  • In this episode, we provide an overview over the new UNECE regulation on cybersecurity for vehicles and the Draft International Standard ISO/SAE 21434 (Cybersecurity for Road Vehicles). With the content of the episode, we try to help you to make a start into the new legal requirements that’ll be activated by mid of 2022 for new vehicle models and by mid of 2024 for legacy vehicles .
The content of this series of videos is based on the more than 12 years of embedded security experience of the ITK Engineering cybersecurity teams - more than 50 cybersecurity professionals who can support on the path to an adequate and compliant level of vehicle security, no matter if it is about the implementation of the necessary processes, threat and risk analyses, cybersecurity concepts, the development and implementation of security measures for embedded control units and their connected systems, or cybersecurity testing, such as vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and fuzz testing.

Very clear and consise overview. Thanks for sharing.
I'm currently an automotive Functional Safety engineer and looking forward to watching the rest of the series to increase my knowledge of cyber security. I can see these FuSa and Cyber activities becoming more interconnected over the next few years with regards to HARA's and TARA'S, complimentary safety and cyber concepts, etc.

Thanks so much for your comment, Sam. And also thanks for your suggestion to take a closer look at the connection between safety and security. We will add this idea to our list.

Thank you. This was very helpful. I am on the supplier side to auto OEMs here and we are getting some requests to be compliant. But these are coming from OEMs with security and engineering teams that have more than 10-20 times my budget. We need an ISO 21434 light. Honestly I think ISO 21434 is far too bloated even for the OEMs with the budget.

I agree, the effort is not trivial to invest by a smaller company for just this topic - besides all the other non-security requirements you need to meet to make business with the OEMs. However, if you compare security with a series of fences, the protection is only functioning if all poles are mounted. Same here, doing just a bit could lead to unsecure systems instead of less secure systems. Anyway, there are a lot of ways to tailor the whole thing so that it is possible to even comply with the requirements based on a smaller budget. If you like, drop us an email and we can setup a complimentary first call on that topic, since we are helping several companies on OEM and supplier level on the track to ISO/SAE 21434.
