  • This is the old Illinois Central Railroad's Iowa Service. The Canadian National Railway now runs these tracks and has retained the label "Freeport Sub" for the tracks heading west, out of the Hawthorne rail yard in Cicero, to Freeport, which is a ways past Rockford. These are most of my May 2024 clips of CN power on the Freeport Sub. Video shows a mixture of nice lashes as well as the Addison Local. The last few clips show the Local at Hillside and North Riverside. The other clips are all at Hillside. I did augment the sound on the Harrison street clip. As a final note I would like to again mention how the Freeport is almost perfectly straight from Hillside to Berwyn. That is six or seven miles and if power is warming up at Berwyn, the headlight can be seen in Hillside!!! However, those tracks are not perfectly level. There are all sorts of viaducts and culverts which create a little bit of a rolling run. In addition. The incline from Berwyn to Hillside is well over fifty feet. The westbounds have to slowly stretch out and then apply power. The eastbounds have to control their momentum once the tail end of the train tops the ridge at Hillside.

Where are the box cars coming from? The only thing i can think of is the recycling place in Addison?

I asked around and no one seems to know, Yeah, the recycle place in the Addison Industrial Area would be a safe bet.
