Thank you to everyone who noticed the mistake with the titles! We have now corrected it. We hope you will enjoy it and like this video!
Completely false title: THIS VIDEO is about engineering history and current sea level challenges NOT tourism.
Much better then
Completely correct
Title should have stopped with “Venice in Crisis”
It’s great they have stopped the cruise ships going into the Lagoon, because it was definitely causing issues that Venice didn’t need!
Agreed...but the Title has probably encouraged MANY MORE viewers to watch thus piece of Historical Work..a superb Film.. dgp/uk
Great video. I have been to Venice many times and it is unbelievable. Even with all the tourists and problems. The most interesting city in the world.
It's absolutely astonishing and brilliant what humans can do. It just proves that the world CAN BE a beautiful place if we all do our part to help one another. Thank you for this video.
The title is completely an accurate - - this is inexcusable carelessness. The program is about water rise.
Did you mean inaccurate?
@@jilllangman9343 yup.
Do you not have a life? Take it easy.
@@ChrisSmith-xh6ip he might have left a word out which would have given a completely different meaning. If people want to express their thoughts and say what they dont mean, it’s confusing. I enjoy richness of languages and am interested in others’ opinions. I enjoy specificity.
If anything the title undersells how interesting it is and how fascinating the history parts are. Most of which I knew but I had misunderstood a few things.
If Poland can say no to every single illegal migrant, surely Venice has the balls to say no to motorboats.
The canals in Venice are also used by the locals for many reasons to support the city. The roads are very narrow and 6 months a year filled with people.
Not to mention cruise ships!
Very good, informative piece. Too bad you cheapened it by turning it into click bait with the misleading title. How can I subscribe when I can't expect your videos to be about what they say they're about?
Yes. One have to get the Sam vintern said in titel later in video. I did also like the video But the producer must learn to make Correct titel
I love Venice, unfortunately it has changed a lot by overly visiting tourists. But in the same time tourism brings a lot of jobs & money. So it's kind of paradox 🤔
Brilliant documentary. I learnt a lot and that is always a positive thing.
Thank you for your interest !
As the Dutch say, “The water always wins.”
The tower in St MARKS Square did collapse years ago. So it isn't exactly perfect.
This is the most extraordinary program. Excellent
Thank you so much !
The Mose' project seems to work when it is called up, but unfortunately a very accurate crystal ball is required to foretell when deployment is going to be needed The barriers cannot be deployed quickly, it takes time, so one needs considerable notice. The Mose' has failed once to protect Venice, because of this problem, unexpected high water! Also I am told the orders to deploy don't come from Venice, but from Rome. The cost of deployment is fantastic, so one can understand they need to be sure it is going to be necessary, on the other hand not deploying can lead to disaster! I have also been told that the daily cost of keeping the Mose' barrier in working order, free of crustaceans and such is astronomical. I put my bet on the water table.
Clickbait titles are so dishonest. Even if it’s for a good cause Please cease this trend 🤦♀️
The idiots (industry) who worsened the situation because of greed should solve and pay for it! And the idiots who allowed them to build next to Venice. Why there? Italy has so much coast. Unbelievable!
The very first sentence in this presentation is inaccurate. A thousand years ago there was no "Italy". Since this video was originally meant to teach the history of Venice and the surrounding area what better opportunity to teach that this is the location that would one day be known by you and me as "Italy".
What a precious artefact of exquisite human ingenuity and aesthetics. Our North American cities’ architecture is sadly lacking in beauty.
And the flooding solution though ingenious was designed about 20 years ago and will over top because sea levels are rising much faster than they calculated for.
BREAKS YOUR HEART.....SO BEAUTIFUL, ❤
Actually British who invented the world tidal flow chart to an exact science have noticed fluctuations for the last 200 years, the tides are dependant on large planets when they get closer in their orbit
In south Louisiana most structures today are built on pilings - with some old raised structures - they dug down several feet to the clay beds, and placed cotton ball down and set brick pillars on the bails of cotton to set a structure on -
All the old buildings in the french quarter in new Orleans set on cotton bails -
The cotton bails go down 6 to 12 feet and set on clay for a footing so the structures don't sink -
All homes and buildings in. New Orleans are built on pilings today. -nothing in the french quarter was built higher than 3 storys also because of weight -
maybe the French took inspiration from Venetian engineering
This video is very interesting But it wasnt about turism! Except mention the boats and ships impact in short. The cruisar is not allowed to get in anymore. And most motorboats Belong to the those that work and live there. Young people likes to go fast in them too.
The Dutch are famous for their water architecture, but the Italians can do something about it too. Deep respect and greatest admiration for the Italians, not only for the architects, but for everyone who contributed.
Too many tourists is the reason why I would never want to visit Venice. If it was a quiet place, then maybe.
