LOG CABIN ON THE RIVER | Chinking the Cabin (with a dog)

- In 2018 when I paddled the St. John River with Gracie, we came across the old cabin at Flaws Bogan. An old Maine Forest Service cabin from the 1930's/40's. It was in rough shape and in need of maintenance so after completing the river trip I contacted North Maine Woods. The director agreed to hire me to make the repairs necessary to preserve the cabin. In this video I return to chink the exterior of the cabin. #logcabin #offgrid #cabinbuilding
This cabin is an official North Maine Woods campsite and is open to the public on a first come first served basis.

Greetings from Pakistan.Great work to preserve this beautiful cabin.I really appreciate your hard work/efforts and skills to renovate this cabin.People will enjoy their stay on this beautiful location so close to nature.Keep working and smiling.
Many thanks
Thank you so much for doing what you do to preserve these cabins. It's amazing to watch your process and see how beautiful they come to life. Also a big shout out to Gracie and whisper in her ear for me not to mess with any bears again... we love you guys.
What could possibly be better than this? A man, his dog and the great outdoors. 👍 The music is always top notch. 👌
No bugs? Regards
lol
What could be better? A man, a woman, two dogs and the great outdoors. :D

@@TheMaineWoods Touche! Don't forget the bugs.
Just call me crazy but I love the sound of rain on a tin roof
Man you got it made
Triple Amazing video! Love the part where Gracie found her pretty stick from the water, rushing to see you (LOL) and got caught in the rope with which the canoe was tied. She tripped but walked like a pretty little lady that she is. As always the memory verse from John 21:25, whenever I came across this verse "I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen" makes me wonderstruck how much Jesus must have done in the 33 and a half years when He was in this world. Thank you for this wonderful video. Now I am waiting in line for the next one.
Here in Guam bugs of all sorts and plenty of mosquitos.....outside for any length of time, most will keep a smokey fire going which repels most bugs. The best to burn here for that is coconut husks. So most have huge piles outside ready.
I love seeing how you prepare for just about everything you possibly can! And love the bug free tent for you and Gracie to be in outside…my dog would rather be outdoors than in….unless thunderstorms going on then he wanted to hide behind me or in a tent inside the house I would build for him. Much to my sorrow and heartache my doggy passed away after having a stroke Feb 2022….a short time after my husband had back to back heart attacks. Your videos along with Gracie bring me much happiness and joy…thank you. You have a beautiful place.
I’m very humbled by that and it really means a lot to me, thank you
It's Cory & Gracie 😄😊
Them Maine woods are GREAT ! Spent one summer as w kid rowing the streams to Moosehead Lake with the YMCA/New Haven and another as a soldier with the 309th Combat Support Hospital/Army Reserve. 🇺🇸
It's better than Church.
I really enjoy your videos. Especially seeing one praying & reading his Bible. Luv Gracie...❤
👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ such a good video I love the way that you keep it clean, and other people that used it We'll keep it clean, too thank you for Sharing it have a good dayRJ from USA😊
That's how it should be but not everyone leaves it the same way
Looks very nice, thank you. Very sorry that you and Gracie got ate alive with the bugs. Pray that you do not get sick from them. GOD bless and be safe.
Thirty years ago, I spent a lot of time camping in Maine. Always made a trip to LL Bean and Ben and Jerry's. Your donuts have me thinking. Love your Gracie, good company! My German Shepherd/solve mix, is always playing around, making me laugh. Great video.
Luv these episodes of wild Maine nature and cabin repairs.
Gracie loves her canoe rides. Nose always going in the air.😁
So true!
We just came across your channel. We love it! I know this is one old videos. We got some catching up to do. Its real good to see a good Christian man pray! Thank you
Welcome
My family owned a lakefront camp in maine, have great memories spending summers there with my 2 beagles,im old now and every summer I think of those good times, my late parents and dogs-thanks for the awesome videos, reminds me how nice Maine is, except the bugs !
