The chief issue with the 'Supremes' (as a whole) taking the case is that THEY INITIALLY TURNED THE CASE AWAY WHEN JACK SMITH FIRST BROUGHT IT TO THEM!

In the meantime, during the investigations, Trump declared that he wanted to play President again (in the hopes that winning will allow him to escape the consequences of what he has done.) This "election interference" nonsense is a joke, especially considering that Trump was impeached for actually doing it twice and is now facing criminal charges for his fake elector scheme.
The Supreme Court judges need to be reigned in. Term limits and ethical rules need to be imposed, period.

Why didn't SCOTUS take up the case when Jack Smith requested them to hear it in early January? And now that SCOTUS has decided to take the case, why couldn't they have picked a much earlier date than April ? So frustrating.
1. They didn't take it to begin with because Jack Smith didn't follow the process of taking to District and then Appeals Court like every other case. 2. The only earlier date they could have picked would have been during the March 18th session, which already has 13 cases scheduled. Also they give the lawyers time to prepare their arguments. 3. If there is such a rush to get these cases in court prior to election day, why did the DOJ wait so long in the first place?
We are having the same response we always get in the face of evil doers and criminals. We are always in disbelief and can’t really believe they can be this mean and cruel. They are. Get over it and treat them as such. Stop the denial, they might even say he has immunity.
I believe Smith knew that SCOTUS was probably going to help delay the process. The outrage is justified but I see a possible silver lining...

In this particular moment in time I would think it's in everyone's interests to hear the evidence and go through the process, before the election. An informed voter is a better voter.

SCOTUS can eliminate all this confusion by 1 thing. Pull the Section 3 of the 14th Amendment Case off hold and remove Trump from the ballot in all 50 states. This option would take off everything and all questions with one stroke of the pen removing Trump from the ballot. No more immunity questions, no more worrying about losing democracy, and most importantly of all, no more Trump.
That would be the right thing to do but it's Trump. Heaven help our country.

Yes I believe he asked the court to take the case in early Dec in order to bypass the other courts. They declined to do so so now we are faced with another delay.
You don't just wake up one morning and approach the Supreme Court with a matter. The Supreme Court is majorly an appellate court, meaning that cases come to it from the Appeals Court, not from Jack Smith's table. I'm sure you've learnt something new today.

Smith had every right to do so but the court sat on their decision for months before setting a date. It took the court just a few days to decide the Presidential election of Bush v Gore.

There are two reasons SCOTUS take cases: 1) disagreement amongst lower courts, or 2) significant constitutional question. I think this falls under #2. I know people don't like it, or the delay, but. there IS a reason for SCOTUS to take this up.

The best explanation that I have heard so far is that some of the MAGA justices like Clarence Thomas (75) and Samuel Alito (73) don't want to die in office and would like to retire during a GOP president's term. This is why they want to make sure that Trump at least has a chance of winning so that they could retire sometime in the next 4 years. This is sickening. They would do anything, even gamble with democracy, to protect their MAGA gains and legacy.

@@joehigashi3584 I was fine with that ruling. What kind of democracy has an electoral college instead of a popular vote? Issues like that were bound to happen. We talk a big game about how the whole world should be democracies, but when it comes to our primitive democracy, we leave in place a lot of undemocratic features because...well it's how it's always been.
