Beer ,shrimp raw!!! Sugar ,,,,,works the best with these traps I have 16 of them across my 32 acre property
Catch hundreds every summer , also I drill out the hole so it's bigger to accompany the 3 inch hornets I get big boys highly aggressive

When you place the funnel in, turn it 90 degrees and those tabs on the back will hold it in.

You actually could have done with a glass jar with a hole in the lid they would fit through and an inch or so of some (syrup based, sugar containing) lemonade inside, as that is what attracts them. The smell of it attracts them, and just like most other insects they won't be able to find the way back out once they are inside. The only thing one needs to do is replace the liquid inside with a fresh amount once there are too many wasps or hornets that drowned in what you had your jar already.

People commonly make this mistake-wasp and hornets are pollinators! Adult wasps/hornets have a tiny waist and therefore cannot eat solids. They catch flies etc and feed to the larvae within the nest, they in return ‘regurgitate’ a liquid for the adult wasp/hornet to eat. At the start/end of the season when there is not enough larvae to feed the adults the live off flower nectar. Therefore they travel plant to plant to gather this and this is how they pollinate along the way. Also when the nest does have a large supply of larvae present who are producing the wasp/hornet ‘liquid food’ some of the adult worker wasps/hornets are still seen going to flowers for a bit of nectar-I guess it’s their version of having an afternoon off and heading to the bar for a sneaky 🍺 🍸 . I too used to believe wasps and hornets were on the planet by the devil himself just to cause pain and chaos. I now don’t hate them so much since understanding their lives a little more. I do however have a growing hatred for hornets again this year as they have killed 6 hives of my bees this summer

@@kleineroteHex Same issue. I had a real problem this season with the bald faced hornets chasing away the hummingbirds. Next season I will be prepared for them. I'm going to set the traps out early in year and hopefully kill their queens so that they can't even get their nests started.

Apparently, when you mix in a part of vinegar or apple cider vinegar you will prevent bees from becoming trapped and killed. Maybe something to consider?
