice feature for keeping things consistent!

Agreed. That's really important - particularly for Samyang, whose colors have not always been consistent from lens to lens.

As primarily run and gun video/documentary shooter, I’m very excited about the set, esp. if they introduce electronic VND and anamorphic adapter for the front. Game changers!

Those are the two accessories that I think are most likely to come (though I have no insider info on that)

    Please make a definitive review about a-vf 45 T1. 9 and 100mm T2. 3

I would like to, but I'm not sure what's going on over at Samyang. I just haven't been hearing from them at all in 2024.

I don't really do any video work, so I don't see myself buying into this series, but I really like the 45 and 24 f1.8 and 85 f1.4. I'm curious to see what other accessories they come up with for the V-AF system. I think I saw that some marketing material for their new 35-150 f2-2.8 had a dolly zoom mode, so another example of how they're experimenting with video features.

I'm really looking forward to the 45mm, as it was early and had a really cheap build, but I loved the optics.

Oh, another review idea since there are essentially none in existence, review the Laowa 100mm 2x Macro T3 Cine version. The cinema housing really fixes that focus throw problem and the form factor/internal focusing could be massive upgrades even compared to the new Laowa 90mm macro for us video shooters.

    Good review
Are you going to review Samyang 35-150 f2-f2.8

I got the Laowa Argus 45mm 0.95 just before seeing your review of the Argus 35mm 0.95. An official in-depth review and comparison on that lens would be valuable for any of us who were torn between the two. Im actually still thinking of picking up the 35mm anyway just to have it. Just an idea for future content. I think "lens showdown" videos are fun.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm so swamped with reviews right now that I can't make any promises.

Exciting. I luv it when 3rd party lens mfcts outo the camera manufactures themselves. Price point reasonable. Go, go Samyang! 😎😎

I wish sigma would the same cine line i kinda trust them more but good that samy started trend. Though their accessory looks weird and unnecesarry i mean isn’t universallity what e mount is best at

After what I've seen from this series, I do hope it catches on as a concept as these are really useful lenses.

So correct me if i am wrong but they sell as an accessory something that they could have incorporate in the original focus ring of the lens.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад +1

I'm not sure the MF accessory could have been incorporated without radically changing the size of the lens. I'm not quite sure how it works, but I've almost never seen hard stops or distance markings on any AF lens on mirrorless before.

The ring becomes aperture control and you get an industry standard 95mm front for filters and matte boxes.

I can't seem to find it, but is the optical formula for the v-af 75mm the same as the tiny series? Love mine, but also patiently awaiting an updated version with weather sealing so I can take it more places.

I suppose that depends on your cinematic ability. The lenses and camera are certain capable of very nice footage.

Was hoping these were going to be anamorphic. Appreciate the review, but doesn’t really get me anything more than what I currently have.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an anamorphic adapter.
