Thank you for reminding me about this great music. Seeking it out on vinyl now for sure.
My favourite U2 album! Every track is brilliant.
It’s a brilliant album. I bought my copy back in 1991 and it’s still in NM condition today - and still sounds great! When ‘Even better than the real thing’ kicks in I just want to crank it up! Toss up for me which is their best album - Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree - I love both, so depends what sort of a mood I’m in I guess.
U2 could do no wrong at this time. It was about excess as they shedded their more religious like feel. Achtun Baby was so a great CD, I loved it. I did get the recently repress of it. Glad you featured the album. I saw their 360 in the round tour that was amazing
a MAsterpiece !!!!! Achtung Baby .... Love it !!!
I've been on ZooTv tour .. one of my ever 1st live shows !!! and it was AMAZING ... unforgettable !!!! marvelous !
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Tim love the Achtung Baby episode it’s my personal favorite U2 album . That’s a beautiful European original with the hype sticker . Tim I love how U2 shifted gear from Joshua Tree and was listening to the Bowie and Eno heavily to inspire Achtung Baby and even recorded in Berlin . Tim love your channel you definitely dig deep love it keep up the excellent content take care . Lovellandrew
Thank you! 🙏🏻
The Fly set the tone, what a single. it only ot better and better from there. What a trip 90's U2 were!
It's probably my favorite album of U2 and one of the first vinyls I bought.
My favourite U2 album! I vividly remember going to my friends house on the day of its release. He was a huge u2 fan . We put the album on his deck and I remember how shocking and futuristic it sounded. He was a huge U2 fan and he hated it. I wasn’t sure but it quickly grew on me.
Like you , I have the original and the recent coloured reissue. Break that baby out ! It’s a killer sounding pressing with no clicks or pops. There are a lot of tracks and the double disc treatment really improves the slightly muddy sound of the original. If anything it’s even better than the real thing ! 😝
Good to hear, thank you!
Great discussion Tim! When I first listened to this the day it came out, it struck me that this is The Edge's album while Joshua Tree is Bono's in terms of who is really featured. Bono sings with such emotion on Joshua Tree whereas Edge's unique guitar signature which he augmented even further on Achtung Baby was (and still is) the highlight to me. I think Who's Going to Ride Your Wild Horses is especially poignant for Edge as I believe he was going through a divorce at that time. I love the overdubbed layered guitars during the bridge of that song that is so haunting - you can really feel the sorrow over that relationship ending (at least that's what comes through to me). Those two albums belong amongst the greatest 1-2 punch albums by any band IMO
Excellent commentary....I hadn't really dug into the story behind that song. Love it!
“Having a hard time avoiding”. Lol
Definitely a desert island disc for me. Iconic
I liked Achtung Baby, but I think U2's iconic album is The Joshua Tree
❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Does anyone know what the re press sounds like?
Check out the reviews on Discogs, very positive! www.discogs.com/release/21040828-U2-Achtung-Baby
My favorite hidden easter eggs on Achtung Baby are all the double entendre/oral sex references throughout the entire album. Most people(including hard-core fans of the band) don’t even realize it. But they did that purposely. They are all over the album. That was part of their distancing themselves from their work in the 80s in order to evolve/change sounds/messages after “dreaming it all up again“ at the conclusion of their Joshua tree tour.
I've had bad experiences with the sound quality of U2 on vinyl. Sadly...
They claim they were taking themselves to serious, hence The Fly character. Saw that tour in in Chicago, a full mind and body experience. Flavor Fave ⏰opened for them. Bono called the White House Live via satellite phone. Lol
Wish I would’ve seen that tour 👍🏻
