Repitition builds tension. Also gives audience something to relate to. Guitarists can get bored with their own playing becsause they hear themselves all the time, but an audience doesn't so what you feel bored with sounds great to them.
Repetition Legitimizes
TEXAS...
"We don't mind the tourism, it's that 'stay-ism' that pisses us off."
-Ray Wylie Hubbard
I would go klaustrophobic in your darkroom.
Thanks for your guidance.
Love the chord/lick from Lenny - always sends chills. The Live at the El Macambo performance is a real inspiration. I had that on repeat for a whole year in college. (repeat...😊)
Totally agree. It’s magic stuff
That specific performance is a bit reason I fell in love with guitar. I totally agree, sends chills for me every time still too!
I use the drop live to carry less gear and enjoy it. There’s something great about a strat actually tuned down though….it just feels good and is fun to play.
The point of repetition is actually the RELEASE from the repetition. You're capturing the brain and when you let it go there's a natural response to the freedom from that sound.
Tension and release
Awesome lesson, and you've never taught a better course than your new "Under The Influence: Texas Blues - SRV Edition", and that's saying a lot when one considers all the super courses that preceded it! This new course covers every aspect of SRV's playing and sound: you said it all CC ! Thank you!
Okay I'll bite, this was out last week, I watched it, and now an updated version shows up unblocked. Why ???
BtW, love your stuff Corey, just confused as to why I have been seeing this same thing happening with multiple channels lately. Is this a RUclips issue or what ???
Awesome Lesson as usual, Corey! How do I acquire your SRV new course?
Thx so much! You can use this link!

Hi Corey fantastic stuff . do you teach picking up and down strokes for each licks in this course ? . I have a futore wish . a course with the three kings BB and Albert and Freddi i would love to buy that !!
If I recall, I do touch on picking. However, it’s mostly all alternate picking. You can see some of the preview lessons on the site and see if you like it. It’s a lot of fun!
Thanks Corey. Sound very good. So you just put your bassman on 4 treble on max and it starts cranch? I able to do it on my deluxe only on max volume, amp has a lot of headroom. Thanks again
Yes. Could be a lot of things with your amp. Speaker, tubes etc.
430 is the answer for everything
That tone!!! It sounds so good!! Your SRV playing is god-tier man!
So yeah I figured out this trick years ago playing around in bars-- its like when nobody is really paying attention and then you goof around and do this simple trill or something for about 15 seconds and you have the entire bar stop and watch you playing like you are gd Eddie Van Halen or something. It always cracks me up and so fun because most people think you're doing something really hard when you do that. Especially if you can continue over multiple chord changes. You literally can't mess it up. And then once you go back to doing arpeggios and string skipping really cuttin it loose everyone goes back to the bar and ignores you..classic. LMFAO.
Tension and release that’s good stuff.
Have you ever done a video on how you like your guitars set up? how do you like them to feel? You mentioned you're using 9's on this guitar but how about string height and neck relief? I've been fighting with my guitars lately because they feel so stiff!
And having giant hands + playing strings so heavy most people couldn't play them....doesn't hurt.
i haven't been into SRV "stuff" so much up to now...but im certainly inspired by you Corey from this little video...great stuff...cheers and thx....
i'll plug in the olde strat next time i play....
Damn dude… you can break it down to the basics… keep pushing these ideas… sorry I found you so late… so much good stuff! Thank you! 🙏🙏🦋
I love the tattoo- colors look great! 👍
Hey thx!
Corey, did you learn srv’s songs note for note in your past? Just wondering how to go about learning all of these
I learned a lot of them that way. Once you learn a few. You pickup on his. tendencies. That’s actually what the course is all about!
Very cool thanks !
Can you make videos of SRV classes?
Hi! I actually put out an entire course devoted to his style. Check it out here workingclassguitar.com/p/under-the-influence-texas-blues-srv-edition?coupon_code=LAUNCH50&product_id=4971939
Great lesson, lovely guitar, even Beethoven used repetition to effect (symphony no5), what can you say.....? SRV had got it all !
Thanks!
Corey, Thanks for the SRV licks. Loved the lesson. Have you ever done a Jimmy Page licks & tricks that sound like Jimmy Page, or Pageisms to make you sound like Page?
Glad you did! Not yet but, I’ll be doing little mini courses that are lick based. Should be fun and thx for asking
The first new vid since I became a subscriber, great job Corey - as always .. Your lessons are the best ... I have found that the combination of Eb tuning and heavy ( 13s ) gauge strings is what is necessary .. When tuned flat, the heavier strings will resonate and really work in conjunction with your hands - it is a sound thing, of course, but even more, it makes you attack and approach the guitar differently ... Thank again, no teacher on youtube has helped me more - your arpeggio vids are classic !!
Hey thanks! Great points! enjoy!
Apres Pilgrim league plus interressant sure la cochs
Amazing Amp Wall!
Thanks!
After seeing the Man the myth and a legend at about a dozen times.
It never gets old to hear some new insights and do my best to make it sound good.
Well at least to me.
Thanks Corey…
Wish I could have seen him once 😢. I hope you enjoy the video!
Play it twice and call it jazz
Thank you very much because your video help me !!!
My pleasure!
Super cool Corey. Thanks for the insight.
My pleasure!
Holy shit what a tone! 🤤
Another great lesson. Loving the new course, Corey!
Thx Stosh!
My favorite guitar instructor....
Thx so much!
Cool lesson thanks
You bet!
SRV tuned lower and he used extra heavy strings, though.
Well known but not everyone wants to commit to that. Hence the use of the pedal in a pinch
@@coreycongilio I get that, just pointing out how SRV did it. Ooops, Googled it, and SRV didn't have particularly heavy strings. He used custom guages: .013 - .015 - .019p - .028 - .038 - .058, somewhat heavy on the low side. Guess living in Austin, I don't as much as I thought about SRV.
@@FrederickWalser Oh yeah. Those are still pretty heavy though. Thanks for posting!
Had to add these licks to my arsenal’s