Hi Mate just thought you should know that the intro music is the Same: that Shawn James uses in My Self Reliance - RUclips
Oh yes, he’s a big influence
Thank you very much for uploading this, so beautiful country. Showing the cooking always adds to the content.
Great work Cory and thank you. Gracie seems to be such a joy to be around. And the Maine Woods are stunning. Reminds me of my birthplace in Northern Michigan and trips to Ontario Canada in the Summertime. Black flies and mosquitoes are voracious and relentless. Music goes well with your content. God bless y'all and have a safe and Happy 4th of July. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee. Oh, and steak and eggs for breakfast, Mmmmmm, sounds like a plan for tomorrow morning......
thanks John
Best dogs ever is my unbiased opinion.
Thank you for all of your hard work, please get some rest 😎
I like your chandelier! Great to see that you love the written word and the Word made flesh. Gracie snores like Sadie used to!😊I think I would look for some camo fire plugs that smell like old boots or something.😂Great video. (Have you tried Nessmuk's bug repellent formula?). I can't get in any weeds here, much less the woods without permethrine. The turkey mites,(White spotted deer tick"babies"), are fierce here in Grayson county, Ky. I live in a 900 acre hunting reserve that is wonderful, but the first year renting the house here I had turkey mites from the side of my foot up to my right shoulder. Mr. Clorox bath and I became well acquainted!😵💫Thanks again to you and Gracie. Yours in Prayer, Rick Trumbo.
Absolutely masterpiece once again Thank you 😊
Thank you
POOR Cory and Gracie, it was; 'WHOA INTENSITY' bugsI I've heard that you should always leave a place 'better' than the way U found it, and U surely have accomplished THAT! U R also 'one heck of a weed whacker' and this job done on 'self' power! WELL DONE! Nice drone filming. Even though the bugs were bad, I must say that when U R slim, it is soOOooo much easier 2 bear the heat and bug combination. U have 'many' things' 2 B grateful 4. I am grateful that U shared this vid. Continued health and God Bless! :)
My husband and I love your stories. Also love your pup!!!
Good Morning TMW Cory and Gracie 👋🏻. I'm still amazed at the beauty you bring to us in your videos. Thank you Cory 👍🏻👍🏻. Stay safe and God Bless y'all. 🙏🏻✌🏻❤😊
Get some bug spray. Deep woods off is my go to. Hope it works for you. You are just a thrill to watch your well done videos. Keep them coming please! Thanks for your presevation. And your reality in the Maine woods.
Nasty bugs!!!!! When I have gone to the Adirondacks, they take all the fun out of being there.
Kind of like all the traffic in a city, not that I have much inclination to go to a city.
Gracie sleeps soundly, a clear conscience
Lol, that makes one of us
great seeing you and Gracie in your natural setting you guys..the cabin is so beautiful man. I love stockade cabins very much. I am in the beginning phases of building my 12x14 stockade cabin today.
Thanks so much again for sharing your time at the river cabin.
✌️ and may God's love always be surrounding you bro
Nice, what state are you building in?
What a beautiful place!!
It really is!
@@TheMaineWoods I think you have an amazing job that you must love! To be out in the woods like that would be wonderful. I am 52 years old and disabled so I live through all you out there posting and showing the beauty of the wild country. Thank you for sharing with us all
You crushed it despite the weather and pests!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks to you and Gracie
Last year the cabin was really beat up. Now, the finished product looks beautifull. Great job, well done!
Good work my man. Peace be with you .
Awesome job! Those cabins are great and I’m glad you are keeping them up for future generations. Thanks for sharing Cory!
Your editing/filming has progressed so much Cory, keep up the good work. It must be bitter-sweet to have the cabins complete, I look forward to the next one.
Thanks Jake, glad you got to watch this one
Another good job done! I was getting tired, just watching you? Take it easy for a couple of days!
