    Part 5: • Rashard Mendenhall on ...
    Part 7: • Rashard Mendenhall: Dw...
    --------
    Rashard Mendenhall reflected on his career choices, stating he is proud of his younger self for having the courage to assert his worth to his team, even if it meant refusing to play. Mendenhall held a firm stance on his value as a professional in the billion-dollar industry and would make the same choices if he had to do it again. Discussing the torn ACL he endured at the end of the 2011 season, Mendenhall explained how treatment and training improvements changed this kind of injury from being career-ending. Although Mendenhall's contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers could have been renewed, they decided to separate, and Mendenhall signed with the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent instead. Mendenhall also discussed his financial success, pointing out that he played his five-year contract for every cent of the $12.5 million he was guaranteed.

    Rashard Mendenhall is a cautionary tale when looking at the state of the RB position. He was pretty solid for the Steelers from 2009-2011 before the ACL tear but after he got hurt it was a pretty much a wrap for his career. Once you get hurt at that position and they find someone to replace you it's real hard to get your spot back as the #1 guy.

    I remember seeing a chart displayed on nfl countdown back in the late 2000s, as I was in my late teens, early 20s. The chart showed the trajectory of an NFL RB after 28 and the stats were mind blowing. I couldn’t wrap my head around how the drop off happened so immediately. Now at 36, I totally get it. I even believe now too, the emotional toll the game takes on you too. If you’re drafted at 21-22, 7-8 season at the running back position, pushing 28-29, your prime years have come and went. Wide receivers I’d venture to say peak in their late 20s, can carry on but most by 31-32, are on their way out. Makes me think back to how special somebody like TO was.

    Not sure where Vlad gets his info. He said that he looked up the oldest NFL player ever and their age was 42. Nah Vlad you're wrong,Tom Brady retired at 44 yrs old. Tom Brady still wasn't the oldest ever though,George Blanda played until he was 48 yrs old,he retired in 1976.

    First running back I thought about who is in the same boat present day is Saquon Barkley. Looked up his age and lo and behold he is 26 too. Not over the hill, has some juice left but also has tread on the tire. Giants probably won’t resign him.

    • @okgotit4103
      @okgotit4103 7 месяцев назад +1

      I don't think modern running backs take the punishment of those older running backs when Rashard played. Recoveries and sports medicine is also at an all time high and have grown since the days he played. But in the sense that Barkley has an injury history people may look at, and judge you may he right. Also the giants aren't any good. Could see another team giving him a shot. But it is hard to stay the number one guy once team changes start happening

    • @TheTillmanSneakerReview
      @TheTillmanSneakerReview 7 месяцев назад

      @@okgotit4103@okgotit4103 RBs are injured more often because they are less protected since the emergence of the single back formations. Also, RB's are expected to be short yard receivers, exposing them to other conditions for injuries. However, RB's are less utilized in this pass-heavy era where all QB's are mobile. In many situations, QB's are the #2 RB's.
