I love the RVD as WWE Champion Smackdown storyline. Sure it was unexpected as RVD didn't actually win the WWE Championship until 2006 but it's still a great storyline to work with rather than taking the fall for Teddy Long being run over with John Cena as WWE Champion.

This is what I liked about old WWE games. Of course I like the showcase modes for 13, 2k14, and 2k16, good modern games with stories inspired by the real life events of WWE. But the 5 Smackdown games and SVR games had a charm to them because, the graphics still hold up, the gameplay is fun and the original stories they came up with were fun and goofy, and not cringey and unbearable like the showcases 2k has nowadays. The smackdown and SVR games were 100% fun because of everything they had in store. With 2k games, it's a hit or miss. The only 2k games I really enjoyed were 14, 16 and battlegrounds. Oh, and let's not forget the amazing soundtracks these games had.

The game came out in November shortly before Eddie Guerrero's death. Eric Bischoff got fired well over a week following Survivor Series.

There’s so much good dialog and great scenes, but at the same time the game is filled with a bunch of random monologging to stretch out the storyline thrown in with the interactions

Honestly, Eddie didn't sound too healthy here at various points. I imagine he recorded his lines not too long before he passed, this game came out the day after.
