First time I went through this was '03. I was a NUB, and scared shitless. After the event, I was freezing my balls off, but walked away extremely confident and with a greater appreciation for proper DC training.

Did the wet trainer at Groton. We were working underwater by the end, and that water was FREEZING!!!

I went through Groton's Wet trainer in January or February. It took 15-20 minutes in a hot shower to warm up.

Went through this a couple days ago, it was a pretty fun time being stuck near the flange rupture holding the chain wrench on an almost patched leak

Looks quite different from my experience in the wet trainer in Pearl Harbor. These guys look pretty leisurely in their initial response. At first, there is nothing being done about the two biggest leaks. WTF? Why didn't the team split up and start working on those leaks while taking care of the other task they seem so interested in? Strange.

It's called trainer for a reason man, we're beginners 😂

But at the same time, yeah this team is moving incredibly slow

As for moving slow, it is a safety concern. It is all controlled. I remember climbing on one of the rails to get a better angle on one of the leaks, drill secured, safety concern. I tried to argue the point, train like you fight. Didn't fly.

At what point does sub school start weeding guys out that are prone to claustrophobic episodes, hysteria and panic? Isn't everything else wasted motion if trainees can't clear these critical metrics?

That is mostly done at MEPS. If you claim to have any of those symptoms, you're not getting past the doctors there. If you lied to get in or didn't know you had any these symptoms, the first few months of sub school will be hard for people with genuine disorders. All of the classes and trainers are small and make you get into enclosed spaces with the trainers having something cover your face, so claustrophobia would be seen easily. The slow rise of pressure and water in the "Escape Trainer" would make someone with higher levels of anxiety start to panic. The entirety of B.E.S.S. and their trainers are implemented for just this.

Do any claustrophobics make it to actual deployment before being discovered? And wouldn't even hardened veterans reach a breaking point after prolonged and chronic exposure to confined happenstances? Panic is the suspected cause of many mountaineering disasters. Especially the calamities at Yosemite National Park killing 2 expert climbers. It's surmised that 3/4 the way up the wall the climb stalled. And once realizing they lacked ability to proceed they panicked and fell. @@abelgaska7745
