Thank you for sharing. You, Zac Child’s, Rick Beato, Tim Pierce and Jeff McErlain are my constants in a crazy world. I’m 73 years young and you guys speak my language and I can relate. Thanks again.😊
I'm 63. I survived bringing up one child and still have my original first wife! I still have 35 guitars consisting mostly of Gibson, Fender, PRS, Music Man and G&L. Haven't sold any since the late 90's. The feeling of regret never stopped, so I told myself I would not do that anymore. So that's why I have so many. I refer to them as "the wifes" guitars. She can do what she wishes with them. It's so difficult to part with any of them! 😁
That’s the thing… People don’t really regret buying a guitar. If you really regret buying a certain guitar, you can send it back or sell it… But people always seem to regret getting rid of a guitar that they really liked.
First time I've ever heard you play, Keith, for any long period in a video. What a wonderful player you are, and please play more in your videos. If I learned anything at the "Breezin' with the Stars" event in Phoenix, it was to feed your passion of playing guitar and don't care what anyone else says. You have a great gift, and I'm so glad that you've shared it with us today!
If I were you, this is what I'd do: 1) Keep both Collings forever. 2) Shoot out the Tele/Esquire types, keep your favorite. 3) Keep your fav 2 Strandbergs (for now, sell later if you never play them but keep 1 for travel). 4) Shoot out all of the Miras, the LP Deluxe, and Revstar - keep your 3 favs. 5) Sell the Squier, the SG, and anything else that doesn't make the cut. 6) Take the Silver Sky and your funds from selling and go to Ish - shoot out every S type in the store. If the Silver Sky wins, take it back home with the $. If it's something else, buy it and sell the Silver Sky. Right now I just have my Explorer and I put Lollars in my Fender - it's back to Tele configuration with Special T and Royal T. I can do anything I need musically with just those. However, I'm planning on a black Les Paul Custom after I hit some major milestones.
❤. Great video Keith and some very nice guitars. I'll keep my 10 guitars. I've been think about a monster guitar project to build just something different and unusual for this spring. Have a good one and good luck on your sales.
Great show. I tried a Collings I-30 recently , blown away by the tone, ease of play. For years always wondered about the hype and the used prices. I understand now LOL. Thanks for the channel, our experiences/outlook are very similar.
What a fantastic video have a great day Keith and also happy Wednesday from Canada and also fantastic performance also I cleaned inside the couch cushions which is why I had too much stuff
A great channel this one. Followed for sometime now. And I definitely share your passion for guitars. I went with how many guitars do you really need in my journey. But....I'm at the one strat, one tele, one Jazzmaster, one Les Paul, one SG and one hollowbody jazz style guitar again. With a Maton acoustic and a Deering banjo in the mix to keep my fingerstyle in check. Now all Ieed is to have one amp to replace the 3 tube 15w amps and I'd be happy. Still finding the tone which is a journey in itself. Great channel Keith and I bought a tshirt this time. Always look forward to the next instalment. God bless ❤ Damien, Tasmania, Australia 🇦🇺
Missed the live stream but made sure watched the video. Great video by the way. Been trying to saving up for an silver sky to have my first year of college. It will be my first serious guitar. The idea of one guitar to do it all and single pickup guitars I find cool.
Great round-up and yes, please play more often on the channel! The Collings & the Deluxe with Minis are keepers, for sure. I have around 35 guitars (if you include the acoustics, basses and half size models etc.). My first 3 'grab if the house is on fire' still get plenty of use in the studio. My 1968 Les Paul Custom, which I bought in 1974 in NZ for USD 500. My 1980 Roland FGN Blue Strat 'Guitar Controller' that came with the GR 300 Guitar Synth I demoed for Roland NZ back then and my absolute 'go to' for the last 30 years a Roger Sadowsky NYC S Style HSH I bought in 1992 along with his Electric Nylon . . . perfection 😀
The first guitar I played was my dad's '66 strat. He asked me if he could sell it in about '92 and I could get a cheap guitar of my choice. My cheap guitar turned out to be a '68 maple cap tele with a replacement natural ash body. $325. I still own it, though it's in my brother's hands and I haven't even seen it in about 20 years. I started making guitars in '94 and i still own every neck I've made or bought for a project. I've bought and sold many guitars, but it's an amp that haunts me. '67 deluxe reverb. I could easily play three guitars for life. I would go with a tele with a p90 in the neck, a strat with G&L pickups from the 90s, and a tele deluxe with Carvin Holdsworth Humbuckers.
