    Three Houses blew my mind when I first played it, and Engage came nowhere close to that hype. However, a few things Engage did better are the graphics and battle animations, the overall battle mechanics and the Emblems bringing back classic moments from series history! However, Three Houses overall felt like a more grand and traditional package, especially in the music and voice acting.

    Three Houses was my first FE game and had me hooked instantly by the story and gameplay and I binge played all 4 routes + the DLC. When I got Engaged I was pretty disappointed from a writing perspective, but the gameplay was superb and I noticed a huge upgrade in it from TH (and graphically as well). TH is basically made to be re-playable, and I felt like Engage fell short of that, as well. Overall I still enjoyed TH much more than Engage since the story felt mostly very strong to me with good gameplay, and the Engage writing was so laughable at some parts it took me out of the immersion. Apparently two different teams made the two games, so my hope is that the next release the working team can combine the strong story elements of TH with the strong gameplay of Engage and make an elevated final product.

      Imo there is no such thing as best place to start fire emblem, but there are games that should not be your first experience those are Fire Emblem 5 : Thracia 776 because the game is hard if you're not familiar with fire emblem and it has twisted mecanic, Fire Emblem : Radiant Dawn because the story it's the sequel of Path of Radiance so you'd miss a lot of things in the plot. Aside from these all are good, it will depends of what you want to have an emphasis on : story or gameplay etc.

    I feel like engage was a lot like fates in its story. It was very ambitious and had promise but somehow they just couldn't quite tie it all together to make it interesting or flush it out enough. 3 houses had this issue too but I feel like they did a better job of it and had more time for us to get to know and care about the characters

      @nahte123456 Год назад +5

      As a Fates fan I rather disagree. Fates had a great STORY, it was let down by the writing. Like if I just made a bullet point list of plot points there isn't a single thing wrong or disappointing with it and just about every complaint you see about the story, like Norh being 'evil' or the Throne revealing things, all of those are answered. There's really nothing but positives about the Fates story, it's how it's delivered that's just all kinds of fucked over.
      Engages story is just kind of lacking, it's a straight line with several holes in it and choices that just don't really work. You need a pretty fundamental rewrite to fix things like fighting the Hounds multiple times or building up how the Emblems reappeared in the final fight or how the Miracle worked.

    • @nintenbroalex
      @nintenbroalex  Год назад +1

      @@nahte123456 yeah I feel like engage had a “anime plot line” style thing where things worked because they worked but fates had a weird structure where you play so much game BEFORE your choice matters that may completely change your perception on the game (I.e. I purchased conquest as my first EVER fire Emblem game and I took a while to actually finish it because I disagreed with my own “side” that I purchased I couldn’t do anything about it because the way the game is structured is you buy the side you want to be on without any real knowledge of the characters until it’s too late and even when I did complete ALLA of the stories, there are still many things that you don’t know or things that we’re just kind of lost over or thrown in (which was later confirmed by the fire emblem developers because they wanted to do a lot more with it, but couldn’t do too much since the 3DS cartridge size was too small.) I feel like if they took their time to fix the story and pacing and make it where your purchase seems less of a “welp too late to change your decision” and give you a reason to WANT to stay with your side even after your purchase, then I’d be in higher spirits about it. Not to say it’s a bad game because the idea behind it is what led to three house, but I feel like it was ahead of it’s time and a bit rushed, but that’s just my opinion.

It might have morw things to do, but they get stale very quickly(I say as someone who got bored of fishing in Three Houses after like 4 playthroughs) but Three Houses hub is much more story-connected hub than Engage. You dont get any intel in Somniel about whats happening, minus some rare instances of the royals reacting to the plot. Compare that to the NPCs in Garrag Mach, who have unique dialogue for every month, which really elevates the area from just 'a hub' to something with its own life.

