What's your favourite '80s classic song? Covering ’Shout’ by Tears For Fears was a huge pleasure, this song is a masterpiece and I was blessed to work with amazing musicians and put the Neumann MT-48 through its paces! Download the multi tracks and mix the song for yourself: producelikeapro.lpages.co/shout-tears-for-fears-cover-mt48-multitracks-form/
Gosh pretty much that entire decade is my favorite era of music. To me music died after the 80s. Picking a favorite is nearly impossible for me. Man hmm DMSR by Prince, PYT by MJ, Easy Lover by Phil Collins, Talking in your sleep by The Romantics. Just to name a few. There were just so many great bands and phenomenal singers in that span of time. Even the world was such a different place and simpler time. I wish we could go back.
We are blessed to watch your videos and your lessons Mr.Warren.........now, answering your question, in the 80's it's very difficult to choose just one song, among many others LOVE WILL TEAR US APART!!!
Great Warren. The lyrics were important. Because of the things that happen in the music industry.
Roland is a genius imo. I just love so much of what TfF did. Highly recommend the Elemental album!
Agreed 100%!@@electricwhiterabbit
So, this pops up. Good lord Warren that solo. Much love my brutha, well done!
Thanks ever so much
All these years I've been following this channel, and I think this is only the second, maybe third time I've thought, "Ooh! I gotta mix that!" 😄 Really looking forward to this, and thanks for everything you guys do!
Thanks ever so much!
Great video! I met you back at NAMM two years ago. You were so friendly and cool to talk to . I love Tears for Fears.
Oh thank you!
Fabulous! Always such marvellous content and expertise from you Warren. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge with us all and providing us with insight. You have given so much to further the interests and skills of others. It is truly humbling.
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Songs from the Big Chair is one of the greatest albums of all time!
BRILLIANT JOB! Vocals were spot on!
Thanks ever so much
Marvellous Album!
My favorite group as a kid. All their songs were good. I felt them all.
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing!
This cover is Effin... Brilliant! Max is an amazing singer.. Love this so much that I've listened to the song many, many times....
Thanks ever so much!
always appreciated the production on this song, great subject for your series.
Thanks ever so much
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic as always, Warren! Thanks so much.
Thanks ever so much
This sounds fabulous!! Well done all around and impressively smooth sound. Neumann has once again, pushed the standard ever higher.
Thanks ever so much David!
Thank you guys!! This will be fun to mix :)
Glad you like it!
Great sounding cover and great find by Kasia in the vocalist. Nice bit of kit too, in that interface. Have fun at NAMM Warren and team!
Agreed 100%! Thanks Karen!
Very Nice! One of my favorite songs, definitely downloading the multitracks.
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much!
I'm very fortunate to own a sequential serial pair of TLM 170's from their inception year of 1985(according to Neumann). They'll be the last gear I ever part with if I have to. This was apparently the same model of mic used on "Songs From The Big Chair" vocals. Would be pretty amazing if they were the same ones!
The classical studio down the street from me does a lot of great artists in that world and uses Merging tech. It's top notch stuff for ultimate transparency, it seems.
Love your videos as always, Warren. Great cover. The MT-48 sounds amazing.
One of the most underrated Neumann's to be sure. There was a great demo of Benchmark preamps years ago and TLM 170's were all over it and remarkable on horns.
@@MoreMeRecording absolutely. Beautiful sounding mics. Not all the color people are used to on classic Neumann's but beautiful sounding, nonetheless.
Thanks ever so much Aaron for sharing!
Sounds marvelous! Great job. Really interesting choices in this mix. I like it! It reminds me of how mixes used to sound. I also think it's cool you guys used a Sennheiser on the snare. I remember in studios around my area in the 80s and 90s Sennheiser were de-facto.
Thanks ever so much! Really glad you enjoyed the video
Awesome. Great cover. One of my favourite songs of all time. Thankyou to you all. ❤
Thanks ever so much!
Nice!!! We are gonna have fun mixing this Song! Thanx Warren!!!
Thanks ever so much!
Love the 80's. The combo of synth with pop/rock and guitars is always a favorite. I also like how 80's songs sound easy and commercially, but are actually well made with talent, interesting music theory and creativity.
Thank for making this available to practice on. It is a great cover, and the practice really helps.
At first I wasn't sure if I liked your guitar solo, but after working with it in the mix with the right sends, it sounds really good.
I would love to have someone to take a listen and tell me their thoughts on my mix. thanks.
Are you a member of Produce Like A Pro Academy? We listen to mixes every week. Many thanks
I've been waiting for this cover!
Marvellous
Great production well done folks. The interface looks and sounds cool. Smashing video, thanks very much
Thanks ever so much Joey!
