    • @angel_cat
      @angel_cat Месяц назад +26

      Yes, but it could still be a lawsuit in the setting that the nurse is telling her about this. She is the patient's wife so technically, without HIPAA, it's a given that she can know, but to discuss it in a public setting where anyone else might hear is still break patient-doctor confidentiality which did exist back then although less stricter than HIPAA (considering that she practices as a nurse of her husband's and has access to her husband's patients' files). Also, yes, it is HIPAA, not HIPPA

Some were put in isolation rooms and we had to wipe off everything in the room with a diluted bleach solution. Talk about a headache for all. Then research improvements made patient care better for everyone. However in 1990's I worked with a nurse that had a partner who developed aids bc she said he abused drugs via needles in his past and now clean & sober this happened. She was up front about him since his admission & care he needed..but they fired her a few months later.

    Weirdly irl she couldn't tell smthing like that
    Even now knowing aids is def not tied to homossexuals and its out there both in men and women ppl are not required to disclose this information, it falls under their right to "not be seen or looked at diferently in society". Personally i disagree a little, especially since its not only trasmited sexually but troight open wounds. My mother worked in prisional services for a while and ill never forget when she told me one of the inmates told her he just found out he had it and couldn't wait for the next intimate visit from his wife so he could "drop the crab on her". She was absolutely disgusted but she rly couldn't say anything to the wife as it wouldve cost her job. Some ppl are sick like SICK and i wouldn't be surprised if someone was actively spreading comtaminated blood onto others just so they could share the suffering. So always protect yourself

    If he was a homosexual then there would be no real concern for her health. However back then many straight people were much less familiar with the concept of bisexuality.
    There was also a lot of ignorance of the facts regarding how HIV was passed on so it created paranoia.

    I can see it both ways, trying to be nice, from one woman to another type thing, and also can see it as her doing it to be rude. However, i will say the actress does a good job of showing empathy and sympathy with her eyes. I dont think it was done in a malicious manner.

    I used to live near a gay sauna and would often see men coming and going in work attire. Sometimes I would wonder how many of them had wives and girlfriends at home who had no idea of their evening plans, or that they were having casual relations with other men at the sauna. If one of those men decided to come out, his life wouldn’t be over, even if his marriage was. But in the 1980s, coming out as gay was a blemish on your character and you could risk your job. So little was known about HIV other than the stigma that it was a gay man’s disease and a father sentence. Most wives wouldn’t have known their husbands were gay either. Under the circumstances, the nurse did the right thing. By the time Carl had gone to see his physician, his HIV had turned into AIDS, and if he was still physical with his wife, she’d almost certainly have contracted it. I’m glad science and society have moved on now.
