- WHY ARE WE SEEING SO MANY MORE RUDE CRUISERS?
Something seems to have happen since the cruising restart after the shutdown. It seems I'm running into more and more rude cruisers who just don't care about others or want to tell you their feelings even if you were not talking to them.
That woman really made an impression on you. Please don’t let her keep living rent free in your head. She’s not worth it.
Love that statement!
Sounds like Don found his perfect match.
Don won’t read this comments
Yes, he's posted before about this incident and the one on the bus. He really needs to stop obsessing over her.
He’s in need of content for his commitment of daily videos & its possible there are some who haven’t heard the story - it’s okay 😊
I miss when people had good manners.
Me, too...
It’s not cruise passengers, it’s people in general 😵💫
When somebody is obnoxiously rude, just turn around, give them a huge smile and in your most polite voice tell them to f right off.
Don't forget the one finger salute!
The whole world is getting ruder. There's so much anger in the world at the moment. So sad to see.
Unfortunately, this is true...
So true!
Society has changed. In the 1960's, Dr Spock wrote the book saying: "Let the child do whatever he wants." Generations have now grown up doing whatever they want, with little accountability. People don't care. They only care about themselves. Ruining experiences for others does not matter to them. Rudeness is a reflection of society. It used to be "the Ugly American" in Europe.
Now they are everywhere ~ esp. cruises. One can either cruise and put up with them ~ or not cruise. I have chosen the latter. Best to You ~.
👍
People in general everywhere are getting worse, not just on cruise ships. Young, old doesn’t matter. Really have to pack your patience when traveling at all.
Unfortunately manners and kindness, oh and being helpful instead of being critical seems to be a thing of the past😢
People are becoming more and more entitled, to meet their means. I’m very patient and at times I will say, Life skills of Patience is a virtue.
My husband can be impatient at times. So I tend to keep him grounded. He had a major seizure a couple years back. His personality changed. But I keep him check. We love cruising and meeting people.😊
It's worth not getting triggered. Society is like a mine field. Cheers to you & your husband for perseverance. We all deserve a vacation.
You never know what has happened to a person to make them behave a certain way. “Judge not, lest you be judged.” Who knows if the “crazy person” who annoys you had a seizure like your husband? But all these people talking on a bus drowning out the guide giving information - how irritating! I have a friend who interferes like Big Mouth Lady, who can say very rude things, but i think she got mentally screwed up when her husband got very sick and died. At first she kind of frightened me, but i have seen her at the weak spots she tries to cover up, and I’m getting used to this.
I think people in general have gotten more unfriendly, not just on cruise ships but also on transit, at work and everywhere in general. People seem to have this sense of entitlement. But part of the problem on the cruise ships is that they are too crowded. It's starting to not feel like a relaxing vacation when you can't find a chair to sit by the pool, or you have to be in a huge lineup for everything and you are made to feel like cattle.
I totally agree
@@debbiekeltz-wolk7691 I blame social media for a lot of societal ills.
I noticed everybody has been more rude since the covid :(
For sure and the New Cruisers seem EVEN WORSE. !!!!
As They are OWED more ...
Yes,entitlement.
Yes , You got IT...
People have become so self entitled. Last few generations no discipline in schools. No discipline at home. Ridiculous.
"But why, oh why, do the wrong people travel when the right people stay back home"
~Elaine Stritch
I forgot about that bus incident. Lol. So grumpy.
😂 someone said Don doesn't read the comments, well his friend does!!!! Loca4Life #TonyMac😂
My mom always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!"
People everywhere have just lost common decency, manners and patience. I try my best to just ignore them.
I think there is a different class of people cruising now. Plus people just don’t have the proper training in manners and personal behavior. I know in my experience, most cruise lines do not have the same level of staffing as before and my expectations refuse to accept poof performance or poor attitudes.
We need to start giving it back to these people. I know good manners says to ignore rude people, but they don't learn anything if you do. We need to retaliate, push back. This can be done without yelling or getting into a fight. It seems to be the only way these people know how to communicate and they need to know how rude they are.
We had a lady on our recent Disney cruise. On their newest island the staff was pulling chairs from the nearby cabana area and a woman was complaining about all the kids nearby the public beach. Ummmm do you realize you're on a Disney cruise lady?😂 She complained all day🤦♀️
Not just cruisers, it’s everywhere.
Dearest Don, this is the age of entitlement! Drives me crazy that there are so many people were apparently not raised with manners or decided, as they came of age, that manners don’t apply to them. Makes me sad.