Fun fact: A correlation between John Bonham and this song. The song used an Emu Drumulator for the drums. The sounds are the “Rock Kit” chips . Which is originally made by Digidesign. (Before pro tools ) The Rock kit were in fact samples by Digi from John Bonhams recordings. You did a wonderful job recreating a drum machine with real drums . This was so cool!
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Such a fantastic song. I am a kid of the 80s. And this cover is just insane. Have to mix it 😅
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much Herwig!
This was a great production and an interesting mix, great job guys, one love.....
Much appreciated!
Dude did the song justice!!💯✊🏾💯✊🏾 Love it!!!!!
Thanks ever so much!
What a performance, sounded spot on and love the mug and teapot !
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much!
Hallo Warren, great Video! Do you time ajust all room mics or only for Kick?
I only adjust the kick to itself and the snare to the overheads
Cool funky bits with the guitar in the middle of the song. Can't remember them in the original. Very cool part! Also fantastic keyboard parts and sounds! The vocals are killer!
Yes! This bridge guitar parts are there in the original!
Great work Warren and the gang! Max sounds great!
Thanks ever so much Chris!
I have the Merging version of this and the its counterpart, the HAPI. They sound so freaking good. By far the best of any interface I have ever used.
Yes, I’m very impressed
Love Tears for Fears and love your video !!!!!!
And love remembering when I was a kid ❤
Thanks ever so much
Fantastic Mr.Warren, great song, great record, great video!!!!!! In 1997 I played drums on the cover of Shout here in Brazil, on percussion instead of mugs I used a gas cylinder 😂😂😂
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Great as always! Which mic he used on his vocals? Thanks!
Good question! I will quick!
Exciting to mix! High quality stuff.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks ever so much!
Really interesting to follow the process. Fantastic vocals,
Thanks ever so much Jan!
Omg this song took me back to my childhood!!! Excellent choice as I have always dug this tune. I cannot wait to get my hands on the multi tracks to habla de fun with it.
Neumann makes top shelf products and are well worth the cost of admission. A $300 interface is not going to come close to the quality of that unit. The app reminds me of TotalMix by RME.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Dang, that vocal, the synths, so good!
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much
Excellent work!!
Thanks ever so much!
An all time favourite, well done
Thanks ever so much!
Well impressed with the singing !
Yes! Amazing singer! We love Max
The vocals are very good:) Nice!
Thanks for listening
*what a great song. love it.*
more good old songs Warren more!
🔥🎸💯👍🏻🎅🏻🔥🎸💯👍🏻🎅🏻🔥🎸💯👍🏻🎅🏻
Thanks ever so much!
Fabulously Done !
Marvellous!
Great cover of a great song. Congrats to everyone involved.
How much I like "Shout", as a LP I still prefer the first one The Hurting: "The Hurting, Mad World, Pale Shelter, Change" make for a great tracks list.
Only Warren have a proper 1980 haircut.
Haha thanks! I've had enough haircuts! Haha to me this is my Morrisey 1984 haircut!
Great job guys!
Thanks ever so much!
Love mine, super good workflow in that you have the screen right there and you dont need to click anything on your computer to mute your headphones or change mix when tracking vocals for example. And it sounds miles way better than my old apollo, especially noticable on D/A for the monitoring.
Thanks ever so much for sharing Marius!
Holy..... that vocals! Great :)
Great cover!!
Thanks ever so much
Nice "Shout" cover, great musicianship, and great recording, mixing, and mastering!!! I actually prefer this mix compared to the original, which always had too much reverb for my tastes(the flavor of the 1980s) making it sound artificial. Playing a guitar in place of the keyboard was a great choice! Neumann, Neumann, Neumann!!!! Can't argue with the results! The MT-48 appears to be a very impressive interface.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The singer was great. He sounded very similar to Roland Orzabal. I do hope you had PG Tips in the cup. I doubt another tea brand would have sat so well in the mix. 😊
Of course! PG Tips for the win! In fact I have one now! Haha
Awesome cover loved it I am a stickler for the solo though I have the original solo stuck in my head still mega all round tho
Download the tracks and re-record the guitar solo!
@@Producelikeapro wish i had the gear bud
Back in the 90s I got VERY close to the guitar sound with just a DS-1 into the board (with the right impedance) I was really surprised.
Yes, that sounds right to me!
Very very nice guitarwork, Warren.
Thanks ever so much!
DECO are great, I follow them for about 4 years
Yes, truly awesome!
Brilliant!!!
Thanks ever so much!
very well done great Sound
Thanks ever so much!
Good job fellas
Thanks ever so much!
That was amazing
Thanks ever so much James
Steve M continues to amaze me. I love what he does on your channel and I had the opportunity to see him with Toto live
Steve is truly an amazing talent!
