Darn, I loved this show when I was a kid and had a day off school for being sick. I was a car fanatic then and still am couldn't wait to see if the car started.
I loved this version of "Split Second" also! The breakapart stage was absolute genius - sets like that aren't designed or featured on game shows now, anymore.
I love Price is Right and Pyramid, but this one is still in my top 3. It was an amazing fast paced show and I remember turning my grandfather onto it. He only liked Jeopardy (with Art Fleming). I showed him Split Second and he loved it.
I hear this was another one of those shows that unfortunately what most of its tapings erased. If that's true, that's also very tragic because with the Stefan Hatos/Monty Hall shows owned by Fremantle, this would be the perfect show for Buzzr. Not to mention I prefer this over the short lived 1987 version with Monty Hall.
Honestly, the 1987 Monty Hall's version is just lame, despite Monty Hall's great hosting. This version has a better set and theme song, a better format and bonus round, and Tom Kennedy is a better host of the two. R.I.P. both men.
The orginal poster explained the unfortunate story of not being able to play these in color, how they originally aired. Color tape players these days are hard to find apparently.
@@samturner64 Which is no problem with me-- this is TV game show history as presented on RUclips, and if it was between B/W as this is or nothing, I'd gladly enjoy the B/W.
There is a story from Split Second that while the winning car started, one day a car was chosen that started smoking, the coil was not totally disconnected. The contestant that day won that car(I'm assuming it ran fine in real time).

Stay tuned for All My Children Next On ABC

Who wants to see this show get another chance?
GSN is developing a reboot.
I want to see a lot of shows get another chance.

GSN just taped a reboot with John Michael Higgins hosting. Set to air April 2023.
@@bainsey89 What about America Says? What happened to that show?
The only thing I hated about the 1970s version: two words: Bob Synes. That's all I gotta say.
The cars were the best part of this show!
Just Men (1983) and Hollywood Squares (1986-1989) used the same five car setup.
surprised that by 1972 shows were still black and white.

Im just glad it exists. Too many awesome shows were destroyed
They were color to begin with. This was taped on a primitive VCR.
