After a few years of trying to mess with this program your vid about chromecasting just recently got recommended to me. A few months ago I had finally got it to just look at my own folder of pics but didn't go further because I wasn't ready to get a mini computer to mount to a TV but seeing the vid about casting just made me renew my interest. Thanks for these vids, that program is cool but it isn't very amateur user friendly, I think. Wish I had found you sooner.

Oh wow that was pretty sweet. I'd heard of that software, but needing a PC always seemed clunky. Your solution of remoting with a chromecast is brilliant! Would you say the killer feature of movie poster is the plex integration? I'm working on my own (Dynaframe) and maybe that'll be the next feature. Mine was designed for artwork but it's definitely grown to do more, and movie posters has been a big request.
I’d say so. The Plex integration is awesome and all my friends love it. It really makes it feel like an actual cinema. Your program sounds great! I’d love to see the finished product!

I hadn't seen this video previously, and if I had, now I wish I had picked your brain about this a bit at MWAVE! I am looking to do the same thing, however I am limited with outlets on the outside of my Theater. I think I may do a small screen or tablet on the exterior of my HT,
Nice video. I just did a cheap Wal-Mart 40in hisense with a USB full of all the posters I wanted. Got a studless tv mount from lowes for 24. Will end up getting more over time to fill the walls but I like whole integration idea though. Looks good

@@hatoraidcowboy most tv's have a built in slideshow for USB content. The hisense is a roku so you have to download their media player. I just use that app to slideshow the posters

Is there a way to use an old phone to send a constant feed to a screen? I was just gonna use a USB, but everytime the TV turns off I have to reboot it. Looking for something that if I turn the TV off and on, it pics right up where it left off. I have several old phones and figured it would be a better alternative saving energy than running a computer
Hmmm. There might be a way to rig something up with a google phone, but I’m not that smart LOL The creator of the software would probably know that answer best. But seems like it was designed specifically to run on a computer.

I got everything to work now and it is wonderful
I did notice one thing-there is a lag of about 2-3 minutes between what is on my laptop and what is my marquee.
Is there a way I can speed this up through the settings to cut out the lag/delay

are yoou able rto cast to multiple devices at once ?
I’ve only ever been able to cast to one device. Not sure if Chromecast can cast to multiple devices simultaneously. I dont think they can though
You could use a $35 Raspberry Pi (assuming it'll go back down to $35, anyways - RS Components ended their contract with the Raspberry Pi foundation and most boards are currently $150) and Chromium to get better results. MoviePoster supports HTML5 canvas features and can do something the dev calls "WebView", where it just posts the poster to your internal IP address with "/WebView.html?displayid(0)" attached to it. 0 can be replaced with 1 if you have two webview displays configured in the settings

This was a very good explanation and setup. Is there a different way to download the poster software as 'm thinking the site is not allowing downloads.
Not that I know of. I think you have to download directly from the website. Are you not able to download it?

@@darrylarnold9745 you might need to contact him directly. Make sure you are downloading the developer build. Also if you have anti virus software it might be blocking it.
i love your video but when i go to the plugins option it only shows manual playing and emby and plex and xbmc -kodi when i press plex it only shows active,deviced to watch myplexusername and my password there is no port nothin im confuse

Are you using the correct version? You have to use the Developer version, I couldnt get the normal one to work.

Should the movieposter app be installed on the pc running the Plex Server?
No it can be installed on any computer.
I can't get this app to connect no matter what I do!!! Initially tried to connect to Plex on my Qnap NAS. I then loaded Plex server on a PC with the same results.
@mikehill9834 That is odd. Never had mine not work. You should probably reach out to the developer for troubleshooting

Thank you for your reply. I did download the old version which did not have the IP address option so I was trying to download new version but for some reason it’s not letting me unzip the file. I did try all unzip software. I don’t know what to do. I wound really appreciate your input. Thank you.
Which TV mount did you use to get the tv in portrait position?
You have to buy a monitor mount. Not TV. Monitor mounts allow you to turn the monitor vertically. You can search on Amazon 🙂

Thanks for the video. I'm having trouble when entering the server info. When I test the connection I always get an error or Connection Fail notice. Is there something in the Plex of Movie Poster settings that I'm missing? Do I need to change, disable or enable something?

I’ve had this issue before when I was first setting up MoviePoster. Not sure what your issue is, but double check your ip address and make sure your device id is 100% accurate.
What device/plex client are you trying to use?
@@hatoraidcowboy Im using Roku. I was able to connect but for some reason it says there nothing playing on Roku Ultra even though thers a movie running on it. Also, there is nothing playing through "Now Playing" Dashboard on Plex even though there's a movie playing on the Roku. I noticed that my Activity icon in plex remains gray. Im I missing something in the setup? The IP addresses match as well.
@@robertgruber2629 Hmm. I’ve never heard of that. It’s def not MoviePoster then. Something is going on with Plex. Does it show something is playing on the computer that Plex is installed in? Like the dashboard on the login page?