Howdy Cory- great job getting the cabin repaired and ready for occupancy for someone to enjoy the outdoors. We don’t have the black flies to deal with but the mosquitoes and chiggers will carry you off. Great video brother. Take care and God bless you
Thanks Paul
Looks awesome thank you. Sorry about the bugs you deserve a great rest time.
Another stellar work session! Great job. Beautiful country. Lovely dog.
I dig that bug shelter. great video as always brother
It’s no Jeremy Grant film
@@TheMaineWoods Your right there even better

Sorry for the bugs thanks for the video God bless brother
Thanks 👍
The finished product with nearly 2 seasons of intensive labor looks amazing.
👍👍Awesome job!!!
Sorry about all the winged biting demons.
Growing up in New England I know all too well how terrible the Blackflies especially can be this time of year.
What a cool spot
I hope you get to check it out sometime
@@TheMaineWoods we will make it happen for sure
I would love to just go camping with you and eat the amazing food you always prepare! Lol
Good Work👍🏻
God bless you✝️
Greetings from Germany(Stuttgart)🙋🏻♂️
👍
Love watching your videos.❤️
Well done Cory. Love these videos and the blessing of your simple thanks for meals, your bible readings and you evident love of the environment God has placed you in. Simple - but tough at times - like the Christian life. BUt keep feeding on the real meat and you'll get along well. Happy 4th July - from Scotland!
Awesome job Cory !
Thanks
Try using a bounce sheet that is used for the dryer, they work great to repel mosquitos and flies, works here in Ontario anyway, good luck , love you videos
Cool, thanks
Like your channel ... doing a great job
Thanks
Thanks for the video. After the daily grind it's nice to escape sir.
Make a camp cook book? Making me hungry 😋
"Chinking the cabin (with a dog)." Isn't that kinda hard on the dog? LOL! Just kidding! Great video. We would love to have a cabin like yours here in Wyoming, but we're in our mid 70s, and just enjoy watching folks like you kids building your dreams! God bless!
👍
Nice work ty for sharing
Greetings from Ontario Canada…..Happy 4th of July
Check you PO Box after the holiday. Happy 4th!
Thanks 🙏
Love the videos
I've never ran across an outboard mounted on a canoe before. hoping you will show the setup up close in future videos. Hi Gracie!
Not uncommon when you need to cover some distance and the purpose is not just recreation. I don't think it's just a New England thing. Wife and I are looking for a small used outboard for our canoe when we head out for our wild cranberry picking in late October.
sure
I'm guessing a 20 or 21 Scott canoe. It is odd to see a motor in a canoe if it's not Square Stern. Like a grand Laker or a Scott. I am from Maine. Hard to tell where you are, but it definitely reminds me of home. Nicely done. Keep up the good work
I'll trade you on heat. North Texas century Temps off an on since at least June but you can keep the bugs lol. Fire starter. If you have pine trees look for a dead on preferably on the ground. Bottom limbs at the joint with the trunk. I grew up calling them pine knots but today they call it fat wood. Burns like it's soaked in gas almost. God bless.
👍
Outstanding work, but I have no idea how the two of you were able to handle the bugs! Regards
It was brutal
@@TheMaineWoods Got a fav brand of spray that actually works?
I just found your channel, and my interests are peaked. Seems like we have a ton in common.
I'm also from Maine and grew up wandering the woods on our farm.
If you ever want a hand with one of these projects, give me a shout. You're living the dream
👍
Awesome….
Corey, set up a cash app account. Awesome job Corey and Gracie!!! God bless you both!!
Beautiful work!
cool.
you seem to have a nice tool for cutting hay. I wonder how it is made. I am looking for this kind of tool to cut the hay at my camp. thank you.