SOUNDS GREAT!!!!! :)
Thanks ever so much!
We (my band) played some of their hits in the 80s.
Marvellous!
Wow! Very nice cover! Hey Steve where are you? Cheers!
Haha Steve was at home
Warren's review of the mic pre: "It goes up to 11" 🙂 Shame that David Gilmour didn't pop in to add a few "boomer bends" to the guitar solos. He lives down the road, I believe 🙂👍
Hahaha It goes to 11! I did some 'boomer bends' at the end of the song! Haha
Nicely done! You definitely got the right guy to sing it and everything sounds great. I'd say the Neumann passed the test with flying colors. (or colours, for you Brits! lol)
I think so too! Thanks ever so much
Hey! Warren got chops! 😎
Aw shucks!
Thanks ever so much
very good!!!!
Glad you think so!
The Singer nailed it here
Agreed! Max is amazing!
Did Max dip into the cup & kettle?
Did he drink some tea? Most likely!
A 200 watt Hiwatt? How are the walls still standing?
Haha it's pretty darn LOUD indeed!
Sounds good
Thanks ever so much!
Hola from Florida
Hello there!
What about the cups?!?😊
haha they are awesome!
Amazing sound. Like a sonicly clear updated version of original. Just need to hold out the bass notes in the verses. It messes with my ears lol
Thanks for listening Glad you enjoyed it!
You couldn't even get a Bass player in there. So sad....... Plus, having grown up when this came out and listening to it so much that the whole song is seared into my auditory memory such that my perfectionist brain is cringing a little at the subtle nuances in the original that are lacking in this version. However, the production in and of itself is outstanding as always! Thank you for sharing as always!
Haha we did the key bass just like the original!
Trust me I’d be happy to play bass on there if it made sense!
The original had the bass programmed. There are interviews in Sound On Sound which details the production. Kurt did very little on this track other than sing.
The singer are really good :-)
Yes, Max is amazing!
the mugs were the secret ingredient. and NOW i finally know. it's only for so long you can hide things. how much is a mug like that?
the guy actually looks like roland. is he his son? great pipes. and the inflections are on point, too.
i usually compliment you on your work, but the original guitar solo was one of the best features of the song. you either come up with better, or leave it be :p.
Thanks ever so much! Yes, Max is a wonderful singer!
Epic song
So amazing!
As cool as possible!
About original drums sound, they sound like e-mu cannon drums used by Trevor Horn on Art Of Noise, to me...
...let's get light about the vocalist (really great, BTW) "C'mon" accent... 😊
Marvellous! There's bleed on the drum mics in the original multitracks, so yes, definitely a blend of live and triggered!
The vocalist nailed it
Agreed 100%!
@@Producelikeapro I should have said so did all of you guys but I loved his tone in particular. It suited the song so well. I’ve also done a cover of mad world and I know covers can be hard 👍
@@robbiemichaels2347 thanks! Yes, Max is awesome
BIG LIKE FROM "ISRAEL" !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant! Cut some of the cover out for a short or two!
Marvellous idea
Stay tuned
Stylish Neumann mugs
Haha yes, indeed!
Why does, everybody wants to rule the world and Michael Jackson, the way you make me feel, have the same drums?🤔
They both have that galloping bass groove and very simple drum beat!
😃Wow!
Thanks ever so much!
Don’t You from Simple Minds
Masterpiece
Challenge to play the Bass consistently
Eyes without a face
Marvellous
Super 👍😃
Thanks ever so much!
brutal lml
Thanks ever so much!
Now that's an expensive keyboard 🎹 😂
The Casio? They were so cheap when they first came out
😮
Marvellous!
Vocalist sounds so much like Roland.
Agreed 1090%!
thats it im done!! no more advanced teapot lessons for me...i quit!! ill never reach this level of competence!! im done 😋
Haha thanks Adrian!
was the drummer in his undies?
That was Nick, La Barca studio owner and yes, they do look like underwear don't they! Haha
Fabulous cover! The vocals are so close to Roland's original. But why would you mess up a simple yet one of the most iconic guitar Solo's of the 80s???
That really really broke my heart!!
Marvellous! Feel to download the multitracks and mimic the guitar solo at the end exactly!
Guy looks a bit like Orzabal.
Yep, same thing with marc martell and freddie mercury. Some physical look-a-likes have similar voices despite not being related
Does he? I hadn't;t honestly thought that! I'm sure he will be flattered!
True about Marc and Freddie!
I seriously can not believe that anyone can talk about 80's music without mentioning His Royal Highness Prince. Purple Rain and Under the Cherry Moon!!!
Haha indeed! We weren't talking about '80s music though! Just the recording of this one song for the demo!
What about the cups?!?😊
Neumann CUPS! haha