    From my experience, Three Houses would've been better if I hadn't taken a second glance into the story, it makes some rather questionable choices, and I feel like comparatively, the plotholes in Engage are far more excusable, because where Three Houses is going for a somewhat deep narrative with a lot of nuance, Engage is going for an almost shonen good vs bad feel and it nails what it needs to to accomplish that

    • @tirex3673
      @tirex3673 Год назад +2

      I have the exact opposite experience, I can overlook some of three houses flaws, because of how ambitious it is. I have problems with every route and there is some level of missing finish at many spots. (VW and to a lesser extent AM being (superior) copies of SS in a way, that feels like it holds all three of them back, and CF being shorter and missing cutscenes.) However, I can overlook those flaws, because the problems in the grand scheme of things are small enough for me to be able to ignore them, while enjoying the characters and lore. (I want to note here, that Ambition doesn't always save a story for me, see Fates, which might have been a good concept and shows some promise in theory, but whatever they started with, is so mangled by bad writing, that I can't tell, if it was any good in the first place. (Though the Fates Manga is pretty good, and probably the best was to experience the half of Revelation, it covers.)).
      In contrast, while I do like parts of Engage's story, even some parts that are more controversial, It gets hard to ignore, that a few times, it feels like, there is some scene missing, or the villains seem to be able to just do things with little explanation, how, also It doesn't help, that some characters in cutscenes seem to just appear there to stand around and watch. It also doesn't help, that the one thing, I do find the most interesting, feels under explored. The characters do have some stand outs, but it's not enough.

    • @Ultimabuster92
      @Ultimabuster92 10 месяцев назад

      Maybe because it wasn't really what Byleth said, but the fact that Rodrigue died, which was a huge blow to Dimitri that forced him to wake up? Byleth played a part but wasn't the main reason for Dimitris recovery. It was essentially Dimitri's fault that Rodrigue died. If he had not killed Randolph in such a brutal manner, Fleche wouldn't seek revenge as much and she wouldn't have thrown everything out of the window just to kill Dimitri. And if Dimitri had listened to others, he wouldn't have invaded the empire yet and instead returned to Faerghus first to settle things at home. These were HIS mistakes and he paid the price with Rodrigues life. You can't give that to Byleth just because he/she talked to him afterwards.

    • @emblemblade9245
      @emblemblade9245 10 месяцев назад +2

      The worst part about 3 houses is realizing that because every route is treated with the same amount of “rightness” in the narrative, nothing actually matters and all you accomplish is figuring out which real world ideology you like best.
      At least in Fates, even discounting Revelation, you fight two completely different campaigns. 3H is fighting Edelgard 75% of the time and joining her against a strawwoman of Rhea 25% of the time.

  • @GermoDante

    Three houses is better in character design, story, dialogue, voice acting and overall Fire Emblem feel (It takes itself seriously).
    Engage is better in the graphics, gameplay and animation department, it's a better Fire Emblem gameplay wise.

I can't even purchase the current weapons and items(especially the master seals) in the shops because the battles felt like they're to difficult. This is on Normal difficulty and Casual mode. Hot take time! I feel the supports flowed better in engage. Don't misunderstand however. Three houses has amazing supports. But I really feel like some dragged on a bit long. Not in a boring way. Just could have been a bit shorter. I have a game to play man.

    Honestly Three Houses to me is a game that got worse the more I played it. Not just having to go through the same maps so many times. The story also barely changes, outside of Chrimson flower, between the routes. Only some details change. This caused me to care less and less every following playthrough and looking back, I kinda regret doing them.
    Engage has the gameplay as the hook. Three Houses does not have that. Even when on easier difficulties Engage useses its systems in an interesting way. It makes it the more fun experience in my eyes.

      And that’s totally fair; for me, even though the stories weren’t all too different, it’s still more story than what engage got, but yes, the gameplay was a little lackluster; if I could get a fire emblem with engages gameplay and three houses story structure, it would be an 11/10 for me

    Three Houses was my first Fire Emblem game and Engage was my second, that here's my comparison between the two Switch games: Gamplay(not including exploring but battle only) in terms of gameplay they both have great game play but one thing about Engage's game play that I don't like is that it's a gameover if Alear dies in battle this was not in Three Houses. Story: Three Houses wins by a landslide.
    Characters: Three Houses has amazing characters
    Graphics: We can all agree that Three Houses had terrible graphic for Switch standards, Engage wins by landslide, a nice attention to detail that I love about Engage's animations is the facial animations if an ally has low HP they will bend over in pain and put their hand on their chest and if they're engaged and have low HP, they will bend over put their hand on their abdomen. This was not in Three Houses
    Music: I just think that Three Houses has more memorable battle music, that said there are some battle music in Engage that I absolutely love: Royal Confidence, Royal Confidence(Might), Bright Sandstorm, Bright Sandstorm(Fiery)
    Re playable: Because Three Houses has 4 routes (5 including DLC), Three Houses has more replayability than Engage due to Engage only having one route.
    Based on what I have said Three Houses is better but Engage is a great game if you give it a chance.

