- Hello HomeBosses! In this video I will be showing you how I fill in the 7 backend keyword boxes in Amazon KDP. Should you use long tail keywords or short tail keywords? Is it necessary to fill out all the slots? What are the best keywords to use? I will be answering all of these questions and more.

Nuria, Thank you, videos like yours are good to clarify things, but after reading the comments, I am truly baffled at what people did not know and did wrong, all that after they have already published and I am talking about the most basic. Don't we all read KDP Guidelines? The rules explain what we should or should not do and true, at times it is less clear and that's when we need videos. Besides, the rules change too, so it is a must to keep up. Thanks Nuria.

Thanks for sharing this Nuria! Clear explanation about keywords. So no need to separate the keywords with a comma or a semicolon in the 7 fields? Just keep writing the keywords in a row. Really appreciate you teaching this.
No need to use commas or semicolons at all, just write the words in a row. Good luck on your KDP journey!

I'm not that happy with the designs i made so far because my tech knowledge is very limited.

Yes, you can. I often fill them with high competition keywords because that is what people type into Amazon. Anything that you think people will type in to search for your book is ok. Just don't use trademarks or copyrighted material.

That depends on the book. There are no guarantees in this business. The reality is that your first books will probably not sell. Your first books are to learn the process.

Thank you, your video is very helpful. May I ask questions about checking Trademark ? We have to check all words both Title and Subtitle ?
It's always best to check if you're not sure.
Should we be putting the title and/or subtitle in our keywords (at least the main words), or are those not default keywords already? Don't they come up automatically in a search if the words searched for are part of the actual title? Or will a book not come up in a search that uses the words in the title if the title is not also in the keyword boxes? Thank you for all these detailed videos!
There is no need to repeat keywords in the 7 keyword boxes if those keywords are already in the title or subtitle. The title and subtitle have more weight than the backend keywords.

Yes, you can. But it might be an idea to use it in the subtitle instead. I will bring out another video on titles and subtitles too.

I'm using your technic & edits my all books keywords. I put exactly as you said, no repeated words! So sometimes random words like: cat funny sketch 2020 monthly weekly book
Yes, Amazon just uses the keywords in the way that the customer types them in. You can also use long tail keywords (keywords in sentences) but avoid repetition. I use a mixture of both random words and long tail keywords.

Do you put your backend keywords like this? Because in some videos, some YT channels say type keywords on amazon search bar and see results and competition and if it is suitable, then use it. But in this video, there are keywords that customers may type in. You did not consider as amazon results or competition etc. Which method should I use?
This is how I do my keywords and it works for me. But you can try a combination of other methods. KDP is not an exact science, a lot of it is trying different things and seeing what works for you. Best of luck.

Hi, regarding your 7 keyword boxes, Can you use the titles of some of the best selling books in your genre as the key phrases in a few of your 7 keyword boxes, or is that against the rules ? Would this mean that when someone searches for a specific book, your book would also show up in the search ? Thanks for your help.
I wouldn't recommend that, it's best to target your keywords very tightly. You don't even have to use all of the 7 slots if you don't have many keywords that are suitable.

Yes, of course the less competition the better.

After 65 books I have done keywords in one box , didn't realise you can fill the boxes, is it too late once uploaded to edit the keywords ?
It's no problem to edit your keywords.
Should these keywords be readable? I heard Amazon drafting the book What if the keyword is not readable? If don't have to make the keyword readable, then it is much better & putting more keys on the bar. Please give me an answer.

Unfortunately we can only do that if we run ads.

Not silly at all, very good question. I don't separate the words with a comma, the algorithm can't read commas so it's not necessary. Hope that helps!

Not sure I understand the question. The 7 keywords are just words that you think the customer will type in to find what they are looking for, and hopefully that is your book. The less competition of course the better the chances.

We are working hard to be back in stock as soon as possible'', so i just should wait yes?
Yes, it can sometimes take a while. Also the UK are having very bad weather problems so deliveries are delayed in some areas.

Can we still edit these backend keywords even though we already published it or already 'live'?
Yes, you can edit them by going into the backend and changing them. Your book will be in review again but it doesn't take as long as it did the first time.

So you don’t use one box for one keyword. It’s just running on?
You can use one box for one keyword if you don't have many, or you can just put them all in the first box... it doesn't matter to Amazon where you put them, Amazon reads them individually regardless of where you put them. If you have a long tail keyword, then it would make sense to put it in one box.
