Incredible K. Memphis Drum Shop hit the jackpot when they scored this one. I imagine it is long gone by now. I hear lots of Jack DeJohnnette in Eric's playing. But he has his own voice. One of the modern greats. Five STARS!
More like take it as an inspiration!!! Eric is amazing and though he has an amazing gift he also had to work hard to refine it!! Practice more! Work hard. Be easy on yourself man. There is only one Eric Harland. Continue to be yourself on the drums and everything will be fine... /watch?v=aKGYtt4dbxg
I have this ride, bought it 3 years ago and mine sounds nothing like this one, Zildjian probably change the weights or something. Eric Harland is a badass though.
So I have a 21" Special Dry Ride, and after a few years its gained a bit more dirt. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on whether or not to polish it, not sure if that would decay the original finish/lathing. Thanks
How about diluting your cymbal cleaner? Whenever I clean my cymbals, (once a year max) all I do is mix my cymbal cleaning wax with water, say 1 part cleaner, 4-5 parts water. Then I just dab a sheet of paper towel or a soft clean rag and gently wipe the cymbal with it to only get rid of the dust, dirt, grime, and some of the oxides if you want to retain the earthy look. If you polish it, you might be taking off some good bronze material. It won't thin out your cymbal unless you do it over and over but the grooves and lathes might disappear. Just a friendly suggestion.
Don't clean it, patina matures the cymbal's sound. A cymbal ALWAYS sounds better with patina. Anyway, if you must insist on it I would take The Official Jantoy's advice. Thin out the cleaner and don't scrub too hard, because the polish will eat at the bronze and thin out the lathing. This happened to me before when I was stuck in an experimental phase. The lathing grooves on one of my K's drastically fell down in height and brightened the cymbal up, and a high pitched ringing found in heavier cymbals surfaced into the K's crash. It sounded horrible. But in this instance with the Special Dry, i wouldn't even touch a drop of water to it. Leave it as it is. You'll be playing with fire haha :p
EsaelPaggin024 absolutely agree. .. I have the same cymbals (with 3 other rides) .. and I always leave it as they are .. because I'm also mad into every vintage sound, lovin' real authentic jazz sound
EsaelPaggin024 couldnt disagree more. i feel that that the rust spots and oxidation that builds up dulls the sound in the same way novice drummers put tape on their cymbals to dry them out. if you want a sound as close to "right out of the factory" as you can get, keep the oxidation off of them
Holy shit, it sounds like he buries the beater! I've been trying to get myself to stop doing that. But it sounds cool when he does it...maybe I'll leave myself be.
Benjamin D he kind of does a mixture of buried/not buried. I think he plays with a fluffy beater which makes it a bit easier to bury the beater on a kick tuned up high
0:56 - 1:07 have to say thats my ideal jazz drum sound. dry ride, resonant bass, crackin snare...no post recording effects needed
mtndewman1022 Yeah, I love that sort of wholesome bass drum sound, and those crunching-apple hats!
Especially when you got a guy who can make a trash can lid sound better than my $500 ride... :(
I hate when jazz drummers tune the bass hella high like a ton it just sounds like shit
There is something so wonderfully unassuming about his style. Hip as hell, and yet there seems to be no ego or swagger to it. Love it.

If I purchase this cymbal does it come with those drum skills or is that a separate item.
Ha dude🤣
Beautiful sensitive playing Eric! wicked!
Eric Harland is KILLIN IT!!!
tasty... i'd like to hear this guy on a vintage round badge kit with all K istanbuls!
This should be about that Snare sound !!!
I feel like I'm listening to something recorded by van gelder
SKILLS FOR DAYS!! blessings!
I have one of these - my favourite ride. Opens up nicely, but at 2400g weighs less than some I've seen advertised. Check before buying.
Now that's a man that knows how to play a cymbal
wow the master himself in the house
1:42 THAT SWITCH THOOOO!!!
Don't know if there are any UFC fans in here, this guy sounds literally EXACTLY like Jon Jones
Awesome drumming!
they should make this ride cymbal again. it s so different now. the one Eric plays has more control when it is crashed.
are the new ones actually different to those? Because they look the same
Character, Soul, Taste.
How to transform a cymbal test into a tasty song! Great.
The old 21’s are far superior to the new ones imho.
so glad i got an older one in 2015
Totally agree. Got one myself, never getting rid of it !
@@EsaelPaggin024 me too
Interesting configuration he's got there.
Quality!
same with mine.they do vary alot, mine opens up more than the one Eric is playing.
Dudes ALL feel 😭
love it
"Tasty! Tasty, tasty, tasty." Same words I was thinking (Even though I prefer Meinl oops)

That's a very nice ride!
David Curtis Drumming
To be fair he could make a frying pan sound equally good.
"JON 'BONES' JONES on the skins!"
Holy shit

They mean the exact one in the vid if you didn't know.