Unfortunately it’s not just cruisers, it’s society in general. It seems during lockdown we turned feral and forgot how to act like descent human beings. Problem is people seem to enjoy being rude and down right mean. I’m not sure we will ever be able to go back.
Because we are getting ruder, impatient, entitled people!
One of the reasons why we pay extra for a balcony is to avoid being around such negativity.
I have found that when I match Karen's energy, "she" hates it and walks away. My adult children typically do the same. We are so over miserable people that have nothing better to do than complain and hate on people and life in general.
It’s the entitlement they have been given.
Vote RED.
@@lightwarrior432you spelled blue wrong! 😂💙💙💙💙💙💙
Now cruises are accessible to all classes of people with a loss of manners and class. Wish cruising (and air travel) was like 30 or 40 years ago. Standards have certainly dropped both in behaviour and dress
Be careful @evaborkowski5509... your privilege is showing.
The same thing happened when the airlines were de-regulated. They became like Greyhound buses.
We have recently returned from a cruise along the Western Australian coast. There was an extremely high proportion of nasty & angry old people, most over 80s that I have ever experienced. They often pushed in line, pushed their walkers in front of you, sped along in their electric wheelchairs & in some cases, ran over other passenger's feet, told people off for the slightest reason, demanded attention from wait staff, hogging window seats in the buffet area even though they had finished eating. Seriously, these nasty people shouldn't cruise.
People are unbelievable❣️The first story you were telling us must be a control freak, and don’t forget misery loves company when they are miserable
Last month my daughter and I were on an Irish music cruise on Holland cruise line. I decorated our door with magnets of my favorite singing group, who were performing on the ship. Put them up on embarkation day, and came back a couple of hours later to find one magnet gone. We put a couple of flags, one American, one Irish in our mailbox to help us find our cabin. They disappeared Wednesday night. On the Facebook page for that cruise quite a few passengers posted that items had been taken off of their doors. That was the first time in five Irish cruises that had a problem with thefts.
Society in general not just cruisers
Enjoy hearing your complaints about complainers.
😁
Some people feel they have a right to speak their minds in any manner they wish. People need to practice patience.
"Misery loves company"
I would really like someone to study this apparent phenomenon of entitlement and poor behavior in travel. Social media seems to have something to do with it in respect to shallow Instagram bucket lists and main character syndrome with "influencers" but that doesn't cover everybody. When I read about people going to places and not bothering or caring to know anything about the culture or the people it just blows my mind.
No matter where you go, you will always run into rude people. On the bright side, you can always make fun of them, behind their back.
OK I need to cruise with you! :)
@@kevinbrubaker3707 Drunk cruisers are more entertaining than rude cruisers.
Nope, I make fun in front of them.
On a cruise I was in line at the buffet to get some bread. The lady ahead of me was screaming at the girl, cutting the bread.
When she left, I told the girl, do not let her steal her. It is her problem not yours. Just smile. Rude people are more and more, these days. Do not let them steal your joy.
There's a psychological phenomenon, where some people need the misery/trauma inside them to be on their outside. So they voice their internal misery, hoping to snag another person to agree with them. It makes them feel better. They will never feel better. Just ignore them, as you and Tony did.
Yes -- one reason we do not cruise anymore! People are rude, selfish, pushy, nasty, loud, inconsiderate, etc. They let their children run wild in crowded areas or in dining areas. No one has manners or graciousness. We'll do land drives and see places we've never seen.
I find there is always someone who stands out in my memory as a bad cruiser and/or traveler. There is simply at least one in every crowd. I agree that we shouldn't let them live rent free in our heads!
Rudeness due to full ships, crowds, diminishing service, quality, higher prices!! It’s getting to people’s nerves!! The flight of Air Canada- I believe that the passengers were so thrilled to just get out prior to a possible strike! Cruises, lots of changes, if you cruised prior snd see the huge difference!
I am a retired RN and had to do a psych rotation- we were educated that you really don’t know what some people are going through. Take a deep breath and reconsider the rude person!
It’s class of people.
Thinking they are entitled.
Also selfish, it’s all about Me.
Everyone thinks they are entitled.
Not everyone.
This has everything to do with how our country has been in the last 4 years.
And the colleges.
We have just returned from our third cruise. It was on the Carnival Luminosa to Alaska. Everyone was so nice and friendly - crew and passengers. So pleasant and relaxing. Such a nice change from what we have experienced whether cruising or at home.
