This type of well control is a one way street and is setting oil drill platforms up for disaster. In deep horizon's/ macondo well spill verified as this type of well control used as a blow out prevention failed as the annular valve above the hydraulic valves failed as the doughnut seat failed to seal as it was coming apart. The hydraulic rams which are designed to crush/cut the line closed failed as the well piping was bent from a "kick" or Pressure spike and was out of alignment. Pressure still managed to make it's wsyvthrough as the pipe was only partially closed after the hydraulic rams were activated. Crude and gases made it's way to the drill platform and found a heat source and the rest is history. This type of blowout prevention does not work. If it did would stop production and create a time bomb as it would leave just the well piping sealing itself against another spill left to happen as the piping will corrode on the outside of the pipe which also includes water pressure and on the inside has well pressure in crude and gases. Repairs can't be attempted and means creating a spill. This type of blowout prevention cannot be tested periodically to verify it works properly until it's needed. This type of bop system is also incapable of isolating pressure in order to either repair or abandon the well. I'm the designer that was responsible for creating the. Caphead spool that was used to stop the deep horizon's macondo well spill. I'm a mechanic and also have 30 years experience in pipeline repair and Maintenance. I'm currently employed on Alaska's North slope oilfields in Prudhoe Bay (2019) . in June 20, 2010 I watched news coverage of the horizon crew using underwater to cut bent sect of line away from wellhead pipe. This left several feet of pipe sticking out of the seafloor and had a flange in has from the pipe end. From what I saw designed a caphead spool that could be lowered onto the wellhead pipe and use lugs or wings to lower and lock behind the pipe flange. That secure the caphead to the wellhead pipe and st the caphead spools bottom used chevron seals that would use the wells pressure to seal the caphead and stop the leak. Flow controlled could be diverted to the surface Where it could be recovered onto a barge or tanker. Next a downhole pump (tritan) could over pressure the flow and inject sealant (cement/slurry) into the pipe to volume fill the piping. The caphead left emplaced unti the sealant set up and well sealed and spill stopped. Later chatting with a co-worked found there was a number I could reach the " horizon helpline" and called and chatted with the helpline personnel and got their email and sent my caphead design, with instructions off to them. I neglected to file for a patent and as emailed back by the horizon helpline stating my design was unusable. I tried calling the helpline only to find it had been discontinued. Several weeks later I watched the news coverage as my design caphead was lowered onto the macondo well piping and spill stopped. For my design contribution I got slapped in the face and brushed off. Later emailing BP was rd the design wasn't patented and could be considered theirs. I went as far as filing a case with BP CLAIMS.ORG.and still have copies of my design submitted as well as emails back and forth with the helpline. I decided to wait until the corrupt Obama administration was out of office to voice my opinion. 9 years later still seeing the same type of blowout prevention with the annular valve and hydraulic rams being used means disaster and an accident waiting to happen. This type of bop system cannot be periodically tested to verify it will work as well as isolate pressure. I have designs that will enable to isolate pressure in order that the new bop system can be repaired or maintained. The well can be kept in production and risk of spills eliminated. My designs are available but are not free and will be patented. My future plans are to market my designs for safer well bop systems. The difference is paying little compared to the billions spent in fines for fines and spill clean up. I also intend starting my own company specializing in deep water repairs for ocean based drill platforms. "007".
