hey so I went to your other video and installed Java but the icon didn't show up in system preferences which is something that probably happened because of a new update or something, but java still showed up as downloaded in terminal. However, now I'm not sure how to open up the java control panel, but is that necesary to download itellij IDEA?

at 6:18 I see intellij opening, which is not happening in my case. I see nothing. Nothing in the background. Absolutely nothing. No luck with re-install intellij, re-starting mac. Anyone any idea?

Where is the Java JDK location on macOS?
cd /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines
It depends on where you download it! It likely defaulted to a Java folder in your library -- that's what happened with mine.