Two inches to the left is how I feel when I play a Firebird. But I love my Mandobird. Always fun to see other people’s collection I plan to come back and watch in more detail
I started at around 60, now down to around 40, and I'm coming to full circle. The ones I'm "keeping" i will eventually gift to my son who also plays. So at my end hopefully they will all be his.
Cheers Keith. 53 years young. First was a £20 nylon with the 1/4” action. Over the years when I had no time to play I bought lots of guitars , when I had the time and no money I cut back to just one, learned my craft and to love that instrument. Now, one USA electric, one USA Dread and a GS mini that goes everywhere. I buy nothing and play hours everyday
Great to see/hear you playing Keith! You played very nice, melodic ideas and I like that a lot. Gives a much better feeling when you hear almost like a little song idea than than just some shredding 🙂 For what it's worth, I haven't sold many guitars and I still have my first one too. However, the older I get, the more OK I am with getting rid of things I don't use. I think that is a great barometer, like you said, if you never play something... it's time to move it along. If you think you're going to really miss something (like maybe the Strandberg) later, I would keep them even if you are not playing them much at the moment. For my two cents, I would probably not have too many that are similar/same.
I still have a Univox Ripper that my parents bought me about 50 years ago. Many mods over the years and I still love it was playing it today though and old Bugera V5 with celestian . It’s so familiar to my hands it feels like home.
Lol, I still own my 1st acoustic and electric. They went to Hawaii with me on the USS Los Angeles SSN-688. They've been 1,000 feet deep. A BC Rich Mockingbird and an Epiphone. I've got 26 now and 27, 28 and 29 are on order.
Spousal Unit pick! Yes! I have done that when purchasing a new guitar. A couple years ago I was looking for (needed) a steel acoustic guitar with a pickup. My wife and I went to a couple GC and finally to Sweetwater. As I tried several guitars she would not look at them only listen. Finally, the "sales engineer" grabs a Martin D-10E off the wall. (I've never been a Martin fan.) I struck a big ole "E" chord and she says, "That's it!" I must say short of a Tele Deluxe I've never bonded so quickly with a guitar as the D-10E. People comment how great it sounds especially other musicians. It's a real working musician's guitar to me.
The Revstar Standard is a guitar that screams quality at a reasonable price, and one of my favorites that I own. I agree about the Prs headstock but just may learn to like it, and the black Mira is a beauty as is the red Prs. Ide love to find a minty used one. Thanks for sharing your amazing collection, Keith.
Hey Keith, I agree about John Mann. I went to his store in Bedford, NH on his day off, Black Friday (I didn’t know) Him and his wife were extremely kind and opened the “Vault” for me. I ended up buying my first PRS a Custom 24 SE. he definitely gets the best stuff, is a very nice guy, and is incredibly talented. I recommend anyone in New England to visit John Mann’s Guitar Vault.
I think most of us spend too much time searching for tones. That said, as a composer, trying to write/record with only one guitar would be extremely limiting. If you want a SRV Strat sound, you really need a Strat. It's more crayons in the crayon box. I used a mandolin on two songs because they needed a mandolin. One guitar is fine for some, but not others.
@@budgetguitarist I guess my point was you don't _need_ an SRV sound, I would suggest it takes a long time just using one guitar to develop one's sound. Aside from that, picking up a strat and expecting to sound like SRV is mostly a dream that has more to do with SRV that his guitar. I would also suggest that "as a composer" someone trying to imitate someone else lacks imagination..... also part of my point.
if you like the finn's and crowded house and haven't done a deep dive, i very much recommend one of my favorite bands, their earily band split endz is great stuff.
