Russell you can boil up those blackberries (we call them brambles here in Scotland) with lemon juice (you need the pectin) and a little water, strain through a muslin cloth and make bramble jelly. I still think you need to invest in a potato rake for those pesky beavers. Regards from Scotland ❤ Forgot to mention the sugar needed when making bramble jelly
Blackberry jam is my absolute favorite. I'd be out there picking them all. I love it on toast with a little butter and also in cookies (forgot the name). Oh, and pie! I'd also freeze a bunch of blueberries for pancakes. Would have to put on a bunch of bug spray as deer flies and mosquitos love me. Deer fly bites are painful! Those buggers are also persistent. Foraging for mushrooms looks like a fun activity and you could have quite the little stash if they were dried. Nice little illustration of your quad. It was so realistic that I wouldn't have known if you didn't mention it. Lol. You have a beautiful cabin and it looks so calm and peaceful there.
Interesting, you "regulate" the dams the same way the beaver build the dams, ONE dang stick at a time!! Amazing!! Tough too!! I have seen lots of beaver dam videos and they all use tannerite, (LARGE BOOM) back hoe, bull dozer, or excavator!! You are the only one who gets to it up close and personal!! I think I would tend to the tannerite group myself.. LOL More power to you Russel. Thanks for the video man.
You spoke of the oak tree that you cut down. Hardwoods maintain their root system and will continue to live on. Try this - it is absorbed into the leaves and attaches the enzymes in the roots. Apply it less diluted. TRACTOR SUPPLY - Get to the root and kill grass and weeds with "Compare-N-Save "1 gal. 41% Glyphosate Grass and Weed Killer Concentrate.
It's easy to cut your own hair with the trimmer aspect of your electric shaver. Just use a mirror and brush off while you're outside. Keep after it. I use a standard scythe to slice weeds like that, with a 26" (various sizes) Austrian steel blade. You may need loppers for the hardwood regrowth stuff. Berry pies easy to make. Freeze well. Bags of them! I would not pick wild mushrooms unless I had an expert standing next to me. You know why. And I'm a trained master gardener.
Thanks as always for an enjoyable and informative video. Can not believe how much growth there is in the area. Rain has been doing its job, plus helping with hopefully preventing the wildfires. Glad to hear that City Girl is back from her trip across the pond and will be back at the Cabin. You two enjoy. Take Care
Russ, I loved this longer video. Was fun content. The ending made me laugh out loud!😂 I'm no carpenter, as far as your new desk project goes, BUT, if I had purchased something like that for a desk I would find some old filing cabinets or lower standing dressers, one for each end of the slab, and set the butcher block right on top of them and of course secure them. But I do want to repeat for emphasis...I am no carpenter....just saying. Love ya my friend!🤎
Its funny how all the jobs you need to do out in the bush present their own struggles and need constant attention. In the city, their are other struggles and stuff that need our attention on a regular basis. Watching your videos just gives everyone a reality check on the work that is needed to live in the bush. Its totally cool to watch. Thanks Russel.
Russell as a suggestion...place a pair of clippers/lopers in the bucket with your spare boots. Maybe even leave a rack/pick in the area too. Seems you would frequently need them to tear down the 3 damns. Have enjoyed your videos for some time now...carry on carrying on!!!!
Do not go into the be beaver pond. Stop where you are. Turn away from it. Don't even look at it. Well, I think we all know you're going to go into the beaver pond. It's a part of the plot. So that is why the beavers said, "He's baaaaaaack!!" I enjoyed the hike, looking for the puff balls, and Willow snacking on the blackberries. You weren't joking about eating the puff balls, were you? I've just never seen them prepared so wonder how you do it. Whoa, that Timchili was quite sad looking, and evidently tasting. I've had the Stagg, and it lives up to its name. I do like a rather hearty chili. I'm going to try a Three Sisters Chili this weekend, with indigenous origins, using corn, beans and butternut squash, plants they grew together to save space. The mosquitos are awful this year due to a wet one. I use a little tiny clip on fan that has refillable cartridges of OFF, and it seems to work pretty well for regular flies, too. The deer flies would probably eat it for breakfast, tho.
Next time you are in the big city you should check out the Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains down on the CNE grounds. Was there a few weeks ago and loved it. Lots of great stuff in it. Think this is the first time that I have been the first commenter. Keep that water level down maybe me and "the Neighbours" will be up there soon. I haven't been up since last year. Also the 3rd viewer. crazy. Must be behind a few videos, as your ATV seems to have been downgraded...LOL
Russ, Your inverter, 240V input, probably is a rectifier feeding capacitors. This will draw peak currents only near the peaks of the sinewave and little else other times. Thus the current peaks will be higher than the transformer can provide. Your solution is a higher power stepup transformer. Check with your inverter manufacturer.
The bright yellow one is toxic, (we will not eat them. Not even after boiling them in water. Just our choice). Then next to it looked like a chanterelle (edible). The very large one with a small one next to it was a bolete. It when younger and yellow would be very tasty. We just harvested a bunch yesterday. Look up on the computer a chanterelle. Its delicious. We are in Northern MN and the chanterelles are out.
