Hi Sir, I am a cpa from Philippines, but I’m here in US now, I’m planning to get the CMA first before CPA. Now, I’d like to ask what are the requirements? Thank you.
Hi. Thank you for sharing your question. There are several requirements before a candidate can become officially CMA certified. Here’s my article on this topic: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/ref/nathan/ If you have questions after reading it, please let me know. Thanks!
So what exactly counts towards the experience requirement? I currently work in the accounting department of a general construction company. We are federal contractors, with 99% of our work being completed at VA hospitals or GSA buildings, etc. I exclusively handle AP and the processing of all certified payroll submissions from all subcontractors confirming their compliance with the Davis Bacon Act. Since there are only 3 of us in the Accounting Department, I have dabbled in other areas as well, but AP and CP are currently my primary responsibilities. Would this count? Or does it need to be more managerial experience?
Rebekah, for details on what qualifies, here’s my article on this topic: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/ if you have questions after reading it, please let me know. Thanks!
I have an Associate in Arts Transfer and took a LOA last year at my state university. My major is in Sociology. Would this disqualify me from taking my CMA exam?

If it's a bachelor's degree from an accredited university, I believe 3 years is fine. You can also contact IMA's customer support to get clarification on this by providing your school and degree information for review.
Hi. Thank you for your question. CMA educational requirements can be fulfilled in two ways: 1. Earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 2. Have a professional certification Also, CMA does not require you to have a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