I’m 51 and I play since I was 14. At a point I had over 100 guitars. At first I didn’t have money, but when I started working and earning money, I went crazy. Now I have about 25. Do I need that many? No, but the joy of having and playing them is priceless 🤷♂️ And I still have my first guitar, an Aria Pro II, an 335 type from 1988 It just had a full setup from the luthier and I still play it regularly. 😉
Hey Keith, I like lighter guitars as well here. I own a few Les Pauls and also three SG’s. The SG is the one I keep going back to though because it’s light and thin. One of mine also have a set of Riff Raff pickups by Bare Knuckle and I always get compliments about its tone, great stuff no doubt. Thanks for doing all you do man, great show! 🤙
In 2024 I sold 4 EBMM, a US Hamer and a US Fender Telecaster so 6 in total. I purchased 2 Rickenbacker guitars and a Yamaha Silent guitar. I still own my first "real" guitar, a Rickenbacker that now have owned for 27 years.
I'm 62, my first guitar, a 1968 Gibson LGO acoustic was unfortunately stolen over 40 years ago. My second guitar was a blonde 1972 Fender Stratocaster, which I traded to a friend for a 1967 Gibson ES 330 in 1978, which I still own. Great trade for me, it's still my favorite guitar. I have traded or sold a number of guitars over the years, but I still have several other guitars that I've owned for over 40 years - my 1976 Les Paul Deluxe, 1962 ES 175, !983 Squier MIJ Stratocaster, and a Japanese Dauphin classical that got me through my music degree at CSUN. Currently at 15 guitars, 2 basses.
re the white Mira, stacked pots are VERY handy, CTS…Turned my 2 control Revstar into 2 Volumes & a tone control ….the CTS set I found seems to only work with a F Jazz bass knob set, must be other Knobs, I just didn't care and wanted knobs with position lines on them anyway. But for you the black knob set is a good match, only slightly taller than the stock knob
I’m mostly an acoustic player. Bluegrass mostly. Three acoustics in rotation. I’ve also played electric bass since high school, in 72 now. I do have several electrics I rarely play. My first guitar is a Martin 000-18 I bought at age 19, it’s still in active rotation.
I think a collection culling is crucial! What are these guitars but things taking up space if we don’t play them? I sold off my tools (4 decent guitars and amp) to buy fewer higher quality tools last year. Ended up with a FCS 62 Jazzmaster and FCS 59 P Bass. I’ve never played more in my life. Is it psychological due to investment or is it due to the enjoyment of using the best tools that you can afford? Hard to say. I got a BA in philosophy and a personal mantra that ping ponged around my head in our cobwebbed flickering light halls was “you won’t be rich but you’ll know your path” Fast forward 10 years and I’m in a great career with a gracious wife and a smile on my face. Every guitar can be a great guitar. Music is both an art and a business. What tools work for you to express either or both of those? Buy those and keep those.
I still have my first a Epi ES-339. Sounds good but is much heavier than you’d expect from a small semi-hollow. But my wife helped me pick it out so it’s a keeper.
I’m not a headless guy and have never bonded with Strandburg neck shapes so those would go for me. I’ve got about 65 guitars. Maybe a 3rd are vintage. But I do still have the first electric I purchased in 1996 from Sam Ashe an epiphone Sheraton 2. Still have the receipt too
I can’t really advise on particular ones to keep or not because which ones you vibe with in terms of aesthetics, feel, and general “vibe” is going to be significantly different from my personal preferences. So I guess I would say don’t sell any guitar that you’d look back and say “Dang, I wish I still had that one,” whether that be for sentimental or aesthetic or practical reasons. Then go ahead and sell or trade the ones where you really and truly don’t think you’d miss it or start jonesing for another one immediately.
I tried a Strandberg once, not sure I could get used to that neck. It doesn’t suit my playing style, but then some people don’t like necks I like. So it’s cool to have options, obviously they work for somebody.
I have 5 favourites: an SG, a Tele, 2 PRS SE( custom24& Hollowbody) and a Hagstrom D2F with CreamT Afterburner pickups. The others just rest in their cases.
Pretty sure you can't change the pickups on the i-30, as the covers are Lollar specific, based upon the curve needed for the top, and not P90 generic. Throbak has shared this before. I actually just picked up a Mira Soapbar 25th Anniversary last month, will change the electronics before making up my mind on that one. Oh: and the scale is actually 24.5 inch not 24.594, that came later on the McCarty 594. With the 10" scale and slightly slimmer neck it feels quite different compared to anything else (Gibson LP Special or 25inch PRS etc).
