    • @reversecourse
      @reversecourse 6 лет назад +15

      The higher up you go in "education" the more you swing radically left. The more you swing radically left, the less free you become. The less free you become the lower the quality of your life will be. It's only when outside speakers come to campuses that the students are exposed to any ideas other than radical left wing ideas.

    • @Kraisedion
      @Kraisedion 6 лет назад +10

      @reversecourse I think you have been indoctrinated to a specific, incorrect view of the left. Quite a few of Bannon's statements here were hard left, such as breaking up Facebook and Google and better, putting it into a public trust. As Bannon himself admitted, plenty of lefties are economic nationalists - and what he misses is that the left has a long tradition of anti-government libertarian movements. Even looking at Corbyn in the UK his platform is giving more power to the people and investing in the community. Identity politics and other elitist sideshows are a liberal game, not the left game. As a leftie I want to decentralize the government as much as possible, I want national sovereignty and respect for the concept of self-determination. I am not alone - and no, we do not like Liberals. Hell, as a Norwegian both the solid socialist parties here reject the EU categorically for their globalist and liberal capitalism. And notice who plays identity politics - the establishment. It is a cheap and lazy way to keep power and distract from the real issues.
      I actually agree with many of the stances Bannon put forth, which was a given, National Conservatives are against predatory globalist capitalism, and that is a uniter, but I will disagree aggressively with many of his other policies. Nationalism does not fix capitalism, the elites he speaks of seeks refuge in it. There is a reason why those in power will, if they have to, pick populist right candidates, hell, even fascists, over a leftie any time, because they know their financial interests are safer with them. Bannon and Trump are not rocking the boat for the wealthy. They may make the world slightly better for a portion of the working class, which I applaud them for, but the issue will persist and any wins will be temporary. For true liberation we need to properly decentralize both the government and capital and create a world where people own their own labor, rather than having to rent themselves to the rich.

    • @georgevaccaro9379
      @georgevaccaro9379 6 лет назад +1

      @@Kraisedion Interesting post, right up to the "renting themselves to the rich" part. I find that an odd way to put things, but I might not be following your analogy. Commodity labor in a way is renting themselves to the economy in exchange for payment. As you specialize your skills you become more in control of your labor, though in most countries you still owe a portion of that labor to the state. So how do you get to your conclusion? For background, I have seen people come from next to nothing and achieve significant wealth due only to their ambition and drive.
      I've seen folks with a typical employee mentality think that the "big boss" doesn't deserve what (s)he makes because they do all the work, yet those people are in every case I've ever seen easily replaceable. The owner, partner etc. was generally the one (or two etc.) that took big risks, had the most responsibility (think payroll, insurance, legal) and worked the most hours at least for the first many years.
      I only take the time to write this as you clearly have the ability to reason but I see this typical employee mentality often and it's a trap. I've also seen what people can do once they shed it.
      If you're talking about central banking, that's another story at another level, but I don't think you are.

      The first student brought up a contradiction in Bannon's rhetoric, and his response was a little too rambling and defensive.
      The second student did the same, highlighting actual contradictions. This is classically Socratic. The answer was very interesting, because Bannon's *best* ideas are NOT the ones that were implemented. Travel bans, sure. Accountability for the destruction wrought by Big Money? HA. Trump depends on Deutsche Bank. Bannon also used a slogan in his answer, "triggered." Not a good sign.
      The third student gave him an opportunity to comment on the demonstrators, who were the real deplorables. No problem. Bannon again gave an answer that shows that his best ideas are NOT the ones that are implemented. The student then pointed out that those who have attained political power are publicly distancing themselves from him, and asked him to comment. Again, interesting. Bannon did not mind the question.
      The fourth student began by taking a stand for freedom of speech, then asked an excellent question about Bannon's view of election prospects in 2020.
      The fifth student first thanked him for staying over, to talk to them. Then she asked a very astute question about about political trust. Bannon appreciated the question, and was enthusiastic about answering, because it gave him a chance to talk about the things he is most passionate about. She made a counterpoint, and he tried to play folksy. He used another trope that she did not, "sorry for mansplaining."
      The sixth student said that the economic progess was not thanks to Trump, and that Trump did not, in general, solve the problems Bannon correctly highlights. AGAIN, Bannon's best ideas were NOT not not implemented. And Bannon DOES have lots of good ideas.
      The seventh student asked a very open-ended question on immigration, allowing Bannon to express himself on a matter he is passionate about, and show off some more of his good ideas. Which go nowhere.

