  • July 3, 2016 - Goose Creek State Park, near Washington, NC. 8.0 miles.
Early morning thunderstorms mean rain above, swamp water below. Lots of wildlife, lots of bugs, but a beautiful park despite it all.
My route was a flattened lollipop:
From Visitor's Center, take Palmetto Boardwalk to right on Ivey Gut Trail, past the campground to Goose Creek Trail (side to Flatty Creek), enjoy the beach at the Pamlico River, then take Live Oak and Huckleberry Trails to Mallard Creek before using the Tar Kiln Trail to close the loop and finish via the Palmetto Boardwalk again.

I love you video and exposure to this awesome park. I discovered it on a hike with my Brother in Law who lives in Chicowinity. The boardwalks are amazing, and I love how you used your selfie stick to show it off

Thanks! My inlaws are in Chocowinity as well. I actually just have a camera strapped to a trekking pole - so it's a very multi-purpose stick. =)

Skunks are notorious for digging up and eating turtle and snake eggs.

Good thought! I hadn't considered that a skunk might be the culprit.

@@FlyingSquirrelOutdoors When I was a kid my dad and I watched a skunk following a box turtle as she deposited her eggs and digging them up to eat them. This particular turtle was digging nests in the dry soil and laying a single egg in each nest. Which makes sense for survivability unless you're being followed by an egg-hungry predator.

Yeah that only works if your egg locations stay secret!

    Do you ever see snakes

Sure! All the time. In fact there's a non venomous water snake at the end of this particular video. 😁

I walked from the RV Campground to the visitor center, then the boardwalk trail over to the main road then almost to the swim beach and back tracked. About 10,000 steps. That was plenty for me in upper 80s. And I'm 70 years old lady added to the mix. Definitely bring bug spray and water to hydrate. Interesting video young man!

Thanks! I hope I'm still doing this in my 80s! ;)

@@FlyingSquirrelOutdoors I'm 70 but the temperature was upper 80s. I hope I'm still doing it too when I get that old 😊
