- Solution according to Matlab(R). This high level scientific software uses the PEMDAS rules to determine the order of the operations.
PE(MD)(AS):
1.- Parenthesis
2.- Exponents
3.- Multiplications and Divisions from left to right
4.- Additions and Subtractions from left to right
Multiplication AND Division share the same rank, thus when you find them together you solve them from left to right. This is so, because any division can be expressed as a multiplication. Similar thing happens with Addition and Subtraction.
Therefore, in 6:2(1+2)
Parenthesis first: 6:2(3)
Now we have ONLY multiplications and divisions, the parenthesis is irrelevant at this point: 6:2x3, and we should proceed from left to right (according to PEMDAS, see the small print! XD)
6:3 = 3, therefore we get
3x3 = 9
L.Q.Q.D.
Another way to see it, starting from 6/2x3, is converting the division in a multiplication by the multiplicative inverse:
6:2 = 6x0.5, and the whole expression becomes:
6x0.5x3, this way you see there is no hierarchy between them, therefore you solve them from left to right.
Not at all, L2 Algebra. Brackets come first and you automatically multiply the first set of number against the number within the brackets. Thus, the end result being 9. Verified by my University professor, lol.

You got it wrong.. 6/2*(1+2) is not the original problem! It's 6/2(1+2). The problem is the missing multiplication sign, which can stand for juxtaposition or multiplication
You put in the wrong equation! It's 6/2(1+2)=