Maybe single hull boats in the canals make larger waves, maybe try the duel hull catermaran made in Tasmania, Australia, they may make smaller waves
Well done!
music is too loud
Elephant in the room Motorized boats! No one is stopping this but no cruise ships anymore so WHYYYYY???🤷♀️🤨🤦♀️
@@lindabuck2777 because a cruise ship hit the dock and insurance companies probably wont pay out. Too many people’s incomes depend. on the motorized boats.
@@jilllangman9343 that figures. It’s always about money and the slice of pie gets smaller. 🤔🙏🏻
This is amazing !
Thank you !
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plains?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Now I know why my Italian grandfather moved to South of Brazil
And then the south of Brasil experienced record breaking catastrophic flooding in 2024 that lasted for weeks on end.
There's no escaping the environmental calamities of global warming and sea level rise anywhere humans occupy low lying terrain.
What would be nice is if Venice can find a way to eliminate the sewage-like smell that comes from the canals, from probably old sewage lines going into them and stagnant water.
SPPMER PR ÑATER NATURE WILL ALWAYS TRIUMPH OVER HUMAN AVOIDANCE OF NATURE. MANY CITIES AND MONUMENTS HAVE DISSAPPEARED TO THE RABAGES OF WEATHER, TIME, SIND ND WATER. IT IS VERY SAD AS VENEZIA IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CONSTRUCTS OF MAN.
2 minutes into the video I was interrupted by almost 7 minutes of advertisement, then after 5 minutes of video I was interrupted with almost 5 minutes of advertisement. Would love to see the video, but not like this. Not when RUclips makes 5 minutes of video turn into 17 minutes, including ads. And if RUclips wasn't using means like this to attract paying customers I would love to pay for their services. Hopefully content creators can have a chat with RUclips, when clicks and views start to go down. Good luck, keep making great content!
BS title. Clickbait
It is said that the building of Venice contributed to vast deforestation.
Venice was build in centuries, not at once
Eventually only the one percent will be allowed to see these cities... billionaires only 😮
you think "Atlantis" is a myth? watch it in real time .
The tight proximity of huge holiday vessels compromises the whole intelligent architecture ingineering. Shall we successively lawfully manage to keep them away. 😅😢
love how they did the italian guy dirty when he was speaking english but they still dubbed over him 🗿
Why do the eco-types always see nature as sentient? Geological changes whether caused by natural or unnatural change are done by the scientific logic of what happens no fighting or emotion involved. You should take that to heart and learn from it.
So where is all the tourism money going?? Your telling me they only have 2 million uros?? That's a lie!! Where is the money really
Couldn’t they charge a fee to visit Venice? Like Disneyland? They charge over $100 per visitor. If a million visitors each paid $100, that could generate $100,000,000. Then do the repairs and if possible lower the visitor fee. Boats and ships should be taxed for damage as well.
Ships props liquid ez the mud ultrasonic waves. Exweymouth pier
Really, not thinking about what would happen.
Just think about this?? If you have motor operated boats??you have Wakes Wakes Wakes ??? What do you think is happening now ??? Deteriorating slowly every day ! Day by Day !
In 2018 I visited Venice while I was walking through the streets I saw myself standing in water waist deep I got so
afraid that we left Venice as soon as possible it was not long after that the sea started to raise and the level had raised also
water came into restaurants but the level that I was standing in as a tourist can still happens in future.
I was in Venice for 3 weeks in 2009 working... the water in the mornings were a crazy sight to behold!
THE ENGINEERS MAY WIN A BATTLE HERE AND THERE, BUT THE WAR IS ALREADY LOST
Personally I don't think so those dwells will work...surface of earth isn't same as balloon, that water could go anywhere else plus that wouldn't be equally lift...That could destroy Venice in the end...Just my opinion...🤔
Dislike for the misleading title. And im not watching it
Sth like grindavik
his-story do we beLIEve?
Questionable 🤔
STOP THE CRUISE SHIPS , NOWWW, DISCUSTING....😮
IPCC AR6 foresees a lot more that 50cm of SLR by the end of the century. In fact there are probable scenarios that foresee 50cm in a few decades. If the engineers and other individuals in the video actually took the time to read the IPCC reports (or the IMechE UK reports) they would realize that most of the actions mentioned in this video are irrelevant.
Fact is that real estate in Venice is worth only 20, maybe 30 years of rent, a fifth of its perceived value, unless something far more drastic than MOSE is implemented within a few decades. And to get started, people should start by accepting the conclusions that 1000s of scientists in IPCC, and 1000s of delegates from 195 member nations have reviewed and ratified over the last few decades. Everything else is a waste of time..
What is the painting of barbarians, it looks like a raciest painting of Moors riding of with a blond woman! 4-5 century AD Gali’s Goths and Vandals (Germanic from north Africa). People need to be more careful Northern Europeans brought it down not dark skinned people and not Muslims.
without tourism u all be starving stop ur crying
Isn't capitalism wonderful?
Communists meanwhile killed over 60 million, your kind of wetdream...
cLiMaTe ChanGe BS again... sad...
I think it was built on a solid ground and when reset happened (those buildings all over the world that have their first/second floors buried in mud), city got flooded with water.
