2:23 That's a masterpiece that could go in museums everywhere. The music... it's professional and bootiful. 4:23 Oh my god. That would make a great background for my iPad lock screen. 4:34 I'm going to set that as my alarm clock sound. 7:56 That would make a good boss theme. :D 8:28 Someone really should make a 1 hour loop of this. 9:21 I really should somehow find a way to get a picture of this and stick it to my ceiling above my bed so I would see it every time I lye down.
Dr Mario Iteration 1: The pills sprites and positioning are glitched, beating a stage causes the entire HUD to glitch-flicker (AKA in a flickering manner it glitches and returns to normal) Iteration 2: Starting causes the game to inmediantly think you beat the stage and skips to the next one, and so on, and so on, The stages only have a yellow virus and the sprites in the bottom right rotate incredibly and move incredibly fast everytime the stage skip happens Iteration 3: Title screen, menu and Mario and the virus sprites are broken, the music is a garbled mess, throwing a pill and killing a germ causes the game to temporarily freeze and then half of the germs suddently disappear, after a while the game crashes making a noise. Iteration 4: similar to the previous iteration but now the music is less garbled and glitched, the germ sprites in the main game are also glitched and screen doesn't flicker-glitch that much, after a while the game crashes. Iteration 5: The music is stuck making a low but loud beeping noise, the germ sprite animations are accelerated at such point it generates a blur. Iteration 6: Another graphic corruption, the pills' sprites also glitch, after a while the game crashes. Iteration 7: The main game's tiles have a few glitches. Iteration 8: The Jingle glitches with a looping sound effect, some loud static and beeps here and there, the game over jingle is a jumble of glitched sounds and loud beepings. Iteration 9: the menu glitches greatly, starting a game inmediantly gives you a game over screen. Iteration 10: A grey screen, which turns pink with flickering sprites, sometimes the germs and Mario's sprites appear with incorrect coloring as the screen turns purple
The game was released in 1990, The same year Nintendo released Fire Emblem. Which was also the year they released the SNES as the Super Famicom. Fun fact: both things that had a similar development cycle.
It's notably more involved than that. There's finding where the graphics are stored in the ROM, which if it's compressed, can be VERY difficult to find. Besides, I'm probably going to be sticking to NES games for a while.
1:35 ell there's that Nuclear Explosion Joel was wondering about...it's a tree!2:23 Nintenmdo...you shouldn't have added DPCM samples; They don't match the beeping!4:35 That's the sound of the viruses being electrocuted.
also, once when I was playing on a real nes, i tilted the cartridge and it went to level A-(Blue virus symbol), It's just a level where Dr.Mario can't throw any pills because the jar is full of viruses with a count of C4 viruses
I like the layout of Windows 7 more than OS X, probably from using Windows for 14 years, and that's really what's keeping me from having a Hackintosh, a custom PC with Mac OS X installed.
there are corrupting programs out there, but I use my own script that I wrote myself. It is by no means user friendly and is for advanced users, only. Someday I'll probably get off my ass and make a how-to video, but it won't be for the faint of heart.
Game genie codes weren't used at all, it was all changes to the ROM directly, though I suppose you could in theory find out what was changed and create game genie codes that way.

Game: YOU WIN!
Me: well the game’s screwed if I keep winning
2:40 Dr Mario: My god the pills are bouncing everywhere! someone stop them!
2:41 that had to be the weirdest 9 seconds of silence i've ever heard XD

I'm sure this was mentioned, but Iteration 7 has an interesting concept going with it.
Rapidly decaying pills does add a unique spin on the gameplay

In iteration 3 the game was probably thinking: I can't handle this! I CAN'T HANDLE THIIIIIIS!!!!

This one pretty much turns the game into Puyo Puyo.

I could, but in regards to ROM mapping, I wouldn't even know where to begin...
Nifty.
Also, I love that Tyrian ending!
Dr.mario gave the wrong pills!
There's a lot of malpractice going on in this video. :P

I still think Iteration 3's one of the best corruptions I've ever seen.
+Vulcan64 Heh thanks, though I think there are some of mine that are better. :P
2:28 That sounds like creepy
2:23 Bugged graphics and sound mechanics. The game doesn't know what patterns it wants to use for the map.
it does, it's just selecting the wrong ones. lolbankswitching