      @King Leopold This is completely false!!! Post WW2 the UK set up nationalized programmes such as the welfare state, NHS, Social security, social housing etc and paid for this with progressive Tax, the highest Tax Bracket at one point was 90%. In the 80's we had Thatcher who deregulated and opened up the markets, got rid of social housing and chipped away at much of the 'safety' net created for us after WW2. Blair continued to chip away and in 2010 we chipped away even further with Austerity. The highest Tax bracket for higher earners is now 40% and Corp Tax is 18%, lowest its ever been.
      I somewhat think Bannon is hitting the problem on the head - the economy isn't working for the majority! The problem IMO is a complete lack of investment in public services, deregulation, cross-border free-market liberalization across markets. Basically, I think the problem we have in today's world is the result of 'free markets' not that we should further open up our markets and make them even freer.

      The first student brought up a contradiction in Bannon's rhetoric concerning "Judeo-Christian" values, and his response was a little too rambling and defensive.
      The second student did the same, highlighting actual contradictions in what Bannon is on record as having said. This is classically Socratic. The answer was very interesting, because Bannon's *best* ideas are NOT the ones that were implemented. Travel bans, sure. Accountability for the economic destruction wrought by Big Money? HA. Trump depends on Deutsche Bank. Bannon also used a slogan word in his answer, "triggered." Not a good sign.
      The third student gave him an opportunity to comment on the demonstrators, who were the real deplorables in this picture. No problem. Bannon again gave an answer that shows that his best ideas are NOT the ones that are implemented. The student then pointed out that those who have attained political power are publicly distancing themselves from him, and asked him to comment. Again, interesting. Bannon did not mind the question.
      The fourth student began by taking a stand for freedom of speech, then asked an excellent question about Bannon's view of Trump's and the Republicans' election prospects in 2020.
See a pattern here?
      So, who was so disappointing? I thought it was illuminating. Bannon is interesting to watch. Nothing ever comes of the good policies he endorses -- especially on taxes! Ha.

      "If I have him de-platformed; how can i know what he thinks?" You could start with the million op-ed pieces he has been given in Time, the New Yorker, the WaPo.. you could look at Breitbart articles from when he was editor - you could read his books - you could read speeches from when he was Trump's advisor and since. It is not exactly difficult to find out what he thinks. You could also look at the political movements that he assists and funnels money to (the FN in France, AFD, Generation Identity, Pegida, Victor Orban and so on) and see what their histories are, and what their stated goals are, which might give you an even better idea than listening to Steve Bannon's own dissembling about his political goals.
See a pattern here?
      So, who was so bad? I thought it was illuminating. Bannon is interesting to watch. Nothing ever comes of the good policies he endorses -- especially on taxes! Ha.
      Envy of the young is always such a sad stance to adopt. That is one war you cannot win. Thank goodness.

This is what happens when you are raised in environments where everyone agrees; where you are never exposed to strong views that are opposed to yours and therefore do not think and make robust counter points. Does "Oxford" receive a pound of tax money in support? If so, just how much are the citizens of England soaked each year to support it? What percentage of its total revenue is from public sources and establishment "foundations"?
      What are the "admissions" requirements to get into Oxford? Just grades? Or do you and or your family have to be wealthy by average income standards in your country?
      Clearly, few if any in the room know about and understand anything about INDIVIDUALISM as a life philosophy and its relation to the proper role of governments.
      The old saying, "Don't get above your raising", is on display here. The "raising" they are getting is clearly inadequate and COLLECTIVIST in its preaching. Collectivism is a disease, if not the principal philosophy being taught to every Oxford student. It's obvious in their extreme collectivist bias.
      If the essence of freedom is the limitation of gov't, these students are nothing less than little authoritarian tyrants, receiving their training and after graduation will be given a "badge" and a sense of authority over others and join their elite comrades to hone their "education" in service to the collective all the more!
      Their minds are closed by Oxford, not opened! Society will suffer for it! Because they think they know so much more than "the common man", but much of what they believe is just NOT SO!

      Civic Nationalism - The cows aren't breeding fast enough, so you admit a controlled number of various wild animals into the cow pens. It's fine. This is a farm of immigrants, and they just need to embrace our cow values. None of these animals produce milk, and they consume massive amounts of hay. They breed so quickly that the cows are milked dry in order to feed the other animals young. To the point that they are unable to have their own calves. Predatory animals begin killing and eating the cows, but this is blamed on intolerance, and measures are immediately taken to combat cow privilege. Including changing the definition of milk, which is found to be an outdated social construct. You begin harvesting and packaging urine as "milk" and the animals become infuriated and begin to destroy the farm you sneak away during the chaos and flee to Israel.

If you don't have rules and regulations, chaos ensues. Nothing is fair in life, but we can all make choices, first individually, then collectively to make things better. Jordan Peterson states it best. You need the left and the right, to work together. Sometimes one side is right and sometimes the other is. Together we would have a much better place. Still not fair, still not prefect (nothing every is nor will be, that's why you have nets and plans to deal with problems), but it'll be the best possible outcome, if not a step towards better.