The SG forever. I know its weird the way the neck seems to go forever to the left. Just takes time to get used to. Its nice and light and almost sounds like a LP without the weight. I have about 21 guitrs in my collection but the SG is the one I pickup the most. I bought my first and second SG before the Pandemic . Bought them both used for $650. The second SG is not in perfect condition. But I play it the most because of that. Dont have to worry about Scratch’s or dents anymore. The other is in perfect condition.
Based on your enthusiasm, the Mira Xs, Les Paul Deluxe, Collingses(?), and while I can't dig the Strandbergs' looks, I could see holding onto your favorite of the three, simply for ease of playing (as someone with mild arthritis, I'm tempted to check one out myself to keep around for the achier days). I love that gold Tele but they do tend to be all over the place, weight-wise. That's about the only thing with those guitars you can't really improve. The SG is a guitar I wanted to like but I just hate the design from a feel standpoint. I had a really nice '71 Special with mini HBs for about a year. It had that perfect rock and roll crunch sound (I also liked Marshalls back then, which helped) but just could not bond with it. I'm also 6'3" and 220 - it felt and looked like a toy in my hands. I'm no Angus Young (in any respect haha). I picked up a Revstar in a shop and sometimes your body just tells you "no" immediately. That was my experience, and I'm not even sure what it was about it - it was just an instinct thing (and I was very predisposed to liking it given the widespread enthusiasm for that line). I don't know that I agree that guitars take two months to reveal themselves. Every time I've tried to let a guitar grow on me, it never did. I either loved it instantly or not at all. Maybe that's just me. I have had a few that I liked initially but ended up being abandoned in a few months. Personally, I always come back to Fender-style guitars. Most of my years as a beginning/intermediate player were spent with my second electric/the first one I really wanted: a 1993 sunburst MIM Strat (my heroes back then were McCready, Frusciante, and, of course, Hendrix), so they just feel like home and I am currently favoring my MJT S-style partscaster. I feel like I play better with it - maybe its familiarity/muscle memory from ages ago, but my leads always seem a little smoother and more expressive on that guitar. I feel less inhibited with it. When I'm in more of a rhythm mode, Teles bring out something in their own right (hybrid picking in particular). I'm not advocating for you to go full-on Fender, but if you have guitars that inspire that feeling in you, I think that's a pretty good indicator that they're keepers (I'm guessing for you, it's the Mira Xs).
If you really like P90s, I think the Focus switch makes a lot more sense on the P90 version of the Revstar. I got one of the sunset burst ones and it sounds great. Not sure about the weight tho, don't have a working scale at the moment. It also gives you that SG=ish shape too if you're looking to cover that at the same time. My first guitar was a US made Peavey Predator back in '94 but it got stolen. When my stepdad bought me a MIJ Jazzmaster in 98, the neck was definitely thicker and there would be some things I would try and play and not feel right, but that Peavey it felt right. Since it was stolen, I think my favorite necks have been a Casino and my Squier Duo Sonic. I've owned a bunch of guitars over the years but have never had a humbucker oddly enough. Bunch of Fender/Squier offsets, a Danelectro baritone, Epi LP Special in TV Yellow, the Casino, and now the Revstar. Don't won the Casino anymore and my 16 yo wants to re-buy one for me and that's amazing, so when she is working again who am I to say no? :)
Sell: All Strandbergs, the Revstar, the Squiers, the Silver Sky SE, the Japanese tele, one of the Mira’s. Probably the Collings City Limits too. That’s a good start and makes room for a Nacho tele.
Great rundown of your current list. If it was my collection… I would sell the Collings, the SG, 2 of the Strandbergs, and the Strat I would keep the Silver Sky, 1 of the Miras, and definitely the Deluxe. With the cash I would pickup a PRS HB Standard and a Strummer Tele
First time hearing you play, sounds very nice! You should definitely play in your videos. As for the guitars that should stay. Seems like you really gravitate towards P-90s and Mira Xs, id keep your favorite 2 P90 guitars, and something with humbuckers (probably one of the mira's, or the deluxe with mini humbuckers) My mantra for guitars is the 6 guitar rule. #1&2 electric, #1&2 acoustic, a bass and a wild card. And guitars that hold sentimental value dont count.