Could be it's how you act and respond, good for you.
People feel no embarrassment now about rude comments. They will even say that if you don’t like it, get over it. Sad commentary on our world.
Just got off Carnival Glory this morning. Bartenders dreading next 3 day cruise. Said people on 3 cruises (not all) are rude, impatient and demanding. Felt bad for bartender.
That's why I never do less than 14, or the very least a 7-day B to B.. Plus I pick the port and Cruise Line.
Be the change you want to see.
I see more older passengers as being blatantly rude. For some reason they just don’t care what everyone else thinks of them and they just feel they can say crap that is rude. Obviously not all older people are like this but the majority of rude people that I have seen are old.
Yes cruise passengers are getting ruder. They have no idea how
to act on a vacation. It’s awful.
Seems to me people really changed after Covid, when we went back to cruising, we regretted it, ha e one more booked, not holding my breath anymore. So thankful we have great memories
because people went nuts over covid - the world since then whether travel, schools, just in general is a hot mess. people have retreated into their own social media worlds. everyone wants to be a creator, everyone wants their one minute of fame. and rude, is everywhere, as is entitlement - booze and drugs also playing a role in all of this disrespectfulness
I think it’s society in general. People are more rude and short than ever before. Sad when I am pleasantly surprised when someone holds a door open for me in public anymore. Seems ok to criticize someone and cut them down now than to be nice. People have forgotten to treat others the way you want to be treated 😥
In my opinion, with the cost of cruising getting higher, some people think that because they are paying more they are entitled to do whatever they want.
Not everything is about political views or generations. It's about that person thinking they are entitled to EVERYTHING that everybody else has. If we can just relax and accept things in stride, especially when on vacation life will be a little more enjoyable for EVERYONE.
Yep, and I went on cruises before, but I won’t go on them now because I’m not going to be trapped with terrible people and it seems like that is becoming more and more frequent. If you’re on a land-based vacation, you can get away when you have a prepaid for very expensive, trapped situation, vacation, and then things are bad. What then?
Rude isn't static. At the prices that are being charged and the poor service given for those prices, then they get what they deserve! I've worked in service industries as well as many other jobs. When things go wrong, you have people now who treat paying guests like its an inconvenience to actually have to serve people. No apologies for what went wrong, no going the extra mile to try and make up for it, nothing. Then just make the customers feel like its a privilege to be there and they should just take it a shut up. If they get rudeness they've earned it. Or you have the rich guests who are so used to being catered to that they expect others to get out of their way. But now you also have more and more people who are on social media like this, who now think the world revolves around them. Posting everything that they eat or do and think the world cares or should. It's the same people who go out the in do or vice versa and expect others to be fine with it. Or get into the 20 or less line with a full basket. There's just MANY more of these people now than there used to be.
I think a good number of people just need to get over themselves in general and be more mindful and considerate of their surroundings and others around them -- not everything is about them, nor should it be.
People have become self centered and entitled and that causes rudeness. I can’t imagine that rude people are happy. I am a happy person because I enjoy being kind to everyone.
I have been on two Princess cruises this year. Almost everyone I met was kind and helpful. No one was rude. Nor did they complain in my hearing. I don't encounter rude people in my daily life either.
Am I lucky? Or are there more non-rude people out there than most people think?
Not lucky at all, you described Princess. Thats why I cruise Princess., since the 1970's.
There is always at least one clown 🤡 in every group.
I think that while you may think they are miserable it actually gives many of them great joy to feel so special by berating a crew member or even criticizing another passenger.
I think it's because people are more stressed today. Everything is more expensive, yet wages have been stagnated for years. People are more stretched than they used to be. To make things worse, social media constantly tells people that because they don't have ____ they're losers.
Some people do nothing but complain. It’s like they live for it.
Perhaps it has something to do with the way the cruise lines operate today. I started cruising in 1991. Cruising was about getting away from the housel and bushel of the 9-to-5 of work. In other words cruising was an activity with out the hassle of this activity and that activity is now the cruise itself. Today, that’s all that cruise is. Today every think you do requires reservations (and you better get them before you leave your house). The hassle of dragging the kids everyway you go. Waiting in line. This isn’t cruising, this is your job (different location). No wonder so many are up tight. When do you relax? (not on the cruise vacation any more).
I have found that there are those individuals who just seem to have a need to always have something to complain about and so for many years now I have adopted the position that you might as well help them out and just give it to them.
