Kevin Neal Being a poet myself I am familiar with Robert Burns so when I saw that Nico composed a song based on one of Robert's poems I was interested. When I saw Nico wrote this especially for Angelina to sing I had to listen. This is one of my favorites now
If you listen closely it's really a masterpiece how the words are constructed to the music, it's a 250 yr. poem in an older style English, and I think the author is Scottish. Angela put the words to the music in her own style. I challenge any of today's singers to try this, or for that matter yesterdays singers.
This is one of my favorite songs by Angelina Jordan. And your reaction is great! On another channel there were discussions about whether Angelina can be accused of "misspelling" the poem. Since there is another video with this song, in which the lyrics are shown, the discussion also extended to typos. I'd like to address this right at the beginning: Cartosio decided to take an english translation of the scottish original: Corn Ridges Are Lovely Chorus Corn ridges, and barley ridges, And corn ridges are lovely: I will never forget that happy night, Among the rigdes with Annie. It was upon a Lammas night, When corn ridges are lovely, Beneath the moon's unclouded light, I held away to Annie; The time flew by, with careless heed; Till, between the dark and dawn, With small persuasion she agreed To see me through the barley. The sky was blue, the wind was still, The moon was shining clearly; I set her down, with right good will, Among the ridges of barley: I knew her heart was all my own; I loved her most sincerely; I kissed her over and over again, Among the ridges of barley. I locked her in my fond embrace; Her heart was beating rarely: My blessings on that happy place, Among the ridges of barley. But by the moon and stars so bright, That shone that hour so clearly! She ay shall bless that happy night Among the ridges of barley. I have been blythe with comrades dear; I have been merry drinking; I have been joyful gathering money; I have been happy thinking: But all the pleasures ever I saw, Though three times doubled fairly - That happy night was worth them all, Among the ridges of barley. The scottish original is: Corn Rigs Are Bonie Chorus Corn rigs, an' barley rigs, An' corn rigs are bonie: I'll ne'er forget that happy night, Amang the rigs wi' Annie. 1. It was upon a Lammas night, When corn rigs are bonie, Beneath the moon's unclouded light, I held awa to Annie; The time flew by, wi' tentless heed; Till, 'tween the late and early, Wi' sma' persuasion she agreed To see me thro' the barley. 2. The sky was blue, the wind was still, The moon was shining clearly; I set her down, wi' right good will, Amang the rigs o' barley: I ken't her heart was a' my ain; I lov'd her most sincerely; I kiss'd her owre and owre again, Amang the rigs o' barley. 3. I lock'd her in my fond embrace; Her heart was beating rarely: My blessings on that happy place, Amang the rigs o' barley. But by the moon and stars so bright, That shone that hour so clearly! She ay shall bless that happy night Amang the rigs o' barley. 4. I hae been blythe wi' comrades dear; I hae been merry drinking; I hae been joyfu' gath'rin gear; I hae been happy thinking: But a' the pleasures e'er I saw, Tho' three times doubl'd fairly -- That happy night was worth them a', Amang the rigs o' barley.
Only Angelina can hit those hard notes, because they are tough, soooo on point, so beautifully ♥ Of course not everyone will"get" this old poem. But her voice is outstanding and does it so much justice! She was 12 when she sang this ;)
Another genre tackled successfully by Angelina. What would you call it? What is left I wonder. There’s probably one which she never will attempt, but who knows.
He wonders about the "ridges" of barley. From Wiki: The rigs referred to in the song were the traditional drainage system which was based on dividing fields into ridges around three feet high, and then ploughing then from end to end, the resulting furrows then drained excess water from the land above it, here planted with corn. Hi Mace. This has been an emotional favorite of mine since first hearing it. I'm a long time Angelina fan and have been following your reactions for a while now. I bought both the CD and vinyl album versions. The rest of Nico's album is well worth a listen and thematically flows nicely from the beginning to Angelina's haunting finale. It plays especially well on audiophile quality turntable, vacuum tube amps (phono amp/ pre-amp/power amp) and speakers. Angelina is the most affecting singer I've ever listened to and her life story is truly amazing and uplifting in a very spiritual way. I never go a single day without her. Thanks for posting.
This album released mid 2019, so Angelina was probably late 12/ early 13 when it was recorded. Just one more facet to extraordinary versatility. Especially when compared to the next release after this one (Above the Water). Those two songs alone are the definition of versatility. Both completely different, and both written specifically for her voice.
Nico wrote the song for Angelina-thus the title. It is the only vocal on his album and is the last song. There’s another lyrical video, very beautiful. It also helps to see the lyrics to better understand the old English.
12 was a busy year for Angelina...how she captures the magic of a man and his love having intimate moments in the field of Barley on a Harvest Night is remarkable.
Glad you were won over. I was familiar with the poem so I was intrigued and loved it right away. If Angelina sang the phone book I think I would love it.
Great reaction, I'm glad you came back with Angelina, Mace. This by Nico Cartosio is one of the songs that I love most of Angelina, for me it has a dreamy and romantic musical atmosphere that her voice makes absolutely transcendental, with her soft musical waves that slowly slide around you, it could be the column sound of a day in paradise, the ending with the violin solo is magical ❤️❤️ This is the only song on the entire CD and was deliberately made by Nico for Angelina, chosen to be the only voice present in her entire first "Melting" recording project, the disc was recorded in the Abbey Road studios (that of the Beatles) just over a year ago while Angelina's voice was recorded in New York and then joined to the backing track 😊
Hauntingly beautiful, that's perfect. Ethereal might work also. I have commented to Nico that if he added "ft. Angelina Jordan" to the tag line, his views would go way up. He never replied & never added her name.
“Tibetans believe: there are eight cold hells where souls of sinners will freeze forever after death, - tells Nico Cartosio. - But there are also eight cold hells here, on Earth. And we’re sent there by ourselves. Depression, arrogance, wrath, lack of love - all these things freeze our souls. But even from the bottom of the deepest and the coldest of hells do we hear the music of our hearts still hot”. The composer Nico Cartosio album “Melting” has 8 arrangements that takes the listener through many stages of the human soul from depression to coldness to destruction then hope and freedom. The music is very dark however the last track represent the hope, love, and freedom at the end. Nico Cartosio wanted a vocalist to present his last track and he chose Angelina to deliver it. It’s the only piece of music on the album that is accompanied by a vocalist. The result is a masterpiece. The lyrics of the song are adapted from the 1782 poem Rigs O’Barley (Ridges of Barley in modern English) by Robert Burns. Thank you for your reaction.
great to see you react to one of Angelina's top performances. Song for A is beautiful with her voice and interpretation. I strongly believe many great singers out there wouldn't know what to do with this if given the task. I don't think there will ever be anyone who could top this. It has been on my top 5 Angelina list for sometime. anyway, thanks for great reaction. Other great Angelina's great performances: _nothing breaks like a heart_ (Miley Cyrus cover) ruclips.net/video/fJ9eu7qBiwQ/видео.html _Born to Die_ (Lana del Ray cover) ruclips.net/video/DNU-HcLuO_I/видео.html. _Rehab_ (Amy Winehouse cover) ruclips.net/video/MJnGNtYm24c/видео.html&feature=em-comments fan-made video
I'd really like to see your reaction to Nico Cartosio's official music video for the opening track on this album *_Christmas On The Moon_* ruclips.net/video/Y62THa1YEFg/видео.html It's based on the true story of a childhood friend of Nico's. The music is all instrumental, but the video is a masterpiece. It was nominated for *_Best Narrative_* at the *_Berlin Music Video Awards 2019_* and won the *_Best Music Video_* at *_Fickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival_* Several of his other music videos has also received much praise and prestigious awards around the world. The album was released on April 17, 2019, so probably recorded within a month or two either side of Angelina's 13th birthday. The instrumental part was recorded at the _Abbey Road Studio_ in London and Angelina's vocals added from a studio in LA.