I love that Collings with the p90s. P90s do everything humbuckers do and one thing they don't: sparkle. The entire range of the volume and tone knobs is useful. If you gain up your amp and roll the volume down halfway you're in Telecaster territory. Super versatile. I'll never part with my LP Special wrap tail but it's not the most ergonomic for me with regard to playing position. I'm at home on a Telecaster. Next on my list is a Tele with p90s for that reason.
I just played one of those Stranberg Salient (spelling?) and I felt like I was driving a sports car. Conversely, my favorite guitar, a Telecaster, feels like driving my 2005 Mustang with manual transmission. Fun, but it takes more work.
I can only answer your 'which to keep' question from my perspective (of course!): I'd keep one of the LP Deluxes, and if it's worth less than a CS version, I'd knock a chunk out of the neck heel. I've never tried the others, am esp. intrigued by Yamaha.
What to keep and what to get rid of: - sell one Collings - sell all PRS but one -buy custom shop 60s (preloaded pickguard) strat pickups for the Squire -buy 2 thinline telecasters with 52 nocaster pickups and set up one of them with a baritone neck. My opinions
Keith i would love for you to check out my song. My 1st release actually. Features the amazing Brian Steele on Guitar. Just search Evalonious "El Rey" and your find it. ❤️🎸🏁
Keith the reason you have so much is you like a lot of different guitars your taste are wide which is awesome but people like myself are pretty picky so my collection will always be small plus I only like one of things I don’t see the need for two of the same type of guitar 🎸 it’s a great discussion
I made my Revstar do a Les Paul thing, change the PU's & you will play it more! mine weighs 8.2, but yours is the newer bigger (body) chambered version, about the same weight as the 2016 version, interesting! I bought mine for 2 reasons Carlos S. history with Yamaha, and in 2016 it had a wrap tail bridge, like the '66SG Jr. that was my main guitar at the time, 2 years of mods later, the Revstar is now very hard to put down!, only part that's stock are the pegs. My SG sits in its case, along with the one PU Carvin, that's just not my sound anymore
Sitting down is why Strandbergs are interesting to me, I only stand to play, but being tall with long arms, I’m not really sure it will help, I bought the Amazon clone to try a cheaper way, ash with the burl top, direct mount PU’s they actually sound great, and I almost always change our to SD’s so I like it😊 But the only way to tune it is with an Allen key🙄 The bridge at least has brass rollers
I think my "collection" is thin enough already, I only have 4- 2 don't work right now, 1 works but needs a setup desperately (Ibanez), and one is setup and playing great, my PRS. That said, I'm taking the Ibanez in tomorrow to have it setup, so I'll have it back soon. And my CV Strat just needs a volume pot replaced, I already have it, in fact I bought a solderless assembly that replaces all the pots, the 5-way switch, and the input jack. I just need to install it, and it should be fixed. That just leaves my Epi Les Paul- which needs a major overhaul. I bought it back in the early 20o0s, made in Indonesia, has the highly figured maple front cap on it, mahogany back and neck, binding all the way around, ebony fret board- it was their top-of-the-line model when I bought it. But it needs new pups, new switch, new pots, new bridge, new input jack, new nut, and better tuners, and a setup. I could live with just new pups, switch, pots, and input jack- but while I'm at it, might as well get the rest done as well.
im down to 3 (1 is a lap and 2 amps) i'd like a third down the road but i don't know what but less is more is treating me right , right now. im a working and gigging musician and i was tired of too much stuff
I’ve done all this before…. buying Guitar after guitar moddingchasing tone. Gotta have a humbucker gotta have a single coil got to have a P90 gonna have a semi gotta have a solid gotta have this gotta have that until it came to the point where I didn’t even know what I liked and it was getting in the way of my playing-now I’ve sold all of them apart from my McCartney Texan acoustic and my 56 reissue Stratocaster and that’s all I need. you appreciate them so much more when you have less❤
From Leo: Some would say I have too many. I try to go through them thinking about which one I have not played in a long time. After playing it a little, and remembering why I liked it in the first place. Then it gets put on the "do not sell list". Barb will have to sell them after I die.
