I'm in a teaching class, because I want to be a teacher, and every year we take two days off school and go to a competition. My best friend and I decided to do the children's literature competition and from the start I knew I would bind it using a Coptic stitch, but now I think I should pair it with a wooden cover! It would add a great touch to our book! Thanks for the idea!! AND if we do well at our state competition, the national competition is in Phoenix!! Hah that's what brought my mind to you and then when I found out there was a book entry, I knew I had to do it!
@Lauren Fairweather - I totally agree! @Sea Lemon - Oh gosh that is so cool. I want to make one. Have you ever used Journal Master software at ummm what's that site....found it: wordboticandbeyond.com/product/journal-master/ - you ever thought to use that to create the pages of the journal, so they'll be decorated with lines and stuff? Like print out the pages from the software after you're done and make the wooden journal with those pages? I'd love to see you do one like that. I also like the Doctor Who DIY River Song's Diary, too. I'm so inspired by what you do. Time for me to go the store to get some supplies. :) An idea for long string issue is to kind of loop it around a finger or two on your other hand to keep it from tangling.
Thank you, Jennifer. I really love this one. I am working on getting my crafting area back together, but I would love to try this project when I am finished. :) Thanks for sharing!!!
Beautiful!!! 😍📚 Your work is so neat & precise...I have kids so I'm ususlly rushing my projects lol. I haven't bound a book in a few years now....I found walnut shells I want to make into accordion books. Hope that gets done before summer.
I had to like this video just looking at the thumbnail. still love the lighing, colors, and editting of the video as well as the detailed and easy explaination :D
I discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm loving your videos. The things you do are gorgeous and easy to follow, what makes me love even more haha congratulations on the channel! From your newest follower on Brazil :)
would love to see a piano hinge book binding tutorial. have you tried staining the wood? i think it would be fabulous. thanks for making and sharing your awesome tutorials. i have made many myself. i used the eyelets and instead of book board i used scraps of mat board.
Hi Jennifer, I'm a new subscriber, and loving your videos and tutorials! Can you make a suggestion as to what kind of adhesive to use to adhere very old paper, that is so crispy it just breaks if you are not careful, to a page in a new book? I want to preserve some of my favourite passages from a very old copy of Little Women by putting them into a journal. Thank You!
How well does this wood hold up? It looks quite thin. I am thinking of using it for a watercolor journal. I would probably varnish it too to protect the wood. Is there another type of cover you could possibly recommend that could work well for watercolor journals? Thank you so much! I love your super helpful tutorials!
I’m new to book binding and found a lot of your videos to be very helpful! I love this one and the idea of wooden covers. Could you do another wooden one but with small hinges to connect the wooden covers and one with leather straps? Seen some ideas like that on Pinterest but couldn’t find out how to do it...kept sending me to sites to buy them like that but I want to make my own. I would love it! Please help 😊
This is exactly what I was looking for! I have been wondering which wooden board to go with. Hoping you could answer my question: Could I made a book using this birch plywood material, with a spine? I have made so far 4 books where I started off with your textblock method and experimented with different board mediums. Just wanting to know if it'd work with the spine of the book (middle between the covers) if this was made out of wood, as it wouldn't be flexible? If you could answer this I would be very grateful :) Thank you xo
+Pretty Kitty Fever and a Chemical Romance yes! It was going to bug me if I didn't 😉 note to self: remember to proof read the numbers before uploading 🤓
Hi Jennifer, I am new to your channel. I love your book binding videos, and all of the ones I have watched so far! I was curious why you refer to your book sections as "signatures"? I have heard them called "quires" in the past. Is there a difference? Please keep the content coming!
This type of journals are just great please make more video's like this & yes why HGTV HANDMADE video's are not available in my country????? i live in saudi arabia 😊
Love this!! I want to create on for my architecture portfolio. At the moment i am using cut acrylic which i gorgeous but i think i want to change it up a little for the next one. How do you find the thread holds up when doing a larger book (say a3)? - LJ 😀
Is the reason you used plywood to make it thin enough to use normal bookbinding tools (the knife, awl, etc), or is there another reason to keep the cover thinner?
Is the plywood prone to splintering? i.e. after you sand it down and use the book for a while, have you ever got your finger snagged on a splinter? I've been looking for nice materials to make coptic-bound books from -- have mostly used cardstock and lego -- and if wood behaves nicely or can be made to behave with a sealant or something, that'd be great
Hello Jennifer!!! I saw this tutorial you have and I want to make the same but a square one 21x21 cm. My question is what distance should the stitches have between them?
well . 1. you are so cute and loving jennifer. and i mean you are great at art paintings. i just found ur channel some days ago i watched your video about lollipop and pizza phone cases and hit subcribe. love from dubai xoxo
Looking for some advice.... Do you think this is the best binding method for some pottery covers that i have made for a journal? Obviously they are heavier than this wood cover...
Hi, i have a quesstion for you. Or maybe it's a request... Can I use this method/design as a product for my project in High School? Im thinking of writing my own book and using wood like you did in the tutorial. I might have to add you as the source reference. Would you mind that? Thanks in advance :D : D
I'm having some trouble with the coptic stitch. I've made quite a few attempts but I keep having the same problem and am not sure what I'm doing wrong. The signature that is touching the cover is somehow not aligned with the cover or the rest of the signatures. It sinks in to the book, whereas the rest of the book is aligned properly. This happens to the signature on the back cover as well. What could I be doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've used anything from cardboard to plywood for my DIYs, and I've found that in general you want a lightweight, stiff cover such as plywood or pressed boards. I wouldn't recommend going much thicker than plywood, though, because it'll weigh down your book especially if it's ten signatures or less. I'd recommend heading over to her book cover video.
The style of this journal is beautiful!
Thanks! 😊
SoCraftastic it is
Sea Lemon hi hi hi
SoCraftastic OMG I LOVEEEE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! ♡♡♡

