Am I the only one who thinks this guy is really f*ng* smart? It´s not because of his skills, it´s the kind of way he talks and tells you how something works. Keep it going!
Idea for a video: how to make distinctive faction features of costumes for LARPing. For example you have 3 gangs of raiders, how to make costume say which gang it is without having literally the same costume.
Thank you VERY much for bringing this up! Dmitri has mentioned an event in several of his past videos called Wasteland Weekend, and if all goes well he'll be out this year and I'm hoping to get a chance to meet with him. More importantly I'm hoping he gets a chance to see my League play the post-apocalyptic sport of jugger as played in the Rutger Hauer film The Blood of Heroes, with my League being one of the few that plays full-contact and fully-armored. We've previously played with two teams but now have a third, and the very point AND example you mentioned being something we deal with. We have three color-coded teams, Red, Gold , and Blue, but rather than merely painting our gear in those colors we actively encourage players to theme their gear based on their team's theme and style. Red Team is "Biker/Viking", bixing a motorcycle-gang look with sporting goods and tires to look more like the Humungus' gang from the Road Warrior (with a lot of red to it of course). Gold Team is more military, representing remnants of an Army of Los Angeles, working military surplus gear into its armor as well as logos from LA-area sports teams. Blue Team is more "feral," going with a more tattered "wasteland" look, missing tire and sporting goods (and a lot of blue in warpaint-like designs) with natural materials. for us we're using it to distinguish between sports teams, but different Tribes (camping groups) might theme themselves in a style as well, such as Romans (in the style of Fallout: New Vegas), street gangs, military units, or whatnot...trust me, you'r idea not only has merit but would be a good video idea and, if he wants to photograph or film any of it at Wasteland Weekend, would work great for a new video. :)
@@Gilleban I know this Wasteland Weekend was three years ago, but if Dimitri didn't make a video about this yet, Wastelands Weekend 2022 is just on the horizon. . .
I'd indeed love to see more minimalistic pieces from you. Something that doesn't even need a backstory because it conveys story and context with just the right ammount of detail. I must say your regular pieces, while awesome and badass, sometimes suffer from being too perfect. Everything is so well thought out and refined from a designer's point of view it tends to lack a bit of life. This is what I meant when I jokingly commented "when the apocalypse actually happens, people will wear post apoc cosplay they'll find in a bunker". Your stuff is so well designed you start to wonder in what context would people get enough time to craft such detailed gear for themselves :) I think this whole point could be summed up with this quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry : "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." Cheers.
See you in two weeks at Wasteland Weekend! My wife and I have been watching your videos for years now and are excited to tell you personally how thankful we are for all you have taught us(which is pretty much everything we know about PA costuming).
Can you maybe do a build where instead of the stereotypical dessert wasteland apocalypse, it is a winter apocalypse. With most apocalypse outfit you have that grunge effect and all those different shades of dirt dust etc. But when the whole world is covered in snow there wouldn't be a lost of that dirt dust, so how would you handle that in making a costume. and of course the fact that you need a lot more cover up and need to think about keeping warm with this outfit. Might be a cool challenge
Don't cling to a mistake just because it took a long time to make. That's what I live by when it comes to creating things. Kind of reminds me of your first point. :)
He's brought it up in a previous video, referring to it as "Sunk-Cost Fallacy"...his first point here is that you have to feel like something is only "good" if you've put a lot of effort into it, where Sunk-Cost Fallacy is, as you've pointed out, that feeling of unwillingness to abandon something that doesn't work because of what it cost in time, money, or effort. :)
Theres basically only two Designers that come to my mind when talking about different styles of kit. Its Wastelandpirate, and Sump Kidd of Rad Roach Gear. Everybody else, including me, basically does the same "Style"over and over again ;)
You're so great, probably my favorite costume designer. I'd love to see what you would do for a costume that's only 10-15 years after the apocalypse, or maybe during the downfall of society
Okay time out wait how do I make the hood out of pants like is there a tutorial that'll show me about where I need to make my cuts so I can pull it off
I actually made a hood out of the butt of pants too LOL I just wanted a hood and saw these ripped up pants and I was like they are they are. Also can't wait to see you in Wasteland
@Nuclear Snail Studios Would you kindly give us the link of "Alexander Pringle"? I'd like to have a look into his works too, but I can't seem to find the correct website / channel.
not to brag about my own home made Post Apocalypse costume I know the only flaw i could think of, is the nails and Rusted L ranch on the shoulder. I wish i never did that because it stab and poke many. I don't want to get rid of it, but I just won't wear it anymore. only did on the Comic-con like places twice lol and twice they were like fuck, is that real? lol but nowadays I just leave it out. but I gotta say whenever I see a Cosplayer trying to make a fallout outfit, and it looks as goofy as the one you showed i laugh a little inside. because is way to clean underneath, the one that over it, is tries to look messy and broken, yet is very neat and all, but they always go up to me and ask a million question on what I did to mines. at the sametime, they wanna show me what other stuff they did and i end up laughing a bit more because is one awful costume up the next, but i give them some advise like to get it more weather down, and use a bit of adhesive spray to put some construction dirt over it and spray some more just to add a bit more. and then next year. They never do lmfao they end up showing me the next new thing they did, that look just as goofy as the next one again haha Is kinda cute and their near my age too lmfao (35yrs)
This went from a normal advise video to a therapy session to an inspirational speech.
:D
*yes*

Regarding point 1. Sunk cost fallacy is a serious problem in literally everything in life. Good point.
Super strong marketing/sales tactic though
LOL. Truth.

I understand the question but I don't think I'm explaining this right

I'd love to go but I don't have 200$ to spend to get skinned and left in the middle of the dessert
Thanks for the pep talk. Appropriate choice for addressing the problem of what to do with one's hands on camera.

Demitri should be the Wasteland Outfit Polizei (said it with love and peace)
Where did you get that tomahawk?
They are available on most armouries worldwide
Danke! Question; (ja ja...) What were your best costume achievements and what were your worst fails? Be well.

Pants are pants
pants are overrated
pants are cloth
Cloth can be anything you like it to be.
Pants are Parts to craft with 🙃
Pants are hoods
