Thank you very much. You help so many people learn such complex software in a much easier and fun way. Today I used your lessons and I was able to help my sister elaborate a little magazine for her homework. It ended up looking really nice!😄
This is great! I've installed AP on my laptop yesterday and started using it. I'm loving the design customization opportunities it has and can't wait to design my next books using it. Thank you again for this tutorial! It's awesome! Have a wonderful day!🤗🤗🤗
Would love a video on colours in affinity, colour matching to print outs I have a real tricky one where no matter how I adjust the curves slightly I can’t get the print to matchup with the screen image. It’s only on one graphic but I use it a lot it never prints like I see it ~ I’m up for a part 2 anyway :) cheers 🥂
Honestly, I have subscribed to lots of channels, including yours; and I don't get around to watching EVERY video those channels put out. I watch a lot of them though; and sometimes I comment just to help that RUclipsr with they're algorithms. I'm not saying I would comment if I didn't have anything to say or ask. I just don't expect anyone to be particularly interested in what I have to say. 😄
Thank you, Dave. Your presentations are very easy to follow and was very helpful. But as footnotes and endnotes are missing from Affinity Plusher, can you let us know how to do it manually? I am struggling to put some footnotes in a manuscript. Thank you!
Hmm, that's an interesting request... one that I will have to consider sometime later as I've had too many margaritas while on vacation. It is something I'll think about though... if I remember. ;)
Thank you, Dave! I’ve learned quite a bit here and will go back and rewatch a few times as there was so much here. I also appreciate the personality in your voice. It’s cheerful and keeps my brain awake!! Cheers from Australia!
Thank you for making a video on Affinity Publisher! This is a software that definitely needs more attention. I really want to learn more about how to use Affinity Publisher to create KDP books.
I have a couple vids in the archive about book and magazine layouts that you may find interesting. I will also be doing much more publisher content in the future.
@@DaveConrey Thank you! I'll definitely check them out :) I'm interested to learn everything there is to know about using Affinity Publisher to create KDP books.
I learned something new right off the bat. New subscriber here. :) How do you make a default brush for the pen tool on an ipad? It is really annoying having to change the brush every stroke.
Hi Dave - Very positive with your guides; but can I suggest, to help follow what you're doing on screen could you increase size of your pointer arrow. Thanks
Hi, you sound like you've been doing this along time, Do you know if Publisher has Object layering option like in Indesign? where you can select the layer of a linked file in the box it's placed in? Thank you
Thank you for responding! Any way you could tell me where it is? In publisher when I click on the layer my file is placed on, all i see is a X and no way to change layers. I hope I am explaining myself correctly. Thank you.
Dave, I am trying to lear Affinity Publisher, Designer, Photo and happened upon your tutorials. I would recommend you change your mouse cursor to red or another color besides black because a black background with a black arrow is hard to follow.
Unfortunately Affinity doesn't have an affiliate program, because I would rep that all day. Thanks for asking though. And the cost is a one-time fee. There may be an upgrade cost when they release the next major version, 2.0, but that's unclear at the moment.
@@DaveConrey Thanks, Dave! Yeah, that really is too bad. No doubt, with 6.82 K subscribers, you're making their company a lot of money. I had never heard of them before stumbling upon your channel; and I referred a friend who is investing in the full Adobe Creative Suite every month. I've lost access to the student version; so I'm only on the Photography Plan. I'll probably keep that because of the Lightroom files and batch editing; but I'm very interested in Publisher and Designer! At that low price, I'll likely get Photo too, just because it integrates so well with their other programs. I'll refer my friend to your channel. At least, I can support your work in that way.
Hi! Can someone guide me on whether to go with affinity pub or designer? I design posts for social media platforms on a daily basis. I also design for email marketing and web design.
Unless you’re billing multi-page documents that require pages that flow together like a book or brochure, then Designer is probably going to be better for you.
I am s struggling to get the color of ink in text to stay where I wanted to stay. I want a very black ink and it keeps taking me back to a very frustrating gray. Is there someway to set the text color for a document like you set everything else.
Drop shadows can be done with the FX palette from within layers. Curve text can be done by drawing your curve shape and then aligning the text tool to type on the path.
What's the deal with Infinity Pubisher and book formats for Amazon .... Like Epub Someone should do a full course on Publisher for Print and ebooks ... I'd join~ Thanks !
Ok, so this took me a minute to figure out. Create some text. Change it to what you want to be the default. Then, under the Edit Menu, select Defaults>Save. That should fix it.
One question. You have a box of colour. Can you knockout a shape from the inner area to leave a background so you can see what is behind it. Called Pathfinder in Illustrator. Any ideas.using this for some Technical illustration, and this is the only thing I have not managed to find how to do. You advice would be appreciated.
Publisher by itself does not have a tool like Pathfinder, but if you have all three apps, you can quickly jump to either the Photo or Designer persona within Publisher, and those tools are available for you.
Hi Dave. Thank you for your prompt reply. I have cracked it in Designer and placed it in Publisher. I design map layouts of tramway track in various cities I have never visited after getting the information from various webpages. The tram enthusiasts find it helpful if they are visiting and do not know what is there and where to go to photograph etc.. Also do high end technical orthographic technical illustrations of vintage trams for book publications for friends. This was the only problem I had not cracked. Used to use CS4 and loved it. However a new mac.would not let me use my bought access codes of years ago, so I had to re-learn. Found publisher would open the old CS4 files so started using it, but could not get the knock out for illustration. I am endebted to you for your advice. Thanks Bill Tuckwell
Hello!!! thank you for the videos i like them very much, you make it very easy to understand, i have a question, while being in publisher can you jump to the photo persona and use the liquify tool/persona? i was trying to do it but couldnt find how, thank you.
I didn't know if you could at first, but to my knowledge, no you cannot. Because although you're operating in the Photo persona, really, you're still in Affinity Publisher, and the Liquify persona is exclusive to Photo. However, there is one way to accomplish this, but it requires you to jump to Photo. 1. Save your Affinity Pub file. 2. In the Publisher menu, go to FILE > Edit In Photo. This will move the document into Affinity Photo, and then you can use the Liquify persona. 3. When finished editing, close the file and go back to Publisher. Open the file again, and your changes should be applied. I just did this and it worked for me.
Trying to go from InDesign for the past 30 years publishing a magazine to converting to affinity is a challenge especially when the video doesn’t show basic steps in a slower mode. When you talk and use the mouse pointer at the same time I can’t keep up and wish I had slow motion to see it to fully understand. This video needs to be redone using the basic steps that I would need to convert my older magazine into this new software at a slower pace. Hope I am not the only one confused at times.😎
If the images were linked and not embedded, then it's doable. The more you add, the heftier it will be obviously, but it should be able to handle it. I can't say definitely because I haven't built a document that large in it yet.
It would come in as any other image. Place your image box into the layout, and while select, go to FILE > PLACE and import the image. If for some reason it's not coming in correct, perhaps switch to the Photo Persona and place the image that way.
Yikes !!! 7 minutes into a 37 minute presentation about tools and palettes, and all I got was a headache. Talk about NO SCRIPT. 20:50 - You can edit nodes of picture frame, but you have to convert it to the curves first.
That makes sense. I’ll experiment. Thanks.

