    I had a Celica 190 about 18 years ago and I still think it looks modern today in 2020. Engine was great fun although you had to work it hard, and the interior was funky too. I'd rather walk than have the Astra.

    Actually contrary to the description the Astra is turbo, the Celica is NA. I'll take the Celica every day, the Astra engine with it's 60000km cambelt can go in the bin

      Toyota didn't sell many 7th gen Celicas, which is why it was the final version.. but don't go thinking that the reason you see more Astras than Celicas on the road is due to reliability. Toyota makes a superior product, no two ways about it.

    • @SpecializedRider1986
      @SpecializedRider1986 Год назад

      Toyota might be reliable but they're not more reliable than this era of Vauxhall. The two hatches and two Coupes I've owned were bulletproof reliable. The second Coupe I'm on now, the 2.2 is spot on, these Vauxhalls aren't known for any reliability issues at all. @@Holmesson

      @Holmesson Год назад +1

      @@SpecializedRider1986 Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day. I'm sure Vauxhall has plenty of reliable models, but as a whole and for all time, Vauxhall can't compete with Toyota's history of build quality, reliability, and longevity.

    This shape of Celica still looks really sharp! Interior is still pretty cool too in a retro kind of way.
    That VVTLi engine may be peaky but they are also reliable. Old Toyotas last forever if looked after.
    As for the Astra, its quick but I'd get the SRi turbo hatch. Same performance, same drive, more practical.

    Have to disagree !!! Love Rich Hammond and is reviews, it's an overblown Astra with more torrque etc!! But surely the bottom line isn't to put the Astra engine into the Celica!!! Surely with the pin point handling the Ceilca offers, the even lower ride,the no compromise coupe in itself!!! the much more sharp looks and handlng!!Why put a slightly more powerful Astra engine in it? When they both offer 190BHp yet the Celica just 180Nm of Torque against the Astra boost of 250Nm of torque, when surely the pin sharp handling on the Toyata needs nnothing more than a great driver......And surely way more fun letting a slightly less boosted engine wind it's way up! In this pin sharp handling car!

      But it's hard to stay above 6000 rpm to have fun if you're not on a track. therefore .... astra is preferable. Some Auto specialists say that the 192hp is useless compared to the 143hp, because in everyday life we hardly ever drive above 6000 rpm
