    Someone should make some kind of device that lets you bend all six strings at once. Imagine the possibilities!

    Great episode, Zac! I love those Duncan Hot Stack pickups. Back in the ‘80s, I got a Kramer “The Pacer”, a 3-single-coil Strat-style guitar that had a Floyd Rose and a set of Schaller Strat-style pickups that I didn’t like; a white body and a matte-black pickguard with black pickup covers and knobs. Real generic-looking, and I figured that since it needed new pickups anyway, I’d swap out the pickguard too. I got a tortoiseshell pickguard; I’ve always the white-and-tortoiseshell combination on ‘60s FenderJazzmasters and the like. On the recommendation of Seymour Duncan customer service, I got two Vintage Stacks for the front and middle positions and a Hot Stack for rhe bridge position. It came with that maroon cover, and i got a white one for the bridge pickup, and white knobs and switch tip. I had it wired up with “Memphis” wiring-a 3-way switch controlling the front and back pickups with the top volume control, the middle knob was volume for the middle pickup, and the bottom knob was master tone. It sounded great! I used it on a demo session, playing my fake steel parts with a volume pedal into a Randall RG-80 amp with whatever compressor and reverb the studio had-I never did find out what they had! Best recorded sound I’ve ever gotten, using that Duncan Hot Stack. A few people who heard that demo wondered who the steel player was, and I told them, “It ws me!” There wasn’t a steel player on the session-it was all me on guitar, faking it all the way! They used a Beyer 160 ribbon mic on my amp, and put the amp in the bathroom! Worked great. It sounded so good that, about ten or so years later, I had a guitar built with a Fishman Powerbridge, and I used a Duncan Tele Hot Stack, which didn’t sound so good in that guitar; I don’t know why. You win some, you lose some…

    I have an Ibanez Roadstar or Blazer hardtail Strat that has B&G palm paddles on it. One is double stack sprung to have a ledge set at 1/2 step and at a whole step. You don't have feel and finness it around to find the half step. Sneaky Pete Peter Kleinow did that with Fender Stringmaster pedal steels.

    I like single ply pickguards. I think that the strat is just color is just a bit less shiny. I am not sure it is a difference in color but the swamp ash vs alder. Swamp ash is more porous than alder. I think this might give a slight difference in the color presentation as it won't be as smooth. And therefore won't reflect the light as well.

    Cool guitar! I just got to the part where you said it/you still sounds like a tele. I was going to make that comment. It would have been nice to hear it with some drive just for curiosity sake for the pickups. Cheers!

  • @Satchmoeddie
    @Satchmoeddie 19 часов назад

    Out of phase sounds very thin and the buzz increases a whole lot. Technically and electrically they are actually IN phase, but for how they SHOULD be wired they are OUT of phase. Premium top end radio manufacturers and Hollywood grade sound equipment had all kinds of hum cancelling dummy coils that were reverse wound from transformers, inductors and chokes and put into the signal chain to phase cancle any 60 or 120 cycle hum. I'd wager that Seth Lover was well aware of it too.

    • @Satchmoeddie
      @Satchmoeddie 19 часов назад

      And Leo Fender, and Dan from Danelectro and DeLong, and Dopyra and.... They probably saw a dummy coil or two also.

    Whats the story with popularity of Baby Blue color for guitars! Yes it looks grand. Great story. Sounds delish. May I ask if a switch for bridge and neck would be a good idea if you didnt have a matching tele?