It was a good andceveryday natural type of video. I liked it. I also like the rounded edge of the desk toward me. I don’t like the sharp edge. You did a good job. Have a good week and weekend. ❤
I watched this yesterday on my big TV no way to reply so here I am lol. Those dam building damn beavers. When you were looking at the tractors and track hoe's and said just think what damage I could do with one of these, I was thinking the same thing. Get that small track hoe back there and dig the dam's out. When it came to the chili, I was thinking the exact same thing about the watery one. Looks like inexpensive Stag(isn't there a beer with that name?) would have been my choice from the beginning. It's scary that our two minds think alike lol. As usual another truly fun to watch video. Have a blessed week. God bless in all you choose to do.
Russell you need to make a bridge where the water runs all the time. It sucks that you have to deal with the beavers all the time. I takes more energy to run a mostly empty freezer. When you empty your freezer, clean it (wipe) out and then put some baking soda in a container and put in there.
At least twice I mentioned to Russell to acquire a "no noise vertical axis wind turbine generator" to supplement his power system. They are NOT overly expensive. But then that would be an excellent solution to one of his problems. So, there's that. I still like watching him though.
Thanks for the video👍👍👍❣️Your slice of Canada is beautiful💖💕 My husband went to Fraisure (wrong spelling) Lake in Ontario years ago before passports were needed. He went fishing with friends and had a blast and said Canada was great. Give the doggies hugs from me. Take care Russell😁🤗🤗
Russell IKEA sells screw in type legs. You mount the hardware and then you just screw in the leg. They're metal, they look great for do it yourself tables.
Loved the water crossing recreation 😂. I also appreciate the Jurassic Park quote. What was the deal with the picture for the video, (the snow)? Lol As always, another great video!
I have 3 heavily treed acres on a river in NE Ohio and if it weren't for some pretty big ones I would love to clear some more space myself for a garage and garden area. It's cost prohibitive to have someone else do it to the tune of 10-15k. I have been cutting down saplings and it does open up nicely to let in a little more light but the massive oak 2ft from the back of the house alone was quoted for 5k to remove with a crane. Ouch.
Great video as usual Russell, Your freezer will works more when there are empty spaces in it So place scrunch up newspapers and small cardboard boxes in the gaps.
Re: the deer flies....You can cut yourself a little leafy branch and swing that to the left and right around your head as you walk. Works wonders!! Our family has done that for generations when in the bush.
Hi City Girl, hope all is well. Have you seen the gazebo replacement netting various lengths and widths. Easy to install using dowls or curtain rods for your back porch. Gives Russell his flexibility to access water and work, and also allows comfortable place to enjoy your beautiful views. Puppies might also appreciate it! Lowes, Amazon etc. Best wishes!
Really enjoyed the video!! Chili was funny. The coming desk is going to be great for you. I'll take some of those delicious home grown berries please. Hope you and City Girl have a beautiful weekend together ❤️
😂 😂 Awesome thumbnail, cgi of the ATV going through the pond? Banging lol. The housefly Shenanigans LOL and the rest of the awesome mishmash of a video was just perfect for me, the length was perfect. Thanks Russell ❤❤ YASSS
Maybe with the desk, find a good base with a crappy top and change it out. The butcher block is nice. Maybe Ray would surely have a source. Pea soup. Not Tim's chili! 😄👍👍
You just need to get rid of the beavers. Then you can have a descent road put in and be able to get in and out to your property. You know the work they make for you is only going to get harder as you get older.
those machines would deff be a dream for u to clear your path and fill in some of the low spots for your machine .. with the desk look at ikea they have some filing cabinets that u can put at either end and the butcher block looks pretty nice ifi can find a pic of my brothers gaming set up ill tag it here , he use the ikea cabints and butcher block for his desk.
Those puff ball shrooms were definitely ready. Those other ones you turned over with the spongy underside were very mature bolet mushrooms. Edible as well but those were past their prime.
I cannot believe you licked that!!! 😫 Lol. Only you, Russell! I love your emergency stash! Perfect for when you need to clear the dam! The struggle is real! The water was SO clear you could see the bottom. That was a work out! Your recreation of the missing clip, hilarious 😂And I say... Chilliiiiiiiii...
For Amanita Muscaria you want to look around the Conifers first then look elsewhere because they do grow around deciduous trees also. The mushrooms found before the Amanita were of the Bolete family.
Swamp atv = hydrolock = new engine definitely not a good thing. Electrical thing sounds like the transformer, L1 and L2 should be equal 110ish on each one to make the 220-240v. I had some cheap ones to run 240v led shop lights in my garage and they were always failing. Finally was able to run dedicated 220 and ditch the transformers, no issues since.
Also, the minute you get home, find your clippers and put them on the four wheeler. Then they are already with the vehicle and you will have them when you are fighting the foliage
Russel could you not add to that Dam to make it a little wider and or provide a way for the water to flow down stream, then use the top of the dam to drive across? Just a thought,, Beavers happy and you. LOL