Keep both Collings and the Deluxe, forever, also the Squire, your Paisley Tele, and a couple of your Mira’s, sell the rest. You’d have it all covered. You could always thin the Mira herd further down the road if desired…
PeachGuitars sells Collings. Usually around £7k give or take depending on the model. Peach is the kind of store you book a trip in advance listing all The gear you’d like to try with the staff before you visit. Frustratingly they no longer operate like an old fashioned footfall store following COVID.
My first electric guitar was a 7 string, so I'll always have an excuse to keep it cause it's my only 7 string (helps that it's a great all-around instrument though)
Ltd ec401-with dimarzio 36th pafs alnico 5s(400 dollar les paul standard alternative my favorite. in c-e standard) Squier affinity strat with boden classic singles and dimarzio 59 paf alnico 5 in bridge(120 for great vintage tones in standard) First act garagemaster with its great stock alnico 5s (100 for great drop b/a 25.5 scale goodness)
I’d get rid of that yucky les Paul deluxe. It’s worthless but I’d pay the shipping to my house and save your shoulder the stress of tossing it in a dumpster. I’m a first guitar club guy-from 20 years old to 55 it’s still my #1. Great playing!
Ive been looking for a Brad Paisley Tele for a reasonable price lately. Those are supposed to be real light because of the wood they are made of. Spruce and Paulownia .
I feel like every guitarist needs at least the following on their collection: 1) A Strat 2) A Tele 3) A Super Strat (SSH) 4) A Les Paul / SG / or other twin humbucker guitar 5) An ES-335 6) A P90 equipped guitar 7) A steel string acoustic That will cover almost any tone you’ll likely ever need.
I’m 55 and I would probably keep the guitars I got as a teenager and pre teen. Les Paul Copy, early 60s Danelectro 4021, ‘67 Telecaster, and a ‘74 factory LP Standard, probably a ‘64 SG Jr I bought in my 20s. There are another 45 guitars in my house though. Oh! I have a few Kolls I would want to keep, and a ‘67 Riviera, and this paddle game, pen set, and this chair, I need this chair, and my dog, maybe I don’t need my dog
I was half an hour behind watching the live so I didn't comment. Keepers for me would be the Deluxe, those PRS DC's look gorgeous(I've never played a PRS) and weirdly maybe, I think that Revstar looks fantastic, I'd struggle to part with those. The SG would bring you a pretty-penny for sure, never been keen on the Bigsby type Gibson bridges and I would easily trade on that to replace it with a stop-bar model. Finally, and this is a purely ignorant judgement based on looks alone, I'm sure they all play beautifully, those headless Strandbergs, damn, they are pig-ugly, just take an axe or other sharp object to those. I joke, of course, they're just really not for me. ;) Good luck! They're all really great bits of wood, I'd hate to have to make that decision myself. I just know what I would keep for sure. Oh, the ES style hollow with the P90's. That's a keeper, too.
Unless there is something super special you want to buy, don't get rid of any of them you are showing. I don't sell any of my collection. The SG is really great.
Thank you for sharing. You, Zac Child’s, Rick Beato, Tim Pierce and Jeff McErlain are my constants in a crazy world. I’m 73 years young and you guys speak my language and I can relate. Thanks again.😊
Spectacular playing brother. First time i get to see you play. You're awesome!! Thanks.
I get this, I feel the same way....I love gear that's just how it is... :p I trade some gear for new stuff .
Oh geez what the hell?
If I were you, this is what I'd do:
1) Keep both Collings forever.
Good plan Jake. It would be less…to be sure.
It was really nice to hear you playing. Please do it more often.
Missed the live stream but made sure watched the video. Great video by the way. Been trying to saving up for an silver sky to have my first year of college. It will be my first serious guitar. The idea of one guitar to do it all and single pickup guitars I find cool.
I'm 73. At 9 years, parents bot me a gibson melody maker. Still own it. Memories.
That’s excellent
I still have my first electric, a Korean Epi Les Paul. It was a Christmas present from my wife so it ain’t going nowhere.
Always fun to see other people’s collection
I plan to come back and watch in more detail
Beautiful version of Shanidoa Keith.
You really play with lots of feeling.