I dont think so. You can manually display the movie art to reflect what is currently playing. But as far as automatically, it needs to be connected to plex and tied to a device.
Wall anchors or togglers will hold that tv without a stud. I have my 75in on all togglers for the past 4yrs

Its not downloading or not installing?
So I was able to play around with the JSONRPC api(from Kodi) and tMDB api key to pull the now playing movie from kodi, save the image poster and publish it to the local server of a rpi. Still a WIP but works really well.
That sounds beyond me lol
@@hatoraidcowboyyou’d be surprised I had ai code everything through trial and error. All on python and html, now I just type in my local rpi ip and port # and it populates the “Now Playing” text with the movie poster!
Would be cool to see if you can make this out of a raspberry pi smart display to make a custom display/ custom dimensions.
That's what Dynaframe that I wrote does :) I loved this idea but I wanted to create something that didn't require a full PC.

@@SuperheroSlate Not yet. We're working on the ability to sync to Kodi and then exposing the APIs so others can make apps to sync to others stuff. I want it to sync to everything :)

Can I use any wireless dongle or it have to be a chrome cast?
🤔 I havent tried any other means. As long as you can cast your desktop from the source to your display it should work. I’ve only tried chromechast cause I had one lying around.

@@tjkmj That would be cool! I’m not sure if the program has the function to work with Xbox games. I think it is only PLEX. Plex does offer gaming now so if you have your Plex set up to play games then it could work that way. Let me know how you like it once you get everything set up!
My plex remote wont stay connected so when I test connect it wont connect

You dont have to connect it to PLEX to pull artwork. You can just use it as a generic movie poster. Plex integration will show whatever you’re watching from your server though.

Movie poster will pull movie art from whatever device you’re using Plex on. You just have to tell MoviePoster which devices you want it to pull from.

@@olliejohn2076 If you want to pull movie posters specifically from Plex yes, but you can still pull generic movie posters without using PLEX. The Plex integration is just an added bonus. But you can still pull posters just fine without PLEX 🙂

So this will only work when your laptop is open/charged right? No way we can set this up where it isn't connected to a PC?
You could use a latop sure. You could just change your battery and lid settings to not hibernate or sleep when closed. But you also dont have to have the program running 24/7. You can just use it as needed to conserve energy.
I think you need a pc for this to work. If you had a windows stick pc you could use directly on a tv but I doubt many people have one of those.
Thanks. I’m looking for the most cost efficient way to do this. I’ve even downloaded 100 movie posters to see if I can get them to scroll in portrait mode. Great video tho

Couldn't you just download movie posters to a usb, then plug it in the back of your tv go to whatever usb port you plugged it in, and just have ut do like you would watching pictures on your tv? Seems to be a little easier. But who knows :)
Yes I could do that, but then you lose the integration with Plex…..Start & End times, movie info, movie art. But yes you could def just download movie posters 🙂
is the Movieposter app Free? a login window keep popping up
It is free. You can dismiss that window. You can pay the creator $10 for the version without the watermark.

I am lost, I downloaded it, but it kept me in the documents section after unzipping it. I could not find the settings but I found plex and the other ones you brought up in the video. All I see is great dane cinema ticket maker, I find images but can not copy or save. Please point me in the right direction.
You said you couldnt find the settings? If you found the PLEX configuration that’s in the settings. Are you getting any type of posters cycling through at all?
Good morning, I appreciate your reply. The only poster I am getting is from the Great Dane cinema logo, with other ones in gold. I do see the five you recommend mm to configure but no settings for those.

Yes, I did download the developer version, the most updated one, on 9-4-2022. The only thing that I see is the Great Dane Cinema ticket. I get to a screen where I create a ticket with the logo and I can search logos. But not about to save logos.

You're covering up the wrong IP address, you want to be covering your public address.

Yeah when I test connection it says success but nothing is playing on plex server it says and the posters just come up but not "now playing" and icon for plex shows on the software down to the right🤷♂️🤔
@@davidtheswedishtechguy 🤔 Hmmm. That’s odd. Maybe restart your server? I’ve never had that issue before. Maybe a restart of both Plex and MoviePoster will get it working.

On the web login? It should be under settings-Remote Access. If you cant see it you may need to update to the latest version. But even then it should always be there.

@@StultifiedGraphics Try going into your Network Settings under Automatic proxy setup(Windows 11) and turn on Automatically detect settings. After many days i found this to work for me.
