This waiata speaks of the changing nature in relationships between lovers. It metaphorically expresses the journey of life and love through the symbol of a fern leaf on a river. At times the leaf is at the mercy of turbulent rapids and rushing water, other times its excited by the swift currents or caressed by the deeper, calm spots in the river. All currents eventually flowing towards the sea: the symbol of boundless unity.

This song always hits hard for me. Lost the love of my life 5 years ago. He was Maori and I always loved hearing of his mother's culture as our relationship flourished. I miss him so much. The tears never stop while this plays, but I suppose it helps a bit. Still feels as it was yesterday that he left us.

Tino ataahua te waiata. I first heard this waiata at my nephews wedding and i thought what a beautiful waiata. Not quite understanding the kupu but definitely felt the aroha, passion, soul and wairua. Bought tears to my eyes with feelings of gratefulness, thankfulness and humility. This will be my song to walk down the aisle on my wedding day on the 30th January 2021. Nei ra te Mihi Rob and Maisey for such a beautiful waiata.
