I am always so floored how much depth and life appears in your work after you smudge it all with a paint brush and build from there.
Thank you Melissa! Happy you like them.
I just love how much character you've managed to capture- that sassy stare. Also great technique, makes me want to whip-out my charcoals and start working :)
Thanks so much Neil!
Absolutely gorgeous!
This works is stunning!
Such a pleasure to watch …..thank you very much …Sir
Just wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing😍
Thank you for watching Kat!
Wow❤
Well done as usual.
Thanks Caroline!
Very nice…!
Can u do a video on how u would use charcoal on muscular arms or torso..I wanna see how u would create the effects…not sure if that is ur style but it would be greatly appreciated ..right now I watch ur videos as a guide..
Thank you J, I will try to do that!
Awesome drawing...Jeff is such a humble and nice guy too. (I met him one time at his studio here in SLC.) :)
Your work is beautiful, are you using willow sticks ?
Thank you Kay! I think this one is probably a vine stick, but I use willow a lot more now.
Jeff, give us another drawing. Make something up
Haha! Thanks Fabrizio
Jeff, your drawings are superb. really love them,,, please can you tell me which kind of paper you use??? following the process don't have the same effects!!!!!
Thank you Mario! I use Strathmore 400 series drawing pads quite a bit, but not always. This is the toned gray version of that.
@@JeffHainesArt Tks a lot...got it now i'll try :D
Schõn. 👍
Is this vine charcoal?
Yes!
Hii love your work.... Can you tell me apx. how long does it take for you to do one portrait in human size?
Ty
Thanks! It depends on how much I want to develop it, somewhere between 20minutes to several hours.

Your charcoal drawings are amazing every time. Thanks for sharing the video to see the process. Jeff, your drawing skills are superb. really.👍
Thanks man! Always appreciated!
What kind of brush are you using to blend?
It's a soft, round brush made for acrylic or oil painting. I don't think the specific brush is important, but fairly soft rather than stiff bristles will probably work better for you.
Well done as usual.
Another great charcoal portrait drawing demo! I love watching you work 😊
I thought, mad charcoals video.... Sorry😅😁
Hi Jeff
Is it always considered a mistake to cut the top of the head off when drawing a portrait? I mean, reaching the top of the paper with your drawing and having the head cut (maybe on purpose).
Thanks. Keep drawing
I suppose it depends on the portrait. May be better to fade the edge out than have a hard-edged chop off. Thanks Fabrizio.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.
Also love the funky music ;) 🎶
Thanks so much! People usually complain about my music choices, haha.