That's because the fare prices are so high that it makes people feel entitled.
Sadly Don, Tact and Class have become endangered species in the age of "Me."
It is not just cruise passengers. Many people are feeling more entitled, feeling free to express their opinions-good or bad. Maybe it is all the press that the Karen and Kevin’s get.
I think people in general are ruder now, it's not just cruisers. Luckily for me I haven't met anyone rude on a plane yet, but definitely on our last cruise.
Don you need to go with me, I will just tell them. I'm just at the point where I will now tell people to shut up if they are being obnoxious.
There's a great line in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where Zaphod Beeblebrox is having a seance with his late grandfather. The old man says to Zaphod "we have a saying here, breathing is wasted on the living"
Well it seems to me that there's several people on cruise ships that could equally be applied to. 😂
Short answer is no…
Long answer is everybody seems to be getting more rude, more angry, more aggressive as we get away from Covid and maybe it’s because some of us still wear masks kind of. Just came back from a Hong Kong trip and during busy times around a lot of people we wear masks. But yes, this along with maybe some current political U.S. goings on people seem to more easier to fire off and have no problems firing off whether as before they might’ve kept it inside now they have no problems losing it.
It’s really hard to listen to complainers. Takes a lot of self control to deal with it.
Many people are not ashamed to "show out," and many people are looking for something to complain about.
The younger generations (millennials and Gen Z) have no manners and they are increasingly showing up on cruise ships.
I've seen it myself. Terrible attitudes and entitlement mentality...
Libs and Dems.
They’ve been told they can do ANYTHING, and not get in trouble 💯‼️
And see I've seen worse GenX and older that have been rude beyond imagine.
Really because I’ve seen a lot of entitled older people as well.
@@lightwarrior432stop making everything political.
Society as a whole is ruder.
Guess why…
Yes, more entitled. Especially a large group. Buffets and Elevator hallways are a free for all.
Used to be a pleasure to cruise, but with the cruise companies setting their focus on profits while ignoring customer satisfaction, they're experiencing what they've set up for themselves through staffing and amenity reduction and increased pricing. People want more from the money they've saved and spent and the cruise companies, IMHO, are falling short of what they've promised.
I have yet to come across rude people on a cruise ship. I consider myself lucky!!
Humans in general are more rude. But kind people do show up. It's a labyrinth😐
Communication. I have NO trouble with changes on a cruise or a flight. BUT. . . . . . I CANT STAND BEING LIED TO. Keep me updated. DONT LIE TO ME.
Easy…more people…more problems…from a lifetime loner….went I want…which is a lot…….have a great day!
Yes because they feel everything and everuone should revolve around them. The nerve of us!
I've been at that museum. It's fascinating.
People seem to be getting more rude everywhere. More and more people seemed to feel they are entitled.
Cruise lines should keep raising prices and keep the riff-raff off the ship.
Money doesn't buy class
People are just angry, the state of the world is in chaos and everybody feels it.
Many cruise lines are becoming Walmarts on water.
My husband and I was a truck stop for the night we went into i hop to get something to eat. We place our order and she screw up our order i said i don't want it. Wow we discussed our order to each other and said want didn't she understand. Couple in front but his nose into our business and i look at him and said my your own business and get out of my business and just gave us a hard time. After being on the road all day you just want something hot and to relax not have people given you a attitude people are very rude
Yes they are Don. Cruising is not as elite as it used to be. Just because people can afford to cruise doesn’t mean it suits them…or us.
More younger people cruising? More Americans cruising?More drinks packages?
Take your pick.
It seems like people in general. So many moans and rudeness on line seem to have crept into all walks of life.
I think many people want to share their "miserableness"
Favorite vacation? Vacation from what, the previous vacation?
Hi Don maybe people just don't know how to act.
Maybe they travel because everyone at home has shut down their crap so now they need to find a new audience.
I think people in general have shown an overall decline in common courtesy and consideration for others. Not just cruisers..🙁🙁. There's an apparent 'self absorbed' societal trend that shows no sign of correction any time soon.
I will admit I am older and slower than I used to be. I have been told that I should just stay home so faster people can enjoy their vacations.😎🌴
Usually the majority of people are cool & the few who are disgruntled ruin it for everybody. Have been on Fams (and sure you have too) where some fellow agents complain the whole time so it's not just vacationers. All The Best Don!
Misery loves company
I had a lady once tell me to slow down the ship wasn't going to leave without me. Lol
