    I bought one of these a few months ago after watching your review (amongst others). I fell in love with the Mk5 Polo GTI when it was first released and it’s great to finally have one at the tender age of 36! Perfect little car to have some fun in whilst still maintaining a classier image than its rivals… you’re spot on with that observation. Now to just pray it doesn’t go boom any time soon… 😅🙏

    The fiesta St May be more fun to drive, but driving it daily is another thing, I know a lot of people eventually get fed up with the harder ride, etc, whereas cars like the polo has better ride quality, more practical, besides some people like to have a more powerful car for overtaking on motorways, cruises better, and don't want boy racer looks. Personally I like both cars, but I'd imagine the polo would be easier to live with day to day.

    When your married got kids but want to keep your youth you will understand about hot hatches, they appeal to a wide range of car enthusiasts, from the people you describe (who fit loud exhausts and pretend they go faster) to the more mature family man who can drop the wife and kids off and have a bit of driving fun without breaking the bank, with subtle mods or re-mapping. Honestly you try firstly getting a baby seat in a three door then secondly folding the child in two getting them in, then the one handed grab and swing to get them out, it ain’t pretty!

    A hot hatch isn't something I'd search out to buy but I can see the appeal for some people. If you need to carry more than 2 people sometimes possibly children and you need a reasonable amount of boot space plus you want something with a bit more power than a standard hatch then a sports car probably isn't what you need. Also I notice this has 5 doors which a lot of hot hatches don't which is a benefit if you're having to put kids in the back.

  • @danl4252
    @danl4252 5 лет назад +11

    Imo you need the 6C version of the Polo GTI with the manual box and the 1.8TSI engine which is better, more refined and more reliable. and imo is the better hot hatch. I do like the Fiesta and the handling is supposed to be mint, that said I think I’d go for the Polo as I think it is the better all round car, and better built that the same era Fiesta. Also you just don’t get the premium sort of feel with the competition apart from the A1,which the Polo basically is underneath. That makes the Polo a bargain and it’ll deprecate much less than its rivals too.

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  5 лет назад +2

      Dan L It’s a very good car, but I don’t think I’d buy one. As a hot hatch, I think it needs to be manual - as you said, it would be much more fun. The Fiesta ST is more thrilling to drive. I quite like the polo GTi because it doesn’t feel like a hot hatch. I’m not a massive hot hatch fan though... I feel like I’m rambling now 😂

If I need to drop the kids off to school in the morning it is a very practical car. When i jump in the car in the evening after a very hard day at work and want to have some fun driving home I think it would achieve that. Nice video and nice car. Like you it's not for me but I can see the attraction. I'm no petrol head as such but, correct me if I'm wrong. The 7 speed DSG is a dry clutch and does not require the regular service whereas the 6 speed wet clutch calls for regular oil changes.
    I had a 7 speed DSG Fabia and loved it. There was a factory recall to change the gearbox oil from synthetic to mineral, a one off requirement.( I think they'd been overheating in tropical climes) As for the 'creep' it does take a little getting used to but I could drive mine as smooth as any TC gearbox once I got used to it. Thanks again, keep the vids coming.

    I don't undersrand what's not to be understood about the hot hatch concept. Small, light, nimble, quick, practical. Fair economy in a fun all-rounder package that technically began with the original mini. Anyone who likes driving can very well appreciate a hot hatch provided it is well designed. Most so-called sports cars are full of useless gadgets, weigh too much and cost a lot of money to run. The hot hatch is basically for most people who DO like sports cars but can't justify/afford driving one everyday while they may actually own several to enjoy occasionally. It's the most logical car concept ever devised for people who actually enjoy driving. How is that difficult to understand?

    Hmm, if it's important a 200hp car looks like a sportscar than how about a Mk3 Megane RS or Integra Type R (DC2 or DC5)? Despite the hatchback underpinnings, they have the swoopy body lines. :)

    Can sort of see why you don't like them. However for me it's nothing a about being able to get kids in back + stuff in the boot, for me it's about be able to get a mountain bike in "Hot Hatches" as I race mountain bikes in XC all round the south of the UK so need that space but also like fun/quick hatch (but only me so don't need Golf space). So afriad you miss the point of the Hot Hatches gives you performance but also ability for a normal bloke like me get my mountain bike kit into such a car do my races but then have quick and fast rest of the time (as I do some track days) and drive day to day impossible in the show off 2 seaters.