This is Angelina’s purest voice without influences or inflections. It is just her and it is beyond incredible.
👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ Nico Cartosio made this a song for Angelina, and Angelina made this a song for the world.
👏👏👏
12 years old wow, how can she interpret this difficult song so perfectly with such understanding . Amazing. Love her 💝💝💝💝💝

Superb Reaction!!! And then there's Angelina's mastery of voice and mood...loved it!
Robert Burns wrote the poem for Anne Rankine. I like to think that the "A" in "Song For A" stands for both, Angelina and Anne.
This is one of my favorite songs by Angelina Jordan. And your reaction is great!

I didn't really like this one first time I heard it, but each time thereafter it just grew on me, and now I really love it.
And this is the feature of true art.

I don’t think I did fine she was 12 years old when she did this great voice she can sing anything
Most people review the Lyric video of this song and it has many more views. Of course it probably has hundreds of thousands of views by reactors.
it means song for Angelina =) i forgot what the poem is named
The Rigs O`Barley, Robert Burns from 1782. It was before both you and I was born, Tom. I think.
She was 13 I believe.
And Robert Burns wrote this poem about a girl he had an affair with.
Violins 💔😭
Try to convince someone that this is a 12-year old singing this song. Good luck.
I can see why you don`t have many views!
There is currently 346 likes to 0 dislikes so I'm good wit it! Bye!
@@MaceAroundTheWorld I wasn`t about the song. It was amazing.
