1. Is it same procedure for US Citizen also?
2. What is the procedure for the gold which was bought in India or inherited we already got into USA. How to assess them and get export certificate ?

It is not just the issue upon arrival in India. When you return to the US, you have to declare the value of any Jewelry on hand, and anything over I think $1000 (I may be wrong on this number) is subject to duty and this includes what you wear according to recent real encounter videos at US customs. Bottom line not worth buying any Jewelry in India because the merchants cheat and sell 16-18 K gold as 22K. By the time you pay for this fraud and labor charges etc and now the certificates and BS, Is it really worth the head ache?.
In some cases as a nri if you come to india by chance if you have more than the allowable unit. Can we keep in custom locker and take back when you return back??

I have been travelling to MAA for almost a decade from the Middle East, Unlike other trips to MAA, this time(Aug trip)the customs officials at MAA airport scrutinising all the passengers of possession of Gold.
Please declare at actuals when questioned by Customs Officials. There are many regulations in terms of taking Gold from india to any country and back to India.
One can take unlimited gold to any country and return to india, if you have a valid affidavit(I was told by customs official).
Overall, a tricky to back and forth the Gold.
As far as I know please refer to “Baggage rules 2016”

If we are going from USA to India and wearing the used jewelry usually like chain, rings, bracelets, bangles what is the procedure?
Whether you have to pay customs duty if you buy 2 kg of gold in foreign, used it for 4 years and brought into India after declaring the jewels to Customs on arrival?
No if you have the certificate which proves you brought those jewels from india to abroad and wearing back the same

It is better that the government gives clear rules that whoever visiting india should not bring any gold to india.
Whoever is leaving from india also must not take any gold with them.
India will stop importing or export gold officially as well.
It is good to control trafficking smuggler , whether the restriction is in place or not.
How to part a chain weigh more than 10 or 20 grams looks very silly.
Totally impractical option and penalising whoever comming to india.

i dont think the point said around 4 to 5 min interval..if the gold is in the form of ornaments and you are wearing it.. you dont have to pay anything. you dont have pay even if you have purchased that gold in US. only the gold ornaments which you are not wearing or the gold biscuits or bars above limit only for tha tyou have to pay...
