Ray used to play my high school dances when we were kids with his first band Four-Way Stop.Roy and Norton were playing a gig in Fairbanks about 20 years ago. They got pulled over by a cop about 1/4 mile from the club and Norton was driving. The cop didn't believe his name was Norton Buffalo. So the cop tells Roy to show his ID and he hands it over, Roy Rogers. Just as the cop was ready to arret them, Roy asked the cop to look down the street at the club marquee where both their names were listed

The world needs to know how amazing Norton was. Check out his riffs at 2:20 and his rhythm backing up Roy at 3:00. He did things that no harmonica player could do. He was the Jimi Hendrix of harmonica. Plus he was he kindest nicest dude. RIP brother

Thanks for pointing out the rhythm at 3 minutes. Yes, very special articulation there, tricky indeed. I'll leave it to Norton. Peace.

Man I am glad I found you again Norton .I left my harps in Bagdad, Iraq So I could change the culture only to come back home and found out I changed and was so depressed coming home I wish I would have stayed for a while loner . So now hearing you again Ill teach my Grand kids to play if they'll sit still long enough to have a happier purpose filled life

Very distinctive, imaginative, inventive chromatic and diatonic harp player. Add the great vocals and phrasing and Norton is the man. Always a pleasure to listen to. Thanx for the post. Jay

Up until this very day, I was certain that Howard Levy was the greatest harmonicaplayer to have ever walked the earth.
I feel like crying. what a horrible lie I've been living.

My favorite musicians ever. I owe them a great big deal. Their recordings definitely shaped my own playing style (both slide and harmonica), and many other aspects of my life. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering tho, anyone here knows what’s the model of the chromatic harp Norton’s playing? Gee, he makes it sound so bright and powerful. Cheers

Norton is playing a Hohner CBH2016 chromatic custom tuned down to A. I think it really helps him maintain the similar volume out of the microphone with one hand compared to the diatonic with 2 hands due to the chambers in the back.
