Let's deep dive into floor plans for your new construction home. If you found a ready made floor plan that fits all your needs and is exactly what you want, you don’t really need this chapter. But most people will want to do some tweaks or at least want to understand why the space is allocated the way it is. You can create a home as unique as you but there are some standards and space considerations to think about.
Throughout this presentation I am using a lot of dimensioned drawings and illustrations. Some of these I created myself and some I found on a site called dimensions.com. They are a great resource for illustrations and dimensioned drawings of standard layouts and architectural details. You can look up layouts and dimensions for some many things on this site! If you are a construction drawing nerd like me, you will love it.

I am covering kitchen spacing, work triangles, ADA guidelines, standard sizes and what can be customized. Bathroom layouts, accessibility, fixture placement and clearances, bedrooms, closets, how much space things take up and how much room you need for activities.