✝️🙏❤️
well it’s about time I got to hear you play
I started at around 60, now down to around 40, and I'm coming to full circle. The ones I'm "keeping" i will eventually gift to my son who also plays. So at my end hopefully they will all be his.
Direct to jack setting, V nice. I rewired my strat to go straight neck to jack, tone for the bridge only, is such a crisp sound. :)
First time seeing you play and it was amazing!
Great to see/hear you playing Keith! You played very nice, melodic ideas and I like that a lot. Gives a much better feeling when you hear almost like a little song idea than than just some shredding 🙂
For what it's worth, I haven't sold many guitars and I still have my first one too.
SOUNDS GREAT KEITH.
Man you have such a unique collection!
sometimes finding _that sound_ gets in the way of creating my sound. One guitar is enough.
As long as it’s a Telecaster👍🏻
@@TucoDog-ho6fw I agree
I think most of us spend too much time searching for tones. That said, as a composer, trying to write/record with only one guitar would be extremely limiting. If you want a SRV Strat sound, you really need a Strat. It's more crayons in the crayon box. I used a mandolin on two songs because they needed a mandolin. One guitar is fine for some, but not others.
Exactly @@budgetguitarist
@@budgetguitarist I guess my point was you don't _need_ an SRV sound, I would suggest it takes a long time just using one guitar to develop one's sound. Aside from that, picking up a strat and expecting to sound like SRV is mostly a dream that has more to do with SRV that his guitar. I would also suggest that "as a composer" someone trying to imitate someone else lacks imagination..... also part of my point.
I missed the live stream. Glad to see the replay.
if you like the finn's and crowded house and haven't done a deep dive, i very much recommend one of my favorite bands, their earily band split endz is great stuff.
Story idea, the short history of Seymour Pickups , Thanks
I’m 51 and I play since I was 14. At a point I had over 100 guitars. At first I didn’t have money, but when I started working and earning money, I went crazy. Now I have about 25. Do I need that many? No, but the joy of having and playing them is priceless 🤷♂️
And I still have my first guitar, an Aria Pro II, an 335 type from 1988
It just had a full setup from the luthier and I still play it regularly. 😉
Hey Keith,
I like lighter guitars as well here.
Thank you Keith
The Collings OMG. Beautiful looking and sounding
Thanks for the mention on Stone Temple Pilots, just checked out a few clips ,,they sound great ..never caught that band before 🙂
I’d keep the 2 Collings .. the rest can go .. those 2 are keepers
Still have the receipt too
One guitar that may be “missing” is a nylon string. Would you ever consider trying out something like a Godin Multiac?
This wasn’t the four acoustics. There’s a nylon in that group.
Love my K-Line Springfield! I'm a friend of Chris, and he builds great guitars!
Fun video, thanks.
Sell: All Strandbergs, the Revstar, the Squiers, the Silver Sky SE, the Japanese tele, one of the Mira’s. Probably the Collings City Limits too. That’s a good start and makes room for a Nacho tele.
Great rundown of your current list.
If it was my collection…
I would sell the Collings, the SG, 2 of the Strandbergs, and the Strat
I would keep the Silver Sky, 1 of the Miras, and definitely the Deluxe.
With the cash I would pickup a PRS HB Standard and a Strummer Tele
First time hearing you play, sounds very nice! You should definitely play in your videos.
As for the guitars that should stay.
Seems like you really gravitate towards P-90s and Mira Xs, id keep your favorite 2 P90 guitars, and something with humbuckers (probably one of the mira's, or the deluxe with mini humbuckers)
My mantra for guitars is the 6 guitar rule.
Next on my list is a Tele with p90s for that reason.
nice collection brother!
i might need to go thru mine and sell a few myself lol!
What to keep and what to get rid of:
- sell one Collings
- sell all PRS but one
-buy custom shop 60s (preloaded pickguard) strat pickups for the Squire
-buy 2 thinline telecasters with 52 nocaster pickups and set up one of them with a baritone neck.
Play on your channel more! Super tasty musical playing. I wish more people did that on here lol
Sitting down is why Strandbergs are interesting to me, I only stand to play, but being tall with long arms, I’m not really sure it will help, I bought the Amazon clone to try a cheaper way, ash with the burl top, direct mount PU’s they actually sound great, and I almost always change our to SD’s so I like it😊
But the only way to tune it is with an Allen key🙄
The bridge at least has brass rollers
I feel similarly about Silver Sky headstocks. I prefer the Fender shape and inline pegs. I don't think it's better; I just like it.