Just to say, the personas appear whether you have all programs or not. Hi from Scotland!
Good to know, and mòran taing.
I’m retired from the print industry and was looking for a substitute to the Adobe trifecta. It appears I’ve found it! Thanks for your time.

anyone know if or how to open indesign work files (CS6) into Affinity,????????
Only if they are IDML file extension.
Thank you for this video, I'm so glad theres an easy way to get started with Affinity Publisher.
Glad it was helpful!
Question…my main use for publisher would be for the creation of greeting cards. Would this program be beneficial?
Absolutely. Perfect for 2-sided, folded layouts.
I have made many greeting cards with Affinity Publisher.
My new reference video.

If I'm understanding you correctly, yes, this has been a thing since version 1 because of the way the layers palette works.
Thank you for responding! Any way you could tell me where it is? In publisher when I click on the layer my file is placed on, all i see is a X and no way to change layers. I hope I am explaining myself correctly. Thank you.

Try using a rich black color (40% cyan, 100% black). Traditional 100% black will not appear as rich black.

Yes you can place a circle within a circle for example and subtract it so you get a hole punched out, works with any shape.
You're awesome too Dave =) The book and magazine project templates sound great, as this is a project I'm in the process of learning already.

Would you say an entire book would be ok in one document? 300 pages or so, hundreds of images; 600 to over 1000.

But when you switch from apps, is the app already loaded? Or do you have to watch the splashscreen first when you swap apps for the first time
You're not actually switching apps. you're still in Publisher, but with the near-full accessibility of Designer or Photo.

Glad to hear it! My pleasure.
Is it same on windows pc
I can’t say for sure because I don’t use Windows, but my guess is yes, it does work the same.
I think only with the keyboard shortcuts Windows uses the control key instead of the command key.
It works just fine on my desktop PC.
why are you moving mouse pointer continously. it is confusing