It's a good idea for signature book! For provincial wedding and etc. I love it! Thx for share!
Yay bookbinding videos! I never knew wood covers were so easy to make. I'll be doing this in the future. Thanks.
this was fantastic. I never would have thought of wood... thanks for sharing.
I really love the look of the cover, especially with a little 3D pop in the 'Hello' - good job 👍🏻
always love watching book binding videos!! thanks
Ahh I love it! I should make one for my bff (if I can remember,) but with inspirational quotes and memorable pictures of us

It looks so pretty and like a book I always wanted.

It looks great from the thumbnail!!
I've been wanting to do a wooden cover for a while. thanks for sharing this
it looks so classy! 😍 love these tutorials
I love your detailed explanations. Thank you!
❤️️ this is so beautiful I love the idea of a wooden cover and backing
A wood burning tool and a cool design would MAKE this. I'm intimidated by making the journal itself, but I'd love to draw/burnish an image on it.
it would be so cool decorating one of these with one of those wood burning tool things! or staining the covers a different shade!
I have been waiting forever for you to do honor these, so excited...
To do one of these, not honor...
I had to like this video just looking at the thumbnail. still love the lighing, colors, and editting of the video as well as the detailed and easy explaination :D

Absolutely love your tutorials!!
Do you think you can use a wood burning tool on the cover or is the material to thin?
This looks fabulous!
Me deu mais vontade de fazer um. Bom trabalho 😋👏

I would stain the wood for a richer look but I truly love this idea especially for a family book.❤

Pretty Kitty Fever and a Chemical Romance
Sea Lemon I love u
Interesting tutorial. How would you mind it using leather strips?
Wow!Neat craft😇
I love this!❤️😍
Since you have upgraded your camera equipment since that Coptic stitch tutorial, could you do a tutorial on coptic stitch in detail?
Hi Jennifer, I am new to your channel. I love your book binding videos, and all of the ones I have watched so far! I was curious why you refer to your book sections as "signatures"? I have heard them called "quires" in the past. Is there a difference? Please keep the content coming!

Is the reason you used plywood to make it thin enough to use normal bookbinding tools (the knife, awl, etc), or is there another reason to keep the cover thinner?
Do you think this wood is thin enough to cut with a hole punch, for example, the disc bound system?
Is the plywood prone to splintering? i.e. after you sand it down and use the book for a while, have you ever got your finger snagged on a splinter?
I've been looking for nice materials to make coptic-bound books from -- have mostly used cardstock and lego -- and if wood behaves nicely or can be made to behave with a sealant or something, that'd be great
nice design :) i meant to ask, is doubling the thread very important?
I would like to try making this cover combined with a spiral notebook. Or photo album.
Hello Jennifer!!! I saw this tutorial you have and I want to make the same but a square one 21x21 cm. My question is what distance should the stitches have between them?
Is it important to use a thicker thread like the one used in this video for coptic stiching? Or will a "regular" sewing thread (doubled) do?
Loooove it!
well . 1. you are so cute and loving jennifer. and i mean you are great at art paintings. i just found ur channel some days ago i watched your video about lollipop and pizza phone cases and hit subcribe. love from dubai xoxo
Looking for some advice.... Do you think this is the best binding method for some pottery covers that i have made for a journal? Obviously they are heavier than this wood cover...
Can you please make a video for a diy sketchbook? Btw love your videos.
Does the coptic stitch work on single pages as well instead of folded signatures?
you should sell your crafts. I'd love to purchase that wooden journal!!
You are always so awesome😉 you are like my caft hero😎 you always make my day when i am sad😭 #Craft Hero
hello, when you wax your threads the paper is not greasy in holes then?
v.v.v.v.good love it
THE RE UPLOAD REASON IS IN THE DESCRIPTION! READ IT!!
Hi, i have a quesstion for you. Or maybe it's a request...
Can I use this method/design as a product for my project in High School? Im thinking of writing my own book and using wood like you did in the tutorial. I might have to add you as the source reference. Would you mind that?

Love this🔥🔥🔥
YAS
Where did you get the Hello sign that you use on the cover?
Is it possible to use a thicker wood? Not much more maybe 1-1.5mm? What would be the issue if I did?
Hey, I'm wondering if it's possible to use single pages? I want to make this in a3 format for my portfolio!
Can you make more and more videos about bullet journaling
Mona Almadi yes .......
please do
Do you keep all the books you made?
I know this video was made awhile ago but how thick is that wood?
Can you make this with kettle stitch binding?
I just subbed!!
Can you use any kind of wood for this journal or does it have to be birch plywood?
***** hmm, I was wondering about thicker wood. Not so think I'd have to drill a hole in it, but maybe thicker than plywood
Is there a way to bind book without stitching?
Can you use a binding coil for your notebook