    The story in Engage is nothing special just like you said, but it has some major issues with the gameplay as well such as:
    1, The game doesn't tell you that a character only obtain SP points if it equipped with a ring (emblem or bondring) it just says that SP can be obtained by battle and there I was with Louis with only 300 SP sice the moment i met him and yet Kagetsu reciving a ton of SP points.
    2, The chain attack mechanic is bullshit! It nullifies the effectiveness of your tank units it doesn't matter if they are regular tanks or dodge tanks they will be olbliterated by it. And no you can't bring up Pair Up (Corrin's skill) you can aquire that just later on the game.
    3, You constantly have to sacrafice your units to complete a chapter or paralouge with I hate to do. I've never played a Fire Emblem game in classic mode but i always rewinded time when one of my characters died, because I wanted all of them to live to the very end. But not here!
    4, There are waaaaaay too many reinforcements for your opponent wich is the most disgusting mechaninc in every fire emblem game. And sometimes they send in the units into the shadows wich I can't see! How the hell am I supposed to prepare for that?
    It's just like when you play chess and you locked the centre, rerouted the knights to one side of the board an you are ready to launch the pawns and suddenly after moving one a 3rd bishop from outside the board comes in and takes your rook. And you say:
    "What the hell was that?"
    "Reinforcements! I can call upon units outside the board!"
    "OK so how can I have them?"
    "You don't!"
    "OK so how will I be warned before they come in?"
    "You don't!"
    All of this made me get the game over screen 6 times in a row on hard mode. And a couple days ago ragequit as well.
    Fire Emblem Three Houses is the best Fire Emblem game and this is just brain cancer! I regret buying it!

    • @nintenbroalex
      @nintenbroalex  Год назад

      Yeah, any fire Emblem, especially with engage, can be extremely infuriating with pair up, reinforcements, chain attacks, etc and can make a fun experience turn sour which is why I always do my first run experience in the easiest difficulty on casual mode. But even with enough playtime and confidence, the harder modes can sometimes still be brutal, again, especially with engage.
      Sorry that you have such negative feelings towards that game but I’m glad you at least enjoy three houses for what it has to offer! 😅

      @heathersmith4042 Год назад +1

      I think 2 and 3 were nice problems that significantly increased the difficulty which is something people have been asking for for a while. Now I can no longer just chuck Louis into a mob of enemies without using any thought at all, who is so absurd that you can just use him normally through the game and he could destroy virtually any mob you could encounter. The game is designed around chain attack existing, both for you and for enemies, and I promise if you take it into account before moving, and are just more conservative with how you advance, it clicks. Hell, my Maddening runs, some maps were even a little *easier* because of exactly that, and I didn't even need to give Louis Pair Up. Not accounting for chain attacks probably contributed to how you found it so difficult to not clear a map without sacrificing units.
      Reinforcements I do agree with. By the end of the game it's obscene. I've seen people comment that it forces you to play better and advance quicker, but it certainly didn't do that for me. It forced me to move like one tile per turn or desperately cobble together a warp skip because I actually couldn't handle them on maddening. 23 had INFINITE reinforcements with FREEZE staffs. I think at some point Zephia just got fucking bored and flew over to me and that was the only reason I was able to end the map. That may reward very high level-players but it just blatantly punishes anyone who can't play at that level, and the skill needed to play that well is high enough that most people won't hit it. There are challenge runs and mods for anyone who wants that level of difficulty, the base game doesn't need it.

      @zsoltpallanki7954 Год назад

      @@heathersmith4042 My problem with the chain mechanic was the following:
      Originally mages are designed for dealing with tank units by simply using any spell. And if you encounter a dodge tank you simply use a spell that has very high or infinite accuracy to hit them. My favourite unites are dodge tanks. It's mesmerising to see one of my units just dodging all of the enemy attacks and dealing crit damage back. That's why Petra was one of my favourite units in Three Houses (the only one better than her is Marianne. She is the definicion of character development.). Her record was killing 4 war masters in the enemy turn without taking any damage. And my first unit that achieved 100% crit ratio. I simply wanted a unit in this game as well that's just like her. That would have been Kagetsu. But I can't even send him to deal with enemies that use tomhawks. It's no longer a fair 1v1 it's 1v many.