Have you tried Listerine as bug spray? It's not as good as bens 80% but it's better than off and being an antiseptic it makes it all the better reason to carry it in a pack. Also.... Idk your budget but have you looked up freeze dryer meats ext? Thrive life has freeze dryer meats and more. It's light waight and last a long time. Easy to reconstitute and cook. Be at least a good emergency carry for when your out of ice.
It's nice to see videos from Maine. I watch alot of RUclips and I haven't seen many from our state.
I am familiar with freeze dried meals and thrive life, I'm not a fan of them although you make a good point about having some as a backup
Hey that's the music Shaun uses
Yes it’s from RUclips audio library where all creators can use royalty free soundtracks
Been watching your channel. Really enjoy. I'm not sure how to contact you but I have a couple pieces of property in Springfield Me. I need the lines marked and I have about 25-30 trees I need taken down. Didn't know if you might be interested? We have a nice e camp you could stay in or a nice raised platform out in the woods with a nice view of KATAHDIN. The more trees taken down the better the view will become 😀Thanks Harley
Do you prefer the vertical running logs or horizontal. Vertical seems like it might shed water better but harder to build?
I like the look of horizontal but vertical is much easier
What river is that ? Absolutely beautiful !
Love your puppy. Where can we send something
I just got a new po box setup at po box 3012, skowhegan ME 04976
You are an incredible young man and and I appreciate that you give thanks to God. My husband and I are retired; married 53 years. Maine is so different from our Carolina beaches. You must come see our blue mountains!
Your channel is the best Cory. I truly enjoy seeing what The Maine Woods looks like and how you all live. Your landscape and how you navigate it, is very different than The West. Thanks for your hard work filming, editing and living The Life. Anticipating the next episode! Best Wishes and Blessings to you and Gracie. 🙏🌲🌲🛶🦌🐕🚶♂️ P.S. So thrilling to see a Bobcat!
Thanks 👍
Have you given any thoughts to those ready to eat meals where you just add hot water? I hear they’re pretty good.
I’ve eaten plenty, i hate them
want to be careful those tools hanging on the wall dont grow legs great job on the cabin though
If you have ever been to the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota the bugs are the same as in Maine. They will eat you alive. 👍
Last summer was particularly bad with everything from black flies, mosquitoes, deer flies, ticks, and the asian lady beetles in the fall
Hi, what do you use for chinking the cabin? (and how the old material for previous chinking ended up?)
You didn't have mosquito coils (for the night) and bug repellent lotion/spray for the days ??
no, neither did the pioneers
@@TheMaineWoods Then why the outboard engine and all your other modern equip & cons, if you are are being true to the "pioneer" spirit ? Seeming hypocritical and well sorry, plain stupid. That is only my opinion. You are, of course, free to offer yourself as insect feed if you feel you must. Nice job with the cabins, for that respect.
What part of Maine are you in? Ever been to Linneus?
if by chance you drink starbucks or tim hortons coffee get a tray, smolder them in a fire, they will help keep the bugs at bay
Those bugs are atrocious this yr. Cory, did you notice there are many many rabbits this yr? The lynx will thrive.
👍
👋😎👍
👍
I want to camp there. I'm in Ohio
You can
What's the outboard hp you're using?
As my wife and I watched, she mentioned 75 when she saw it. So a 7.5 hp would be my guess. Seems a bit high, but I don't know the length of his canoe and at times he does carry quite a load in it, so seems appropriate.
@@pinetree2473 It does seem high for a canoe, I had a 17' square stern with a 2.5hp. Worked great.
21' xl tripper with a 7.5hp evinrude
@@TheMaineWoods That's kind of funny. Years ago I had a 21.5 ft. center console with a 150 hp. outboard that I primarily used for scuba diving along the northern MA and NH coast.
There has got to be some all natural bug repellent you could use. I am thinking anyway. Hate to see you and Gracie in such a state of discomfort.
a smoky smudgy fire is the best natural repellent
My only problem is your so out of sync with your timeline of posting your videos,. Sad part is I enjoyed them.
Awsome👍👍