From Leo: Some would say I have too many. I try to go through them thinking about which one I have not played in a long time. After playing it a little, and remembering why I liked it in the first place. Then it gets put on the "do not sell list". Barb will have to sell them after I die.
I always say, if you're planning to sell a guitar, the last thing you should do is play it first.
Keep both Collings and the Deluxe, forever, also the Squire, your Paisley Tele, and a couple of your Mira’s, sell the rest. You’d have it all covered. You could always thin the Mira herd further down the road if desired…
Just curious, is the SG Gibson USA ot Epiphone?
US, a production guitar used it was about $2100 I think.
Would keep the 2 Collings & the Miras with the Ron Ellis pickups
I don’t think there are any Collings in the UK, so my question is “Are they really that much better than Gibson Custom Shop Les Pauls?”
Depends on what you’re looking for, but the wood and finishing are unmatched.
PeachGuitars sells Collings. Usually around £7k give or take depending on the model. Peach is the kind of store you book a trip in advance listing all
The gear you’d like to try with the staff before you visit. Frustratingly they no longer operate like an old fashioned footfall store following COVID.
@@djt6546I drove 80 miles to visit the shop and they wouldn’t let me in. Never going back!
That red Strandberg is beautiful. I’d hate to see that go.
My first electric guitar was a 7 string, so I'll always have an excuse to keep it cause it's my only 7 string (helps that it's a great all-around instrument though)
Ltd ec401-with dimarzio 36th pafs alnico 5s(400 dollar les paul standard alternative my favorite. in c-e standard)
Squier affinity strat with boden classic singles and dimarzio 59 paf alnico 5 in bridge(120 for great vintage tones in standard)
First act garagemaster with its great stock alnico 5s (100 for great drop b/a 25.5 scale goodness)
Keep the Gibsons and the Collings. The Squire and the Strat. The Tele you have coming. The rest can go. Enjoy this content immensely.
I’d get rid of that yucky les Paul deluxe. It’s worthless but I’d pay the shipping to my house and save your shoulder the stress of tossing it in a dumpster. I’m a first guitar club guy-from 20 years old to 55 it’s still my #1. Great playing!
How many guitars do you have?
Lyle Lovit ? Is that who you're refering to Keith ?
Lyle from Psionic Audio
Ive been looking for a Brad Paisley Tele for a reasonable price lately. Those are supposed to be real light because of the wood they are made of. Spruce and Paulownia .
I would keep the hollow body Collins, the red PRS, the Gibsons and the Fenders. Everything else would go if it was my call 😊
I would keep the Les Paul, the Collings, keep the PRS sunburst, 1 Strat and 1 Tele
I can see why you purchased them but I would sell them all and get either an old 335 or a custom shop 335.
Love the SG, Esquire , Telecaster and Squire Stratocaster.
Unless there are repeated models and maker, I'd be inclined to keep the lot.
Gosh no matter Jon Cordy plays it always sounds like him/Eric Johnson and it’s fantastic
Enough is what you enjoy playing and are comfortable buying.
I feel like every guitarist needs at least the following on their collection:
1) A Strat
2) A Tele
3) A Super Strat (SSH)
4) A Les Paul / SG / or other twin humbucker guitar
5) An ES-335
6) A P90 equipped guitar
7) A steel string acoustic
That will cover almost any tone you’ll likely ever need.
And this ashtray
@ I’m gonna miss the stuff!
@ oh good, I’m not alone
omg he plays too! yes!
I joke, of course, they're just really not for me. ;)
Good luck! They're all really great bits of wood, I'd hate to have to make that decision myself. I just know what I would keep for sure. Oh, the ES style hollow with the P90's. That's a keeper, too.
I have a smaller but not small pile of guitars. I want to try all of yours, but I don't want to own them. My itchy brain wants what I have.
Unless there is something super special you want to buy, don't get rid of any of them you are showing. I don't sell any of my collection. The SG is really great.
Where's the ES-390 ???
I sold them both two years ago in the big purge that led me to the Collings.