What is you brought a bucket of rocks every time you went across the pond areas and dump them. Over time wouldn’t you have a rock bridge ? It may take a while but if you did it every time it might add up. Likely a dumb idea.
This is what a found when looking up Amanita Muscaria. Although poisonous, death due to poisoning from A. muscaria ingestion is quite rare. Parboiling twice with water draining weakens its toxicity and breaks down the mushroom's psychoactive substances; it is eaten in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. It doesn't sound like a gourmet delight.
Great vid as usual! Btw, why are there wood pallets out there, including home made? It's like in the middle of nowhere. Could you reuse them to build up a bridge that you can drive over better than the mud? Much respect in general, even for just the dang horseflies! Hates those evil things.

You are a genuine nice guy, Russell. I hope you & City Girl are well. Great vlog.
Nice video I enjoyed the walk with the dogs and seeing some of the area you live in. Keep up the good work enjoy and be safe.
This was fun. Thx for doing this and sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍

I’d look into renting that little excavator to tear down those beaver dams then install some beaver proof culverts
It gets hot, but trousers and long sleeved shirts are essential for bug control. (Yes, buy the tractor! 😂)
You just need to get rid of the beavers. Then you can have a descent road put in and be able to get in and out to your property. You know the work they make for you is only going to get harder as you get older.
There are a million beavers out here. I could get rid of half of them, and they would completely repopulate by next year.
Yellow Shrooms. So funny you mentioned them. I loved your content this week. 😊😊

Hello Russell always a awesome video I always enjoy watching it enjoy your weekend Rosa
The reenactment of the beaver dam crossing is fantastic LOL
🤣🤣🤣 Your animation when you forgot to use the GoPro. 🤣🤣🤣
PS when you turn off a freezer or fridge keep door open at least an inch and place a box or two of baking soda for smell.
I don't want crap getting in there. It would get really dirty with the lid held open.
place chicken wire with a tarp over it no little varmits or trash give it a go.

You could build you a log road if you keep collecting them from the beavers
Maybe you have cabinets left from your kitchen remodel you could use for your desk?
The ... bridge of ... DOOM.
Coghlans works pretty good
A lot of interesting stuff in your video today.
